There will be a folders type system implemented for apps

so you can put your games in one, utils in another etc

Custom folders aswell for favourite apps etc

When you install a new app it will ask you if you want to designate it a folder aswell

easier to keep organised and better than flicking through 8 pages that you have to put in order only for a new installed app to cock it all up

10 points if im right

Wow. Should hold our breath? My first generation iPhone is getting long in the tooth. I think it will be a good time to upgrade as soon as the new ones come out.

Good. I've been looking for a way to organize all of my tip calculators, one touch dialers, and fart apps. ;)

You're in luck. The 3.0 software solves this problem by ONLY allowing fart-apps into the dock. This way, you'll never have to scroll though pages to find your favorite farting application.

This is actually all they've been working on since last year!

It's what they hired that high-level guy from IBM for.

What is so special about MMS? Who uses it, except the teens who do that 'sexting' where they send nude pics to each other?

can anyone top this on dumbness???

I know it's not in 3.0 but I rather hear ATT give me 5 F**ing bars with 3G everywhere with increase bandwidth/speed to accomodate everyone using smartphones.

copy/past
MMS
ability to forward text messages

Ive had copy and paste, mms & tethering on my iphone for a long time.
So this just confirms that the iphone is playing catch-up to the alternate scene (jailbreak community).

Apples restrictions and "recommendations" on how they forcefully push their view on how your phone should be used is really annoying.
Anything to brake the apple chains that are making microsofts look like shoe strings is welcomed with open arms.

Please calm down.

If I hear one more person scream about how they want copy and paste, I'm going to lose it. It's like the iPhone had the power revive the dead, people would be crying about how it can't do CPR. Are people this anal or is it just the internet?

:apple:

It's just the internet. :) People on MR are particularly hard to please, it seems.

What I'd really like to see is solid MobileMe sync of calendars that I can trust. Right now the calendaring is the most annoying feature.

My MobileMe calandar syncing is flawless. Three Macs, plus an iPhone, 2 calendar groups, and about a dozen, active calendars.

Are your settings correct?

Lets not forget ability to sync the Notes app with Mac/Pc, and addition of a To-do app also with sync capability, plus ability to get information from PIM on the lockscreen. I mean...this is so basic...do they really want to grow on the enterprise market???

Would 3.0 work on the current iPhone or would it only be available for a new iphone model or upgrade?

MMS and tethering were not included in the iPhone because of AT&T restrictions, not Apple.

Gpl

How about a Genius Phone List that analyzes your conversations and then suggests other iPhone users you don't yet know whom you would probably enjoy talking to? :D

5 Macs, 2 iphones, about the same number of active calendars and google calendar syncing with Busy Sync. Works beautifully and I rely on it as the number one feature in my consulting business nearly every hour of every day. That, and Google GPS have made the iPhone the best solution for my business.

My comments on this: I'm happy I've waited till now to look into buying an iPhone. It'll be awesome. ... and I only waited because I wanted 32gb+ of storage.

Same here. I figured I could make due with my iPod and current cell phone until they increased the hard drive size. But even besides that, I think they've made some pretty big improvements just in the past two years. And most of the features people are complaining about on here I don't think will be a big deal to me whether they are added or not. Obviously they are important to some people, but apparently not the majority of customers or the phone would not have been as popular as it is.

As someone else said, the things I am most concerned about are battery life and reception/internet speed. Those are things that can make a phone totally useless, regardless of its features.

First there is no USB port on an iPhone. Secondly, access to the hardware has not much to do with the SDK, you have to pay for a license.

Well, whatever you want to call the dock connector that plugs into a computers USB port. I know of one company that intended to offer third party hardware that used this port, but dropped their plans because they said Apple did not allow access to it in the SDK.
So, it would be nice if the new SDK adds this.

What is so special about MMS? Who uses it, except the teens who do that 'sexting' where they send nude pics to each other? What can you do with it that you can't do by taking a photo and emailing to someone?

Is it a poor man's emailing a photo? as in do most phone not have email capabilities so have to use MMS for this functionality? If not, I don't get it. If so... I guess it's a feature some people have to use because they don't have an alternative - which I sort of understand.
I'm 28 and my girlfriend is 24, I'm not allowed to receive "sexts" from her when I'm traveling for work? She doesn't have an iphone and doesn't have email on hers. It's not poor mans emailing, it's a convenience that the rest of the planet has had forever. Stop being so short sighted.

I'm currently enjoying copy & paste and tethering on my jailbroken phone... *whistling*

I wouldn't need tethering if ...

I'm a freelance sportswriter who often covers games remotely with my laptop, usually where there's no wi-fi. Tethering would be nice, but not really necessary if there were a way to get my Microsoft Word (or even plain text) file off my laptop, onto the iPhone and then mailed as an attachment from there. AirSharing can get the file off my laptop and onto my phone, but it can't e-mail it.

Anyone know of any current app that could help me?

I hope we don't have anything too funky when it comes to splitting up the apps.

Categories? Stacks? Folders will do just fine. Click a Games folder, see the games slide into view. Want to go back up, slide your finger or press the Home button. Can't be any simpler.

Call me a PITA dad, but I really want more parental control - maybe even remote administration from the master account on MobileMe. Disable games or certain apps/features if it's past curfew or if they're grounded. Call screening, whitelists, blacklists, for incoming and outgoing calls and SMS. Ability to get location, either 24-hour history, last polled or current, and show in Google Maps. Remotely snap a picture, answer a call (monitoring), or send a siren sound.

How about instant media messaging right from the in-call screen? Say you're on the phone with your wife, girlfriend, or friend. You're at the store and don't remember which brand or style of shirt to get. An additional icon will join Mute, Keypad, Speaker/Source, Add Call, Hold, and Contacts and be labeled "Send Photo." Instantly pulls up the camera and sends to the person (or persons if it's a conference) on the other end of the call, either via MMS (preferred) or email. Sure beats having to press Home, then Camera, take a picture, then click the Action icon, Send Email, look up or type the email address, click Send, then click Return to Call (whew!).

How about selective deletion of call history?

Or what about reverse phone lookup when someone calls? For 3G users, it's a no-brainer, since it can do voice and data simultaneously (take that, Verizon/Sprint!). It may take a few seconds before it can find it, but it'll be worth it. Even if it's just location and carrier, but would be nice if it would try to pull it from Google and give its best guess. Sure helps when you're looking at the call history and for those random-looking numbers you didn't add to your Contacts and name them, this would be a great help.

By the way, I sent these to the Apple iPhone Feedback page. Let's see if they'll respond or even read it.

So is this going to be the big update for this year ? And then we will have to wait for a one yr cycle to get a h/w update ? Are we still on for a June h/w release ?
