"Dual battery iphone" Kevin Rose strikes again,

Copy and paste?

ZOMG! He's an iNostrodomus!

thanks for that safe bit of obviousness there kev...

Copy and paste?

thanks for that safe bit of obviousness there...
:

Seeing as we're almost 2 years into the iPhone's release, I don't think "obvious" and "copy and paste" can be used together when describing an iPhone version update. If it was obvious, it would have been there in 1.0.

And despite all the Kevin Rose hate here, he's been accurate enough to get credit here which, of course, pisses off his detractors. The other thing is that we've also heard copy/paste is coming in 3.0, so seems pretty likely overall.

Exactly. they name drop him as if we should know him, he's the guy who with others is behind the site digg. Great accomplishment...

HUGE accomplishment actually...Every news site on the web these days have "digg" buttons...including this one! Plus he started Revision3 (#1 internet TV channel), as well as Pownce (which recently got aquired) and now WeFollow.com

I love how some people complain about apple adding features! The iphone is not perfect! It can be improved, if not we wouldnt have this update. Adding copy/paste is something that should have been done a long time ago, so catching up now is a good thing. Sure, people will always complain about something, but thats how products get better. If everyone accepted every device as perfect right out of the factory why would they feel a need to send out updates?

On a side note, should we start taking bets on how long it will take for 3.0 to be jailbroken?

Any comments on his (kevin) being told the 3.0 release is supposed to remove any advantage the Palm Pré was supposed to have?

Hit and miss.

If it had been anyone else with a simple blog I doubt it would be on the front page of MacRumors.

Big time doubt that.

I disagree completely. The most asked feature not being a part of the 3.0 update? and for 1 out of the 2 years it; there was the base apps, no third party apps meant not a lot of a need for c & p.

Now with 3rd party apps over the past year, there is a much bigger need.

The point here is that you are dismissing it as "obvious" which means you are suggesting that Kevin Rose made it up or otherwise made this "obvious" prediction that requires no inside knowledge. I don't believe you actually think that, but are saying it because you don't like Kevin Rose for whatever reason.

If, however, you truly believe that, then you also believe that he made up the implementation details (double tap, bring up quotes to choose selection). And I guess that will likely prove it one way or another on Tuesday.

Agree with Arn here. When I read this, my immediate reaction was that Rose was a reliable source. He's usually much better with details than most sources (see: iPod nano, iTunes 8). I don't get why people think he's not credible.

And who cares if he's credible? This is copy-and-damn-paste! This is the single most feature everybody has asked for since the first iPhone - it's the staple lacking department people use to bitch about the iPhone. It's finally being done. Why aren't you guys happy? I am!

WTF?

How is copy/paste a feature added by a hardware revision? So people with iPhone 1 & 2 wont have copy/paste?

False dichotomy. i think he gets lots a rumors fed to him, that he is a LOUSY filter (see dual battery iphone) and that he will spout out what he hears for more attention to his sites etc.. since what does he have to lose? if he picks C & p and apple does not announce it on tues, people will still post about his rumors even after being wrong about the iphone before, pretty darn badly.

But, Tues we will see i agree with that.

I predict:

copy and paste

AND

better battery life!

I am so starting a rumor site..

Zomg!

I feel like a little kid a couple days before Christmas or my birthday or something. I can't take this anymore. I forgot what it was like to get this feeling from Apple! How am I going to react in June?! AAAHHH!!!! :apple:

WTF?

How is copy/paste a feature added by a hardware revision? So people with iPhone 1 & 2 wont have copy/paste?

It's the 3.0 software not hardware so users of the older IPhones should be able to have the function but you never really know with Apple it seems.

Let me make sure I understand this.

Copy and Paste? Check.

MMS? Nope.

Video? Nope.

Background Apps? Nope.

So where on earth is the "+more" part?

Seems like he is saying all the rumored stuff is NOT coming to the new firmware.

I mean, they surely are not going to go from 2.2 to 3.0 and only bring Copy and friggin Paste to the table?

Right?

It is only version 0.3 so you have to wait until apple "invent" video capture on a mobile device. May in a year or two you can have things like IM and the ability to send pictures to your friends non smart mobile.

If no Background Apps im going to be pissed. They promised that about a year ago.

No, they promised a notification server for apps so they would appear to the end user to be running in the background. And it wasn't a year ago, only 7ish (correct me if I'm wrong) months ago. I will agree that it is still a ridiculously long time.

If Apple will continue to deliver one basic feature at release they will hit the wall with sales. It's not the question of how often feature is used, it just has to be implemented. Steve talked about baby software on the other smartphones ant yet baby software is what he has delivered. No Copy/Paste, no A2DP, no normal bluetoth capabilities, Mail should be better, app managment and etc.,

Hope 3.0 release will prove me wrong.

stacks?

just putting the idea out there.
Whats about stacks on the iphone. Could help categorize apps?

A games stack.
A Utilities stack.
A free apps that I will only use once stack :D?

Why do people care so much about MMS? MMS sucks. I'd rather send an email or an image link in an IM (via Beejive) or post a photo to Flickr than send a MMS message.

I remember back in Canada with Roger's MMS messages cost me like $0.50 each!

I got tired of waiting so I just went ahead and JailBroke it. Amazing stuff!

-Copy and Paste (Check)
-Video Recording (Check)
-MMS (Check)
-Apps run in the Background, such as IM or Pandora (Check)
-Awesome themes and customization (Check)
-Folders to organize so that you don't have a 9 page jumble of random apps (Check)

Apple rocks for inventing the iPhone but the software development team is not taking advantage of its capabilities. The Palm Pre was very attractive until I went ahead and jailbroke it.

To anyone who says Jailbreaking doesn't count, yes it does because it is easy to do, DOES NOT SLOW THE iPhone DOWN (no matter what anyone says.. there is even video to prove it is just as fast), and it allows for almost endless possibilities.

Agree on that. I just don't get the need or want for MMS at ALL. Seriously, e-mail works. So you have to send a pic that's so important it can't wait for your friend without phone e-mail access to get home and look at it? LOL.

C&P would be OK, but the only thing I'd really like to see is a real GPS app, whether it be built in or finally an "allowable" add on app.

So from this rumor it sounds as if the 3rd gen iPhone won't be a major leap in hardware that we all expect.
