NO MORE AUTO SPELL CHECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! about god damn time!! damn apple and their arrogance. and no problems off the bat. it was well worth the wait.

No bring on speak to text and voice dailing. and we are SET for this phone IMO.

Oh they are so arrogant. Clearly implementing an auto-correct feature exudes superiority on Apple's part. You might clean up your language as well and STOP YELLING!

Yep. Nice little hidden feature. Apparently selecting the dots also works the same way.

That feature has been there for a while now. I use it only when rearranging my homescreen...

And to the guy upthread, you could only delete video podcasts from the phone, now you can delete video/audio podcasts directly from the device, instead of deleting from itunes and syncing.

Huh? Could tell us what appication that you referred to? Official? Cracked? Jailbroken? I have not encountered this problem after updating to 2.2. Overall performance has improved significantly

I'm not jailbroken, and every app I had.

Facebook, AIM, Shazam, ect.
All official apps from the store

Is that really what you think about them or is 'arrogant' just a meaningless, unsubstantiated word used by Apple haters?

Settings-->Wallpaper

Underneath the preset wallpapers will be your own photos. Click on the camera roll you want to use, then the photo, then you can resize it by panning and pinch/reverse-pinch.

I can set my own wallpaper, what I was looking for was how to take an album cover from my iTunes and make that a wallpaper. Seems like that is what others had done.

Apparently when you use passcode lock things changed a bit differently.
Before I was just getting 'new text message' now I'm also getting the name who sent it. Kind of kills the idea of privacy now.

Stop trying to hide ;) you'll get caught! [/joke]

Emoji - only when using a softbank sim? Balls.

Unmentioned Additional iPhone Firmware 2.2 Feature

You forgot that the ability to download podcasts via the 3G network. The catch is that you can't download any podcast over 10mb without wifi!!!

First time poster. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest. I'm not going to get into the ongoing lack of elementary features that I thought would soon follow my 3G iPhone purchase in July, that goes without saying, but this update seems a bit of a damp squib. My phone was previously on 2.1 and jailbroken as I can't live without the functionality of Intelliscreen and itextuploader, along with being able to change the SMS, email tones etc, but decided to upgrade to 2.2 from Apple and jailbreak once I'd checked it was ok. So in 24hrs this is what I've found

1) My email, previously problem free, now crashes every time I access it and doesn't alert me when one arrives (though the number on the app icon increases)

2) No sign of the "increased performance and snappiness" that others have reported, though this wasn't a total surprise as there seem to be some who report this every time. It still feels like apps are being loaded from a floppy, with calender, contacts and SMS taking 4-5 seconds to actually display their contents

3) The GPS doesn't seem any more accurate as one person mentioned, it still puts me about 2-300 yds from where I actually am unless I stand still for more than 10 minutes

4) I haven't used Safari that much since updating yesterday and it has only crashed once so I'll reserve judgement on it's increased stability for now

5) Battery life is unchanged (yes I know it wasn't supposed to be but a couple of people claimed theirs was!)

All in all, I wish I hadn't "upgraded" now. I've tried restoring twice with no improvement and I now don't know whether to go ahead and jailbreak hoping that cures the email issue (unlikely I know) or try and restore 2.1 and rejailbreak that ipsw (is that even possible?)

The iphone experience is starting to wear a bit thin for me, having to hack things around just to get 3/4 of the functionality of my last phone was just about bearable in exchange for the good points, but this is really annoying. Any suggestions gratefully received.

HTML mail

I am seeing a huge problem instead of improvement in HTML email formatting. HTML mail that used to look fine (ones I created and others including MBUSA.com) are having alignment of table cell problems and text wrapping problems. Anyone else experience this?:

I am having the same problem. Emails I could see fine before now get cut off. Anyone hear of a fix?

I have to say, I really wish Apple would incorporate their SMS Privacy just like Intelliscreen has it...

I have Intelliscreen and Statusnotifier and that's all I need. SMS messages never pop up and I get a little alert in the statusbar.

Lovely.

No this isn't my theme. Was just too lazy to take the proper pic. :)

Have gone back to 2.1 and re-jailbroken and everything is back how it was before. As 2.2 didn't have any compelling features (apart from the rather handy press to return to first home screen) I'll miss it out and go for 2.3 when it arrives, if that brings some goodies, while keeping an eye on the progress of Android and WM7

Oh. You should be able to import any image you want into iPhoto. Then sync you phone with that picture in your iPhoto like any other photo you would want to place on your iPhone. Then, make a wallpaper out of it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the most direct way of doing it without a jailbroken phone.

Agreed. It's simple little tweaks and settings like this that I miss from my Treo. Overall the iPhone works smoother, but it is seriously lacking in terms of ability to customize things like this.
