iPhone 2.2 is out...

I've still had it crash. I'm going to look out for better performance, but I'm still skeptical. This is the MOST important area for me.Safari still crashes periodically but it is not as bad as before. I think I can live with that...

You are misunderstanding the issue. Originally, when a new text message came in it would show that you had a new text message as well as who it was from in your contacts. After an update, I believe to 2.0, this was changed so that it simply said "new text message" without listing who it was from. After the 2.2 update it is now back to showing that you have a new text message and who it is from. This is and always has been with sms preview turned OFF (and the phone locked).
Safari has obviously crashed much less than 2.2. Sites like gizmodo and engadget somehow crashed the program all the time, maybe it has too many images..who knows?
However, after the 2.2 update, those sites do not cause Safari to crash anymore. On the other hand, facebook (the desktop version) on the web browser has caused Safari to crash on me today. That is the only website so far....
The web based facebook site is full of tonnes of crap. I dont expect mobile Safari to handle it and it hasnt in my case with the previous update. In fact, the web based facebook app has caused IE, Firefox, Opera, and Safari to crash on my desktop.
My appstore app still looks the same as 2.1 on my ipod touch 2g after the update. Other updates seem to work fine....anybody else have this problem?
You're right, I did misunderstand. Sorry about that. But in 2.1 mine always showed the number of who the text was from along with "new text message," the same as it does now. If you find the option to change this, please post it. I'd like that option too.
iPod Touch owners need to pay for new features like Streetview. So, you'll need to wait for the next update that should include enough new features to really make it worth the $10. Right now, its not quite there.

If it hasn't been said already.... I think it's pretty funny that Apple's release date for 2.2 coincided with the release of Blackberry Storm.

Kind of hard for me to have an objective opinion about the Storm but from what I've read so far it's doesn't live up to the hype they spent so much money on building
I hear the resulted product was pretty much slapping a touch screen on an OS that was never built for it.
Kind of like slapping a touch screen on an LCD running windows/vista then trying to navigate around with out a mouse.

Anyone notice the progress bar on the iPhone itself? I don't think that was there before... or was it?

Yes I have seen it before when I update or restore the phone. Ever since the phone came out!!

I didn't see this posted anywhere on the previous pages, but forgive me if I missed it. When updating applications ON the iPhone, they are updated in place rather than on the last screen and then moved to the original location.
While not copy and paste, it's a nice touch nevertheless.

Yes, one review i read gave it very average marks. And they didn't like
the click screen/said it took too much effort.

No. This update used it. Last update i remember seeing this was in the 1 series.
I wonder how much Google is paying Apple to have that search bar visible at all times with the word "Google" in it...
Probably not much as you have the option in Safari settings to change it to Yahoo.
Does anyone here have a problem deleting e-mail on the phone? I have an AOL and a MobileMe but only the MobileMe will let me delete. It wont let me delete AOL messages! I tried to delete the account and then tried to create it again and it didn't work. Any ideas?
I just tested mine and it still vibrates when the tag is complete.
Since 2.2 my voicemail no longer sounds like darth vader!
Bug in iPhone2.2?
Does anybody else have the same problem. Just installed update 2.2 and it seems like the auto brightness has a horrible bug. When you unlock the iPhone in a relatively dark room, the backlight comes on, but when you swipe the unlocking slider, the backlight switches off completely?? Resrarted the iPhone and problem still there?
