Did anyone else lose some text messages when updating? I just noticed this and it's a major bummer! I had some texts from my girlfriend that I would've liked to still have. Of course now my phone has backed itself up with the new firmware and I can't restore to an older backup. Super lame!

Hmmm.... I have an iPhone 3G that I just updated to 2.2. While I see the other changes such as the Safari Update, podcasts, I can't figure out how to turn on Google Street view on maps? I would assume it is obvious right? On the options screen I just see Map, Satellite, Hybrid and List.

It is about the perfect time as it spreads out the load on the servers.An odd time for an update... end of the week, middle of the night.
I'm working nights at the moment so no update yet. Excited though as I'm in Las Vegas next week and might actually use some of the new features. Also the initial reports seem to indicate a lot of problems solved along with the new features.

Okay, Mr Newbie. When you downloaded QuickPwn or whatever, you SHOULD have read the notice that if you update to 2.2 when it came out, it would break your jailbreak.
AND that it would take a while before the Dev Team crack it again.

I'm loving this!! I'm an Aussie, and usually updates come out in the dead of night for us (Time zones, etc.)
It's currently 7.48pm Friday. PERFECT TIMING for us, for a change!!
The Stevenotes are usually at around 2 or 3am in the morning!!
I'm loving this!!! Being able to watch all the fans... And all the downloads...
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!! Apple rocks for giving the update out at a GMT +10 hours friendly time!!

For Touch Owners:
Apple doesn't just charge you for updates because it wants to, it also is REQUIRED to by law. Also, you shouldn't expect to keep getting these updates for free. It takes time and money to develop these features, and they are something that Apple has the right to put out on the market and charge for. Some people will not want or need them. Others will be willing to pay $10. If you're that pissed off about it, then sell your Touch to someone on craigslist and invest in a frickin iPhone. I have one and it's great! Infact, it's AMAZING! I will never go back to anything else, as anything else is inferior.

Am I missing something? Where can I find the settings for the Text App?
Under General - Passcode Lock - you have the option to show or hide the SMS preview. Is that what you mean?

Podcast feature APP STORE ONLY
Okay, the new podcast feature is great, but it isn't the full thing. The big problem is it only downloads episodes available in the iTunes Store, which is a problem as some of my podcasts are not from the iTunes Store and I can't control whether the authors publish them there or not.
The other issue is it seems to only download on demand? I've only been playing with it for a few minutes but I don't think they will auto-download while you're sleeping or anything like that.
Still, cool firmware update! Maybe now MMS, copy/paste and landscape txt and e-mail will be high up on the list.

Thanks. Yeah I guess so I've never set a passcode before, so I've never got to that screen before. It's a little strange that Text App doesn't have it's own set of settings though. Ah well, no biggie......
