some of you are being kinda ridiculous. this is going to be a preview of 3.0, much like the sdk preview last march. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing will come out today and there will be no new hardware announcements of any kind. It's a preview for developers of 3.0 software

Last Minute(s) predictions...

-Not even a hint towards ANY new hardware coming.

-Nothing earth-shattering as far as software.

...happily keeping expectations low. :D

Suprise the hell outta me Apple. Kthanx.

I understand your frustration if they did something like this, but they are out there to make money, how would they make all the 1st gen iPhone buyers to upgrade their devices, and also dont forget that there are a lot of those devices which have been sold in grey markets and iphones now are now sold on such markets.

Personally i have 3 1st gen iphones and i replaced them all with 3G iphones. My biggest problem with the iphone is the battery.

My daughter and my wife love the simplicity of the device.

Maybe Apple would be nice enough to do it, seeming as most 1st Gen iPhone users paid considerably more $$ and were generally very vocal to friends about how awesome it is, helpign to further it's wide spread use.

Not to mention, if Apple cut them off, they would be cutting off a lot of apps from reaching that market.

even if Apple didn't release the full 3.0 iPhone OS for 1st Gen users, I could see them still updating the current OS for compatibility, and maybe even add a couple features (Copy/Paste) as a nice final update.

They say the SDK will change/be updated. How? Can't be with features, unless Apple allow access to the bluetooth stack for file transfer, as could be a feature in 3.0

Otherwise, what else could they add?

(and as I recall apple gets a financial kick back from AT&T from 1st Gen Contracts, so basically we're paying for it one way or another)

That sounds just about right. I'm still debating over if apple will release 3.0 for 1st Gen, although it doesn't concern me it would be nice of apple to release it for 1st Gen. Hopefully some nice features are added today. When is the event? Or has it already finished?

I don't mean to kick your expectations while they're low on the ground  but it is what it is.

This is what will happen:

  • a bunch of bullet points on what you can expect with 3.0 along with a few screen shots
  • a release date or time frame for release (subject to change) for 3.0 ... Show ends.. go home everyone.
  • This will all be followed by a hundred threads on why 3.0 is a big disappointment. (And that's only because Apple hasn't revealed all yet)
  • There will be no tablet announcements, no release of anything.
  • Jim Cramer will see the stock dive (as planned) and will buy many shares low.

Wow, some of you people are really narrow minded.

If *YOU* don't like a feature, then no one else wants/needs it? Come on, is that really how you think? Are you that selfish?

First, I can tell you multiple times I've lost out due to not having MMS. Usually at the worst times, like a girl sends me a picture to entice me just a little. Great ... didn't get it. Didn't even know it was sent. I'm now the jackass who ignored her and made her self-conscious of her body. Rock on!

Second, I don't necessarily want to send an email. Not everyone is tech saavy, not everyone has email ready phones and setting up email on phones is beyond some people. Heck, some people lived through the life of the VCR and never figured out how to set the clock!

Third, it's quite obnoxious to tell people to text message me at my email address. I get a blank stare like I've lost my mind.

Just because *YOU* don't like it, doesn't mean there isn't a use for it. Like it impacts your life somehow. It's akin to complaining about a new superhighway development in Richmond, Virginia ... when you live in San Diego, California.

THANK you!!

You knew the iphone didn't have MMS. If you NEED that feature, why did u buy it?

I never understood why people buy a product THEN EXPECT the company to update or upgrade it so it has the feature they want.

Have u ever buy ANY electronic good then expect the merchant or manufacture to UPGRADE/UPDATE it later for free??? Seriously.

It's a free country. As a consumer your $$ cast votes. Buy a product that serve your need.

Hmmm, maybe because everything else the phone does made me want to buy it over any other phone, just because it's missing one thing doesn't mean I shouldn't buy it.

Seriously, the Apple snobs around here just enforce all the stereotypes about Apple users more and more. Like someone else said, if MMS is stupid because you can just email, then hell, why even text message if you can email that too.

I hate to break it to you guys, but there's a world outsite your little bubble, and outside that world, very few people actually setup email on their phones, and MANY people like to send pictures with MMS, and I don't want to wait for somebody to go home and check their email on their computer to see the picture I sent them. I want to be able to send a picture to 99% of cell phone users, for them to be instantly notified about the picture, and to have an immediate response from them.

There's no reason to defend Apple for leaving out something that even the cheapest of phones does. Like I said earlier, I bought the phone because I loved everything about it except a couple things like MMS, but now it's been two years. It's a very simple addition to the software, and it would instantly make a lot of people happy and a lot of people reconsider getting an iphone.

It's not the end of the world for you, go right on ahead in your little bubble and use email instead of MMS with all your other technical savy friends. Nothing is going to change for you while the rest of the world enjoys something that should have been there a long time ago.

Woohaa! I'm getting excited. Guys over at Engadet are starting their blog.

Would go now to some solid "mature" sites and have fun or after the Apple event???

Wow, some of you people are really narrow minded........snip............ Heck, some people lived through the life of the VCR and never figured out how to set the clock!
............

I admit I had a VCR I never set the clock on either, gave up and covered it with a black piece of black stretchy electrical tape.

let the rage begin!!!!!!
Ahh crap it started at 9:01am =P

Good presentation I gave myself realistic expectations and enjoyed what they have especially the diabetes feature.

You knew the iphone didn't have MMS. If you NEED that feature, why did u buy it?

Because the feature set and capabilities of the product surpassed those with MMS. Simple pro and con.

At this point, they can add the feature and I would prefer my iPhone to have this option than to not have the option. If only to be able to receive my friend's messages.

Besides, I don't think I ever referred to "need".

I never understood why people buy a product THEN EXPECT the company to update or upgrade it so it has the feature they want.

Have u ever buy ANY electronic good then expect the merchant or manufacture to UPGRADE/UPDATE it later for free??? Seriously.

When the iPhone was introduced, the whole concept behind it was that it would be routinely supported through software updates which would increase the feature set. I'm suprised someone with such an ability to point out other's ill-conceived purchasing notions would not remember that.

I assumed, at the time of purchase, that the MMS capability would be added at some point in the future when the bugs were ironed out.

As an aside, I never felt any software upgrade with enhanced feature sets should be done without expectation of payment. The only software updates that should be free are mandatory updates that would brick the phone if not activated.

It's a free country. As a consumer your $$ cast votes. Buy a product that serve your need.

It's not a free country. Far from it.

Why is it that the people so opposed to the feature tend to be the biggest arses on the board?

Same. Never liked MMS personally. Too expensive and unnecessary. Even more so now that email is available on phones. Why MMS somebody when I could email them for free? And they can get my email on a computer, phone or whatever. I rarely need people to check out a photo right that instant, so next time they check their email is fine for me.

wow. I would say a few million iPhone users all disagree with you and the fact that every phone on the planet can do it, makes the iphone look retarded. More so, because the majority of people out there dont just have a computer next to them and or dont own an iphone that can just check their emailed. So no, were not doing anything smart, were just locking ourselves out of 99% of the market with the way we interact with MMS which is, we dont.

I don't want to get spoiled. Where can I see the video which will be posted online? Is it there already?
