iPhone 3.0 Copy and Paste Described

During a live taping of Diggnation, Kevin Rose revealed details about the expected "Copy and Paste" functionality coming in iPhone 3.0. World of Apple reports on the event with a link to a video of the moment (warning: strong language).

According to Rose, to invoke Copy and Paste, you simply double tap on the word, and a magnifier bubble will appear with two quotes that you can drag around the selection. Once you make your selection, you can copy, paste or cut. Rose has been accurate in the past with details about upcoming Apple product revisions. As well, we have also heard that Copy and Paste will be arriving in 3.0 alongside a much improved homepage/springboard with the ability to organize in categories.

Apple will be revealing iPhone 3.0 in detail on Tuesday, March 17th at a special media event.

He said it worked like this... you would press and hold a word and a Magnifier type bubble would appear with quotes around the word. Move the quotes around what you want selected and then you can press Copy.

Also confirmed no MMS for this release.

Confirmed that there would be no background apps, but he says that what Apple has coming will wipe away any advantages that Palm has touted with its Pre handheld.

WHAT? NO PUDDING!

Now please release the new iPhone at the 24th and I'll be all over it. After just having bought a MacBook I just can't wait for teh mighty iPhone.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5G77 Safari/525.20)

I'm actually kind of disappointed... It's kind of fun listening to everyone whine about copy and paste. What will people complain about now?

copy & paste????

Who cares????? copy and paste? Whats the big deal unless the iPhone is your only means of communicating I guess.

who the freak is Kevin Rose?

They would give us Copy & Paste now, after we've gotten Clippy! Get the f... Apple! All that hard work put into Clippy and they give it to us. I think Apple is watching jailbrake developers or something. Next, they'll give us Turn by Turn, after xGPS have put so much work into it. smh. Typical Apple!

Exactly. they name drop him as if we should know him, he's the guy who with others is behind the site digg. Great accomplishment...

This is not true, he more often than not has been wrong, this should say, he has sometimes been accurate. He throws a lot of darts he is supposed to hit some...

Double tapping to select a word. It will be interesting to see how that affects zooming in Safari.

A). Kevin Rose is one of the prominent names in the Web 2.0 world. You may not have heard about him but most people that keep up on tech news have. Let's keep the name of this site in mind here (ie the second word).

B). Kevin usually has better inside information than most analysts. Lets keep the R in MR in mind here.

Yay! Half way there to making the iPhone into a decent PDA. Now just give us system wide search ability and a way to sync notes back and fourth with the desktop.

I wonder if I'll be able to copy and paste an address in my address book and then send it via text or emiail... I hope I hope I hope.

No worries, there's still plenty of whining to go around. The whiners will always whine, lol

Gah! Hopefully they'll release the software on Tuesday as a sort of way to apologize for the ridiculously late push notification system instead of just announcing it.

Kevin Rose also described an iPhone with multiple batteries and a slide out keyboard.

There's plenty - lack of MMS (currently, probably in 3.0 too), Bluetooth file transfer, tethering (again, probably in 3.0) and video recording.

I think he's smarter than to listen to that source twice. He's an apple fan and stockholder, too after all.
