Wondering if we'll see a price drop soon. I mean I know it's been rumored but after the WWDC announcements, somethings gotta give you'd think.
See, here's where people are getting confused. The iPhone is selling for $199 ONLY with AT&T's 2-year contract and force-activation. Pretty much, it's a subsidy and the iPhone costs the same without the subsidy: $100 more than the iPod touch to capacity.
iPod touch is a one time fee. iPhone is a phone therefore it has bills for every month of it's 2 year contract. Listen, guys, there may be a $199 price tag on the new 3G iPhone but the only reason it is has that price tag is because AT&T and Apple want you to buy it and get you reeled in to it's hook.. hook line and sinker.
here is the only problem for this.
iPod touch users already have cell phones, so they are still paying more.
its like having a phone bill, then adding another $500 on that (32 gb)
I believe that iPod sales are going to go waaaaaaaaaaaay down. The iPhone is going to be the hottest selling Apple product ever. This December, just watch, all of the AT&T stores are going to be sold out, and won't be getting anymore until 2009.
True. Why is this so hard to understand, for some. The only way, IMO, to compare Iphone 3G and Touch prices is to calculate how much it would cost to own the Iphone 3G outright without following through with the 2 year subscription. From what I have read in various places, the only way to do this would be to buy the Iphone, pay the first month phone contract charges, then cancel within 30 days. This would cost $199 (8GB cost), + $70.00* (1st month) + $175.00** (Cancellation Fee), which gives a total of approximately $444.00 for an 8GB Iphone, versus $299 for an 8GB Touch.
*Approximate Charges
** Not sure how accurate $175 amount is.

The ipod touch 8gb=300
The iphone 3g 8gb=600
Apple doesn't care how much your non-iPhone phone bill is. They are in the business of selling their products AND making money. Apple wants you to ditch your current phone and buy an iPhone instead, hence the (subsidized by AT&T) price drop. If you're not willing to switch, they want you to buy a touch, but they're not going to lose money on it just so you'll buy one, especially since they are making WAY more than $199/$299 per iPhone. If you still don't get it, I suggest you read this and this.
The Touch is not a one-time fee. $20 for iphone apps. Another $10 for the ability to buy more apps and a scientific calc I won't use. 99 cents additional for every song you have on it, or at least that's what they are worth.
No, an iPod Touch is not a one-time fee.
