So if i were to update my iphone when i bought it where do i go for updates?

You plug it into a computer that has iTunes on it. iTunes will automatically open and it will prompt you whenever there are updates to the firmware. As for apps, you can update them via iTunes or update them directly using your phone's App Store app.

I'm pretty sure this didn't happen in 2.1, but if you drop out of phone network coverage, "Searching..." displays for a short while in the top left instead of the default "No Service".

I don't recall seeing that before, but can anyone else confirm?

Yes, the 'Searching...' was there before.

Can confirm the top quote. Marky Mark is wrong to an extent. Yes before 2.2 it would display "Searching..." but there is a subtle difference. 2.1 and before when you dropped out of service the iPhone would just say "No Service" straight away. With 2.2 it says "Searching..." before it says "No Service".

It is a change. A small one but a change in 2.2 nonetheless.

Guys, in 2.1, was there an Applications tab in the iPhone summary? Not on the left side bar, but the tabs on the top. I for some reason can't remember if that was there or not.

Update all button now available in App Store:eek:

I dont know if anyone posted this already but I found out a little trick with video podcast. I just recently started using video podcast but it made me mad how when i would hit menu it would stop playing the audio (i dont really watch, all i want is the audio) so i figured out if you press the play button on the headphones it will play the audio like a normal song so then you can play around on the internet while listening to just the audio of the video podcast. hope this helps. God bless:)

In iTunes? Yea there was a tab on top (with video audio etc) to pick which apps to sync or all.

Is this new? I've never seen this in any other Firmware version. This is a first for me.

iPod upgrade

In the past I could not watch video podcasts from the Podcasts page of the iPod application, I would just get the audio. I had to go to the Video page to see them. Now I can watch them from the Podcasts page.

I have never seen that! Could it be because if Cydia?

I don't think it's Cydia. Cydia wouldn't pop up a warning unless I was running Cydia. Cydia does not run in the background and I don't believe it has the ability to turn the springboard gray like that. This is definitely new to 2.2. I think it's to solve the ALOD bug (Apple Logo of Death) when an App install crashes the springboard.

Oh, the grey background isn't intentional? I thought it was, it looks pretty good if you ask me.
Your probably right.

That's definitely a part of winterboard and summerboard.

my contacts icon is gone... is this 2.2 or a bug?

previously jailbroken with the icon hidden. but I had other icons hidden which have since reappeared. I really don't care, but i haven't seen this mentioned..

Edit: I guess it's just me. i see TheSpaz's screenshot with the contacts icon in it. i guess i lucked out? :p Now if only i could get rid of my itunes icon.. (i don't want to jailbreak again)

Saving Images Online?

I just realized that you could press and hold on an image that you see online and then you have the option of saving it. I know in 2.1 you could do this with attachments in emails.

When did this feature get added?

2.0

Hey, I just noticed you can have more than one home screen and swiping scrolls through them! Cool! Just kidding.

dunno if this is new or not, but in the thousands of texts I've sent it hasn't happened before...

if you press the space bar and a vowel in quick succession, you'll get a little popup of different accents for that letter.
