Now its taking forever to back up my phone. I don't even have that many apps...4 gigs of music.

Only if you want to have your phone locked out. There were big problems with people doing this on one of the previous updates.

Wow. Wish I would've seen those posts you were referring to -- that's exactly what happened. I'm on the phone with Apple Support now and the guy is scratching his head.

Any tips on how to remedy this?

Thx.

Hmm, so putting it in airplane mode caused a glitch to lock you out while updating?

I just put it in airplane mode moments before the update started and just as I read these posts. It was just starting the back-up, so I unlocked the phone right away to turn airplane mode off.

But the odd thing is, the back-up pop-up window on my PC still shows it's backing up with a progress bar that's slowly moving, even though I unlocked my phone and at the home screen. I guess it could still be backing up, I just should not run any apps.

Back-up now finishing. Now a bunch of update preparing screens. Hearing Vista give me beeps as if a devices is disconnecting and reconnecting. iPhone shows a screen saying to connect USB to iTunes even though it is. Few more beeps, now there's a progress bar on the iPhone screen and the PC is saying it's updating iPhone software.

Update 1: Now says updating iPhone Firmware, bar on iPhone 3 quarters through.

Update 2: Says it finished the update and the iPhone is restarting and will reappear soon. I hear it Vista beep, I get new device, iPhone shows up in iTunes, but I look at the screen and still see that 3 quarters progress bar. Suddenly I get a error in iTunes saying it could not complete store request , connection timed out, no error code (the last window it was at was the download progress section where the update was). The phone just vibrated and screen is off.

I hit the home button, I see the screen again to connect the iPhone to iTunes with USB, the lock slider says unlock for emergency in many languages.

I reconnect to PC, but when it trys to display the iPhone page, it says it's trying to access the iTunes store at the top, then eventually I get a network connection timed out request, leaving the iPhone device page simply white with the word iPhone in the middle. Maybe their server is being hit hard.

Not sure if I want to slide the emergency unlock yet.

Ok, downloaded it, don't see any difference? Plus, I cannot get the keyboard to go to sideways view??? Whats up?

Ok, no problem -- the solution was simple:

When you're at the emergency call screen, attempt a call -- it will then tell you the phone is in "Airplane Mode" and ask if you wish to disable that mode.

Once you do that, the phone can then talk to iTunes and you'll see the upgrade to 3.0 went fine.

When viewing the emergency call screen, is the airplane icon still showing in the top right corner? If so, attempt to make a call and it will tell you that you are in airplane mode and ask if you wish to disable (press disable), then your phone should be able to sync up with iTunes. At least, that's what happened for me. Good luck.

Got it!!!

So far, so good. Kinda cool. Now I can't wait for SL [ha ha!]...

But really, it's pretty cool. The only thing I had to do was re-arrange my apps. The ones I had downloaded got pushed out 2 screens. Weird...but hey, if that's all it did...big whoop....
:)

You'll have to restore the phone and you can't restore it from a back up. You'll lose all your information on the phone. sorry :(

There is NO USB tether for my ipod touch. This Sucks.
And cannot setup bluetooth PAN... :(
I got the bluetooth connected but it says its not a PAN device. This really SUCKS!!!

oh well, back to wi-fi...and watch it suck up my battery life. :(

Nope, 2.2 had street view.

2.2 had street view for iPhone users. 2.2 did NOT have street view for iPod Touch users. Thats because we (iPod Touch users) can't get big updates w/out paying. We only get bug fixes and the like for free, and have to wait for the next major release of the OS for new features.
