iPhone 3.0 Beta Galleries Illustrate New Features

I wanted to post about the article, but looking at the level of the discussion, I won't bother....

Ok, now I'm just getting frustrated that my question keeps getting ignored. Maybe it's because no one knows, but ----

Will the Nike+ sensor be included in the new iphone?

Bueller?....Bueller?

Hi Joe,

I'm quite interested in this as well. But as far as I know, it is not a software add-on with the 3.0

I read some where that the nike+ chip uses the FM frequency and not bluetooth to the iPod Touch. I think the iPhone has this chip as well.

So it is my understanding that it is a Nike Corporation limitation and not Apple's.

Swagi- you rate the thread off the posted info. No one posting really has any news past that it's mainly people just excited for the new OS. To learn more about the iphone OS 3.0 try appleinsider who posted the info or search for different threads on this topic. And no I don't think the iPhone pwns all other phones. But apple makes good products and it's tough to fight against the versatility of this device as a handheld computer video game handheld PDA and phone all in one with the apple commnity support.

First of all I could have also voted negative, as I think this is no news at all. Most of the features in 3.0 should've been in version 1.0 if you really think about it.

Second, and that was my main point, I view not only the title story but the entire thread. If you argue that way, there is basically no title story on MR that deserves a negative rating at all. Thanks for the reference to AI, been there, done that.

Spymac in it's great days (that were extremely short btw) hat a nice feature: They had a Mac-related news tracker on all Mac-related websites and consolidated the news.

With the death of Spymac as it was, MR became my first place, as here also Arn made a very good job at consolidating news. In the pre-iPhone-phase there were also some very informed posters, that really contributed to the story by posting new screenshots or mentioning new other stuff.

iPhone related stories OTOH so quickly become a "All hail to the Jesus-Phone"-Threads, that it's just purely annoying - and therefore negative. And really, come on, you have scrubbing on audio tracks and finally a blank page cached when you close Safari. Now if that isn't revolutionary progress. /irony

What a stupid point. The fact these new features are being added is a good thing, end of. I could say that about ANY update to ANYTHING and vote negative.

It's good that the features are being added, yes. :D

But it's bad that it's taken soo long. Just think about it. For example: could Apple have implemented Copy & Paste earlier; YES! Notes sync? MMS (not that I use it)?, A2DP (also not that I use it)? Bluetooth/USB Tethering? You get the picture.

:apple: just wants something new to have at their next release...

The one thing I'm still waiting for is OBEX file transfers (to any phone/computer).

This thread is weird, no one's being constructive.

All those feature are awesome in my opinion. All little things that make everything so much easier.

To the people saying these feature should have been implemented from the start: Implementing new functions that don't terribly slow down the device, eat up the battery and fit in design-wise is not that easy to do and required lots of work. You can't just make the prefect product, work on it for 5+ years and release it only when every feature is perfect.

The thing about the iPhone is that it's actually usable unlike some of the other big phones out there. I'm sure you heard form people "I'm still learning my blackberry".

Copy and paste is very well done in 3.0 (at least what I saw on the keynote) and not cluttering up the interface with an extra button. Considering Apple hasn't been selling phhones 2 years ago, the development is remarkable.

Why did I rate this story negative?
Because the bloody iPhone is the nail in the coffin of my beloved Mac experience.
Because of the iPhone Apple Inc. was born and Apple COMPUTER Inc. was brought to the grave.
And the main reason is, because the iPhone crowd, that gathered here over the years, has made this place a very hostile and fanboyish environment. See the quoted messages below to know what I mean.

Man, I don't even have an iPhone for starters (my stupid carrier doesn't offer it)...

And please chill out, because my fanboyism goes (and will continue to go) ways before the Macintosh, with my first Apple //e clone in the eighties...but yeah, the iPhone is also awesome. All my friends are absolutely happy with it.

Percentage icon already activated on 2G beta FW

Would you rather have waited two years for the iPhone or have it the way it is now? You cannot have it both ways and I'm guessing most would choose the latter. I agree that this isn't big news but it's news regardless. I don't really think it's worthy of six pages of comments so far but maybe there are some that wished for data detectors more than video on the new iPhone.

Ok first off, if i want to be dominating i could be. I am pearly telling you that people do this. I was the blunt on many jokes all my life and still am, the difference between when i was younger and now is that i learned to deal with it i grew a thicker skin. I mean really. And you talk about not saying things to someone's face. As i recall i said that in the very first post. If you don't like it don't read it or respond to it. All you are doing is making people think that the internet and specifically this site is a bad place for information. I understand what you are saying but you really need to either lighten up or become a "thicker person".

No need to be rude. I wasn't referring to you. I simply made a statement regarding the internet in general. There is no need to take it personally, after all, you should have a "thicker skin", right? ;)

Surpirsed???

And you're surprised why????? Remember this one:

"If I were running Apple, I would milk the Macintosh for all it’s worth–and get busy on the next great thing. The PC wars are over. Done. Microsoft won a long time ago.”

–Steve Jobs, 1996

One thing about it, he's doing EXACTLY what he said he would.

Crossing my fingers

Yay on Data Detectors but I still desperately need to quickly Google a phone number from the Recents list. Better yet, how about auto-googling the phone number as it's ringing?

It would be a hardware upgrade, but if the Touch has it then there is seemingly no reason that the iphone could not.

What I meant about software was that there should be some lingering code referencing the nike+ sensor.

Does the new OS allow batch delete multiple podcasts?

I don't understand why the process for deleting podcasts on the iPhone is as bad as the process used to be on OS 1 for deleting emails. Why can't we get an edit button on the podcasts to delete 10 at once rather than one at a time?

Some actual Information

- Battery percentage Not default. (This has to be Jailbroken or previously jailbroken)

Push notification Unsure. I do not have it. Someone stated we had to install an app with push, but I'm fairly certain apple would not have made it like that, also MAIL is push...

Carrier Settings Not default. I do not have it. I believe it has to be modified as tethering and mms.

MMS Not WORKING by default. Some have luck by updating carrier settings and having the right setup with ATT. I have gotten it to work but it does not last (for me) past a day.

Tethering WORKS if you mod the carrier settings (easily updated threw itunes)

Bluetooth WORKS AS DID AND MORE, the stereo bluetooth works.

Spotlight Is being improved and works as they said it would. Settings you can change.

Some New APIs that i really think would violate the NDA to talk about are working well.

Anything else i should check on ?

Didn't see this mentioned before although maybe it was. Also not sure if it's just new to this beta but you can set the Home button to Camera

also when taking a picture in the bottom left if shows the icon of the last picture you took

No sorry not yet..... Hopefully Apple will see the light on this one.

Any idea if tethering works when the iPhone is sleeping (screen off)? My connection tends to die in that mode and I have to resort to putting the screen to "Never" under Auto Lock options.

Experiences?

a bit off topic, but the excitment of this stuff had me go over to the att website to again check my upgrade eligability status and the date of 12/19/2009 is now gone! I wonder if this means I would be eligable for a subsidized purchase of the new iphone this summer??

Me hopes, what about the rest of you 3G owners?

Mine says Upgrade today. And if I hit the link it takes me to all of the phones they have available.

While I appreciate your perspective, I have personally read more comments from individuals who do not generally like Apple but joined online Apple related sites/blogs due to the iPhone. In fact, I have read more comments from individuals who rudely criticize Apple and bait people into unnecessary discourse.

What I really love is when I hear a comment from someone about how retarded Apple computers are and how Macs suck...and then I notice the person has an iPhone.

Sometimes I notice comments posted on mobile devices from individuals disparaging Apple and in their signature they list owning an iPhone.

I am very pleased about the podcast navigation being improved, that bar is long enough for a 4 minute song, but it's pretty useless on a 2 hour podcast.

Still no Flash

I guess we won't have the full Internet experience yet then. Can't even view CNN, NYT, CBS even Mac centric sites that uses Flash.
