I may sell my ipod touch and get an iphone though.

I was just speculating on the prices as well. It is cheaper to buy an iPhone than a iPod touch of the same size, and the iphone has more features, including a built in camera. They will need to drop the price soon, and i am sure they are aware of this, and we will see something by change by the time the iphones are released in mid July.
Also, just like any cell phone, you dont need to have it on a plan to work, you just cannot access features like internet and phone out. You could still use the mp3 player, games, calender etc on the iphone without a plan. Hell, thats what im going to do, ESPECIALLY if they dont drop the price on the ipod touches.
Doesn't seem like it:Can you expand on this? Would I theoretically be able to walk into an Apple store, and buy a 3G iPhone without a plan?
I think the potential for the ipod touch has been played down significantly.
However, the potential is infinite.
It doesn't seem like the future has room for the cellphone industry nor their horrid contracts, bills, hassles, etc.
All people need to do is be connected to the web. If I'm connected to the web and YOU are connected to it, we are connected to each other.
Think about it....
ichat....
skype....
AIM.....
These services offer voice chat, messaging, and even video chat. This can all be done without the use of nasty cellphone companies.
So, give the ipod touch a chance, SJ!!! The potential is limitless. We NEED the ipod touch. We don't need the pains and hassle of having a cellphone and paying 80 bucks a month. SJ, PLEASE, PLEASE, reduce the price and get us all on the web were we want to be.
The ipod touch can circumvent these hassles, while giving us room for our music!
VIVA LA IPOD TOUCH!!!
The touch has to come down in price. It is unrealistic to think it can be sold at the current prices.
I honestly don't think that they would mind too much if the iPhone had that much success. They have always given the iPhone more emphasis than the iPod, so I don't think that having iPod users upgrade to iPhones would be a huge problem for them.
They're not losing money on the iPhone. It's a subsidy, which difference will be paid to Apple by the cell carrier. Just like every other phone on the market...I think they might just be doing what most video game companies do
lose mony on the console (in this case the iphone) and make it back on periferals and games (music, apps, accseories, etc.) also if people like the iphone they will be more likely to buy other apple products such as the highly profitable mac book and mac book pro
I agree, it seems like they might be clearing out to make room for something.it seems that this (Touch vs iPhone price) is something that will be around for a bit. with the current educational promition it seems that Apple is making it very easy to snag a Touch for free. Clearing out inventory perhaps?

nice observation..
i would love to see
8 GB = $149
16 GB = $249
32 GB = $349
And this is exactly why I doubt that there will be any price drops. Capacity upgrades, maybe. But price changes, no way. Especially with the American dollar in the toilet.Wouldn't iPod Nano have to drop significantly as well then? I'm guessing $75 for the 4GB, $100 for the 8GB.
It hasn't been over for that long... Give them some time. $199 maximum worldwide has a meaning, you know?
I listened to the audio stream (so I can't pull it up again), but he specifically said that $199 was the maximum pricing point. That may be regarding local currencies (199), but I'm just using the information that was made available.I'm sorry, but do you really think that apple would give something. As even if it was a low price cut? Apple it's one of the best brands but, they are also one of the most expensive ones. That price wasn't announced world wide, and it was only for the United States. So I don't really know what's the point on talking about enormous price cuts.
