Apple ios5 is miles ahead of android when it comes to syncing and cloud services that's why I will buy the iPhone 4S.

Is it really? Google syn is pretty good, such as calendar, email, docs and so on, not to mention iOS doesn't even support proper multitasking, or widgets, or even a file system. The notifications are still way behind android. I have a SG2, which in my opinion is a much better phone than than my old IP4. I'm not sure the IP4S is such a big step, but I'll reserve judgement until my GF has 1 and I can try it.

Android is growing and improving at a relentless pace, the openness of the community is a big contrast to the development of the iOS. Very impressed so far.

I've already explained why that is a poor argument. It fits some people, not everyone. We don't just want a bigger screen for the sake of showing off. To make sure I typed this in landscape onehanded except for the letters q,w,a, and the .?123 button. Is that proof enough that some people can benefit from a bigger display?
Lol is the only proper response.

Here's an idea, why doesn't apple release a 3.5 and a larger screen device (maybe 4.2) and give us a choice and keep everyone happy. Rather than being arrogant and telling us what we want.

Apple does not normally take the shotgun approach to product marketing, they also don't release products that have a bad form factor just in case someone might like it. There are 20 other phone manufacturers taking exactly that approach.

I am sure if Apple can make the UI, Battery life, and pixel density work on a 4" phone they would consider building. I am sure it is something they have tested. I would doubt you will ever see a 4.5" screen on an Apple phone. It is a very awkward and uncomfortable size. Maybe if they curve it, but now we are getting weir.

----------

I must be holding my 3.7" Droid 2 incorrectly because I can not reach the far corner. I'm holding it as I normally do when texting with one hand, so the bottom corner of the phone is pretty much near the center of my hand (Think deathgrip). The only way to reach the far corner is to release the grip on the phone and let it loosely rest on my fingers and then extend to reach the far corner, ie reposition the phone.

How are you people holding your phones?

He is either confused about average or holding it in fantasy land. :)

and yet when it does, you'll jump up and down when a 4" model comes out, and say that it's the best iphone ever.

The difference between you, a troll, and me, is that I'm stating what kind of device I'd like, and you're stating what kind of device someone else will like because you think everyone other than you is stupid. Why don't you just show your true colors and call everyone an iSheep?

There's no point in trying to reason with you, but for everyone else, people like the 3.5" because they can use it easily. Apple will always provide the device that people can use easily, not one that is awkward to hold and use like larger phones. Keep down-voting my logical arguments based on Apple's proven design philosophy though, nobody gives a crap about the number.

All you people wanting 4" iPhones are in for a very long wait. If this is so critical to your enjoyment of a phone, go find a different phone and ecosystem, because Apple will never compromise on ease of use to get in some di- I mean screen measuring contest.

Let me just say that I haven't owned an iPhone and that the 4S will most likely be my first:

This whole thread, I think, is a matter of opinion. There is no way of saying which way is better/worse because there is no answer! All screen sizes offer various positives and negatives. Someone with small hands like myself wouldn't mind a 3.5 inch screen, but other with larger hands find it uncomfortable.

Watching TV shows and movies? Definitely a larger screen would benefit. But if the new screen results in a lower PPI, that's something to consider. Weight and size is another factor - My Droid X with no keyboard and a larger display weights just as much as the original Droid and Droid 2. Battery life - a larger display requires more battery power. Some might prefer more additional battery life over a larger screen.

I've owned a original Droid and then a Droid X. I can honestly say after using both sizes, both have their positives and negatives.

For me, size isn't THAT much of an issue because I own an iPad. If I need to do heavy reading, I'll just switch to that device. And I know this doesn't apply to everyone since not everyone has a tablet.

I recently gave my VziPhone 4 to my daughter who was headed out for college and looked for a replacement until the iPhone 4S/5 was released. First I set up a no-contract AT&T line and reactivated my iPhone 3G...thought about reactivating my original iPhone too, but thought it would be too slow for some of the new apps and not being iOS 4.0 compatible. Compared to the IP4, my 3G was too slow and so I looked for other options.

I tried the HTC HD7S Windows phone with 4.3" screen, interesting operating system, but the phone just seemed a little big and the resolution at that size was not as good as the IP4. Played with this for a week and returned that for a Google Nexus S. This had a 4" screen and super AMOLED display that looked awesome. Resolution still not as good as the IP4, but you couldn't tell because the display just looked good, the blacks were amazing. My current phone is the Blackberry Bold 9930, which is a great phone overall. Great touchscreen, outstanding keyboard, super fast, best BB ever. Sorry, I know this is a display size thread...

In my opinion the Nexus S 4" screen is the perfect size for a portable cellphone that provides enough size for mobile web browsing, email reading, etc. In fact, if Apple put iOS 5 into the Nexus S, it would be perfect! That being said, i have the iPhone 4S on preorder and will hopefully get it before Friday. When the 5 comes out, I hope they will have a 4" retina screen while maintaining the same overall size of the phone. My BB 9930 will be my permanent backup phone.

Just my 2 cents.

Agreed on the Nexus S screen size. It looks to be the perfect middle right now. Doesn't feel too big, but definitely is roomier than the iPhone.

I used the Samsung Focus 4" screen for a week, and I think 4" is a perfect size. 4'3" for a screen phone is my limits.

Agree, a 3.5" screen is the perfect size...........................

For Apple fanboys who agree with everything they do and if they go to a 4" screen, that will be the new perfect size...LOL

The "perfect" screen size is entirely relative to each individual person. If 3.5" is perfect for you, kudos. To claim it's "perfect" in some objective sense is absurd; and reeks of Apple fanboyism. If Apple had released it as 3.7", one might claim then that 3.7" is the "perfect" objective size.

EDIT: I see a lot of people have stated this already. Well then. : )

Another +1 for the 4" screen factor. Not much else to add.

Unfortunately of the 2 hottest phones to be coming out, one is a half inch smaller, and the other a half inch bigger.

I wonder who's going to get it right?

3.5 inches for a screen is fine. What apple need to do though is make the screen real estate more towards the edge of the device (aka, make the device slightly smaller). For me the screen doesnt cover as much of the front of the device as i would like it to. There is too much black/white besel around the screen, which ultimately makes the screen look smaller.

Thats crap and you know it.

Apple did put a bigger screen in because of battery life, nothing else. If they could keep the same form factor and the same or better battery life they would.

I don't think that they will go over 4, but it will get bigger when the battery life can remain the same or get better. I don't think they will go bigger for the sake of going bigger. When they can get the same form factor with a bigger screen it will happen. And not a minute sooner.

If you're not happy get a Android phone. Less battery life and bigger form factor and bigger screen. Win, win for you.

Not crap, and i know it.

I've seen 4" phones, where majority of the device is the screen. Agreed battery is the main constraint, but even if the phone is bigger by a bit, it will allow more space for battery. At the end, we can expect a bigger iPhone next-gen.

Lol, don't tell me what's right for myself dude. I'm buying the 4S. Bigger screen is just a preference i have.

Agree, like I said before a 4" screen is good all around, as it's not too big and not too small, and that little difference in screen size makes a huge difference when browsing online for me as the iphone will have to zoom in manually and scroll all over to read, where I don't have to do that on a larger screen really.

Not sure why so many on here say oh battery life this and that. Droids have gotten a lot better in the last year. I have an 3GS and 4 and friends various droids last every bit as long if not longer, actually on a road trip we tested a friends Evo and the 4 running just gps and the 4 consumed more battery life, so much for the larger screen draining life  .

The second Apple makes a 4" screen, all the fan boys that were bitching will hail it with their soul as the greatest thing ever LOL :D:p

I've been playing with my Sprint Galaxy S II for a few days now and I LOVE the 4.52" screen.

I have pretty average size hands and I can reach the other side of the screen with my thumb & type one handed if I shift the phone over a little bit in my hand. Web browsing and watching videos is infinitely better on this screen. I think for most 4" is probably the happy medium, but I'm loving all the extra screen real estate.

And oh man, the blacks are BLACK! I'm loving super AMOLED plus.

Whatever the general public wants at the time.

From polls and just general posts, most people do want a bigger screen - something around 3.7" to 4".

I am pretty sure most people don't come here to vote. Most of my friends use iPhones, and not one of them cares much about the screen size. They would complain if they all of a sudden had hold their phone with 2 hands all the time.

iPhone works very well with our corporate Exchange servers. I'd be interested to hear in what way BlackBerry is better at it, because calendar, mail and Active Directory address book work very well. Is there something else that BlackBerry does? Office Communicator maybe? That would be useful.

With a BES server you can tie down the policies on the BB. I'd be really interested to know what options there are from Apple to tie down iPhones in a corporate environment.

The only real control companies have with Exchange on the iPhone is requiring/enforce a pass code lock and remote wipe.

No where near as robust as what a BES server can do.

... they also don't release products that have a bad form factor just in case someone might like it. ...
I can't believe this statement was made considering the hard-edged rectangular block that is the iPhone 4(s) is the epitome of 'bad form factor'.

Its not JUST about the size of your hand, a bigger screen would also mean having to re-write EVERY app in the app store.
Not this misinformation again. Please do some research.

I can only imagine the stress on developers:
iPhone 4 brings retina display
This imaginary iPhone brings a 4 inch screen...

Developers are then all over the place, supporting the 4, iPad, a bigger screened iPhone and possibly a retina display iPad later.

Apple does not want to fracture its products, which all of you seem to want them to do.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE DEVELOPERS??!! This is a product, being sold to a consumer. Many developers have made millions off of their apps in :apple:'s app store. They should be ready to do whatever the hell apple tells them, whether that means adjusting the ratio or the resolution or anything else.

If apple didnt design a bigger screen because they "didnt want their developer community to have to redesign their products" they are the stupidest company on earth.

maan, i can't stand the big phones (thunderbolt, bionic, etc. ). BUT, maybe just a lttle big bigger would make it the "perfect screen."
