If anyone is unhappy with their phone's screen size, they can feel free to return it. Nobody is making anybody buy a 3.5" screen if they need something larger.

Just because someone wants a bigger screen size, doesn't mean they won't get the 4S in the mean time until a bigger screen comes along.

I guess you'll be buying a lot of 3.5" iPhones then. If you're going to self-inflict misery, though, it would be nice if you'd keep it to yourself at least. Most of us are quite pleased with the 3.5" screen and don't want it to change.

The only way I would settle for a bigger screen is for Apple to keep the phone practically the same size and just decrease the borders at the top of the phone now and on the sides.

I have a friend who recently bought a droid phone. Not sure which one because I didnt care enough to find out lol but the thing is about an inch wider and a bit taller than my iPhone and its too clunky. It fits fine in his shirt pocket, however it was a severe struggle to get it in my jeans pocket and thats were most of the time I carry my phone. It also didnt feel secure in my hand because my fingers didnt fit all the way around like my iphone.

So yes, I am perfectly happy with my 3.5" screen. I have an iPad for times that I might want to watch something and want a bigger screen, but my iPhone 4 fits my needs perfectly. I dont know if there has ever been a time where I felt like I needed a bigger screen and if I cant see something, the pinch or double tap to zoom works perfectly fine for me.

Apple is still advancing forward and I'm sure one day they would come out with a bigger screen, however I would rather them take their time and get it right and also spend time on components rather than just physical attributes.

and yet when it does, you'll jump up and down when a 4" model comes out, and say that it's the best iphone ever.

Who says 4" will catch on to the next Iphone model? Maybe Samsung will downsize future launches if the current model Iphone does well?

Most have to agree there has to be a line drawn between "mobile" phone and "tablet". 4" as mobile industry standard is hard fetched because you have your small screen budget phones and 2.6" blackberry screens and your average screen 3"5 vs the huge 4" plus size screens.

The thing here is taste. Surely Apple will decide.

I'll be honest if tablets were not around maybe bigger phones would be cool but as tablets drop in price people will be like why do I need a brick of a phone?

My honest opinion is I don't expect a redesign in the next model either. The next Iphone will probably have NFC, A6 processor, metal back with current design and shape, questions over will they keep a 8MP camera when there's 12MP camera phones?

Because tablets aren't the same thing as a bigger phone? If you have a hatchback and need more room in your car you don't buy a bus. You buy a bigger car. I want a bigger screen for texting and web browsing, not to play Angry Birds HD. I'm not going to carry around a small phone and a 7" tablet because
1) I'll look ridiculous,
2) Neither are the thing I want,
3) I can't afford to,
4) A tablet isn't pocketable, where as a bigger phone is.

EDIT: I may have ranted a little, sorry, I'm just really frustrated about people rehashing the "if you want a bigger phone get a tablet" argument. It's a poor point.

3.5 is too small. I don't want any of these monstrous phones other companies are announcing, but come on. 4" would be perfect.

Well the reason I want a bigger screen is because I cannot see as well as I used to. Since the font size is not adjustable in every app or instance on the iphone. THe iphone is not just a phone it is a mini browser and is marketed as such.

For those of us who want a bigger screen or at least a screen that would be bigger yet in the same form factor. I think that apple could have easily stretched this screen and shrunk the borders of wasted space on the phone. THe large black borders on the top and bottom of this phone is wasted space that is not being wasted on other android phones. extend the screen into those wasted spaces and keep the size the same would allow for a much wider screen that would allow for easier reading during surfing.

And BTW those of you who object to a larger phone in the pocket yet expect those of us who want a larger screen to carry an Ipad wherever we go that makes zero sense. You would rather carry two devises instead of one and the reason for that is you do not want a big phone in your pocket but will carry with you an ipad? a slightly larger phone that uses more if the area of the phone is the answer not a whole other device.

Which iPhone do you have and what are you comparing it to?
we have a 3GS and iPhone4. Can't remember what droid he has, was an HTC. I'm not an iPhone fanboy so I see advantages from both sides. Not sure why people are saying the new droid screens are crappy or not as good, looks every bit as good as our iphone4.... The 4 has maybe a slight slight edge. I'm all for an 4" screen on the next iPhone, no bigger though, that's the perect size. There's aot of sites I'm on that the iPhones cram info sometimes Nd you have to zoom in further then the auto zoom and scroll back and forth, and I have excellent 20/15 vision so it ain't my eyes lol. That lil extra screen space makes a huge difference. Not sure why people are comaing about battery life, with earlier droids yeh, but the newer ones friends own last every bit as long as our iPhones. 4" would be good, especially if they make the boarders smaller, as some of those droids feel huge, I think they'll be able to have a 4" screen and keep the slim profile of the iPhone.

The thing about bigger screens is this: an extra 0.5-1 inch diagonally does not change my usage of the phone. I can't do anything more with it than I can with the 3.5 inch screen. If I want a significantly different experience, I need to get something with a 7"+ screen. And this is coming from a guy that has had time with a Nexus S and a GS II.

The larger screens do increase difficulty of use with one hand though, which is annoying.

So Android phone makers said, bigger! Bigger! They always want bigger! That's how we can beat the iPhone.

Apple said, it won't make a difference. What will? How about completely revolutionizing how you interface with your phone, AGAIN? Siri, you're the real investment.

I have no problem with the current size but

I can see why Apple didn't include a bigger screen in this release. Firstly because they want to retain the RETINA factor and to do that would require a display that simply does not exist yet for a reasonable price. Secondly to introduce a screen with that resolution would most definitely have a big effect on the battery life.

I'm sure they are just waiting for the technology to catch up so that instead of just slapping some crappy 4in display on with 200 dpi they'll be able to blow everyone away with an amazing 4in Retina display that wont have any effect on battery life.

So a tablet = a phone?

My Atrix has a 4" screen and it just barely bigger than the 4. Actually I think the physical size of the 4 is a bit small. The problem with the iPhone is Apple knows that they can do next to nothing and they'll still sell millions. They showed a pic of the 4s next to the Inspire and Atrix showing that it was capable of the same data speed even though the Inspire came out in February and the Atrix came out in March. They're playing catch up right now. The 4s is a pretty weak offering for 16 months of work.

Apple ios5 is miles ahead of android when it comes to syncing and cloud services that's why I will buy the iPhone 4S.

I use my smartphone for work, mainly email, calendar, etc.
If you try to type an email on the iPhone, you will find that the area for the actual email is smaller on the iPhone than the blackberry, due to the onscreen keyboard. Part of the problem is the top label, which will not scroll up.

I have used both and am now going back to an iPhone (4S). Very interested to see how well the iPhone syncs with our Exchange server. The blackberry is undeniably better at this, but I hope that Apple has caught up by now.

Me for one. I would like it to be maybe 4" but with as little increase in the size of the phone as possible, i.e. doing something clever reducing the bezel. In the meantime, the 4S will do nicely. It's just one part of the whole phone experience that isn't my perfect choice, so big deal. It's not going to kill me or make me run off and buy a different brand. A bit of perspective seems to be lacking here sometimes.

iPhone works very well with our corporate Exchange servers. I'd be interested to hear in what way BlackBerry is better at it, because calendar, mail and Active Directory address book work very well. Is there something else that BlackBerry does? Office Communicator maybe? That would be useful.

Sounds like me. I would like a larger screen, but can "put up" with the 3.5" until something larger comes along in an iPhone in the future.

Here's an idea, why doesn't apple release a 3.5 and a larger screen device (maybe 4.2) and give us a choice and keep everyone happy. Rather than being arrogant and telling us what we want.

iPhone is marketed for its amazing photos, videos, games and mobile browser. All of these things would look better on a bigger screen, and I'm sad there is nothing to argue about that. Also, I can easily touch every corner of my screen on a Galaxy S2 single-handedly, and I think my hands are average sized.

I must be holding my 3.7" Droid 2 incorrectly because I can not reach the far corner. I'm holding it as I normally do when texting with one hand, so the bottom corner of the phone is pretty much near the center of my hand (Think deathgrip). The only way to reach the far corner is to release the grip on the phone and let it loosely rest on my fingers and then extend to reach the far corner, ie reposition the phone.

How are you people holding your phones?
