Completely Agree.

I like my iPhone but unfortunately it does remind me of a PC and it is getting worst with every new upgrade. It has to be re-booted once every 2 weeks or so.

One annoying thing you forgot to mention is when the cell phone stops working. You don't realize that until either you try to make a call or somebody tells you "I just called you and you did not answer your phone". For some reason, everything works (with its laggyness) except the phone. The phone will indicate a crapy signal, even though you know that it is in a good area. Reboot, and voila, full strength, missed calls messages will magically pop-up, etc. There is no BSOD, but certainly the characteristics remind me of a certain product.

Lets hope the Pre will push Apple to improve the iPhone because I agree, there is no competition.

BTW, even if the Pre has not been launched yet, at this point calling it Vaporware is just naive. I am not saying it will succeed or not, or kill the iPhone. But it is a real product.

To be fair, if responsiveness is a determining item in the crap-factor of a phone's OS then the iPhone's OS gets closer to crap with each update.
Especially lately. My iPhone has been VERY laggy lately. Even AFTER soft resetting & hard resetting.

SOME of the problems I've experienced:
- Calendar & SMS have been often laggy.
- Haven't had a day in the past year & a half when the keyboard wasn't lagging during at least half of it's use.
- Screen unresponsive/3+second lag at passcode screen
- Safari, notes, app-store, crash after being unresponsive (daily occurrence)
- If the wifi radio has trouble connecting, the whole phone lags/hangs.
- Often unresponsive sleep-button (at which point frustration sets in and pressing it multiple times seems to 'buffer' the button-presses. This in tern causes the phone to quickly flash between 'slide screen' & sleep-mode after it 'catches up'. (When I'm not frustrated with it, this can kinda be interesting...to put it down and watch it act almost like a strobe-light while sitting there on the desk.)
- The most annoying one? At least twice in the past year the phone crashed DURING a call. The call will suddenly go silent, and then I look at the screen and it's rebooting with the Apple logo displayed like it's saying "I'm :apple:. I crash. Tee hee! Stop paying attention to your call and pay attention to ME!".

I'm just saying, when it occasionally works I love it, but saying other phone OS's are crappy isn't saying much when our OS is getting a bit bloated. :-\
If this is the 'Jesus-Phone' then mine is in a constant state of crucifixion & faux/semi resurrection.

(NOTE: Never jail-broken, never hacked, Just 100% pure apple OS.)

They need a 30 second skip for podcasts and an 8 second backward button like Tivo on all iPods.

I often want to skip past stuff in podcasts.

I noticed at the top in those pics....is it just me or does it say vodaphone and 3? (2 other carriers)

EDIT: And I am so looking forward to the new iphone OS... I wonder what other new features will pop up?

Why don't I experience any of those problems with my phone?

Yeah me neither. Sometimes I think it's the apps people install, because I can' think of any other difference between mine and their phones. I do get the keyboard lag once in a while but I've certainly never seen it drop a call and restart the phone the way this person is describing. Also, I think people don't restart their phones often/ever--just like computers, it needs to be restarted once in a while--something many people don't think about. Now if we were talking about 3.0 beta 1--theeeen I'd say I saw a lot of these such problems..

faster podcasts = awesome

Can't wait...now I won't have to run my Automator/Doug's iTunes script to convert my podcasts to Audiobooks anymore. Two thumbs up! :)

Ever since I got my iphone in october, Iv'e never had to reboot it once....it might be because iv'e only used up 1/4 of my memory on it though.

I can't wait for this update.

I think the 3.0 software will be just as good as 2.0

battery

So how do you activate the battery % indicator. I have the new beta and i do not see a way to get the % instead of the standard.

Huh i'm still on 1.1.4

Cant upgrade because i would loose my guarantee :(

i'm satisfied though, no issues that i would notice:eek:

The expanded data recognition is nice - that's one of the things that I've often felt a need for on my Touch.

Being able to move a phone number from a note straight into the phone book would be so nice.

Like someone said earlier, it seems like this release is really polishing up the feature set to a point where it's mature and fixed all those little niggles.

Lovely.

Battery Percentage Indicator

Mine doesn't have this either :(

Can anybody tell me how to access the new settings, like battery percentage? I have the latest beta but can't find it anywhere...

- Battery percentage indicators. Allows users to view their remaining battery life as a percentage rather than just as an icon.

I also cannot find this anywhere.

- Push notifications preferences. Allows users to toggle whether they want to allow push notifications as sounds, alerts, and/or badges.

Likewise with this. Any suggestions or are people Photoshopping again? I think they have the battery % thing wrong. I believe that is left over from someone's phone who updated a jailbreaked iPhone.

am i blind or am i not reading this right...

I do not think this is real. They might want to edit the first page.

Anyone has the store option in settings??

Ok I have been lazy to search the forums but I just noticed this option shown below.. Am I missing something?? Anyone know what it stands for??

I did!

why would anybody negatively rate this, all of those are all nice new features and tweaks.

Why did I rate this story negative?
Because the bloody iPhone is the nail in the coffin of my beloved Mac experience.
Because of the iPhone Apple Inc. was born and Apple COMPUTER Inc. was brought to the grave.
And the main reason is, because the iPhone crowd, that gathered here over the years, has made this place a very hostile and fanboyish environment. See the quoted messages below to know what I mean.

what, lol your pocket pc can sync to itunes and download podcasts? that's cool

And there are still people comparing the iPhone with the rest...even without any hardware updates, Apple is so much above its competitors that it's just embarassing to talk about them... GO APPLE!

And Apple's poor competition continues to be slaughtered. I mean, the iPhone already beats any other phone in practically every single way. Poor companies are just being further kicked into the hole at this point.

There's no way this monopoly phone will ever descend from its eternal throne GO APPLE! Best phone ever, just keeps getting better, and Blackberries and other (now) junk just keep getting OWNED.

You mean "trying to save Palm"? Because they were pretty close to bankruptcy before this vaporphone came (came?) out. The Pre is a living joke, just as the Zune...all of them deemed Apple "killers", by the way.
