I think you people in China (not that I trust you're telling the truth) should help yourselves and fight for better rights and quit letting your government walk all over you.

it is decide by the Communist Party。。。

Just 3 questions:

1. 8 hours times 5 days is 40 hours, how can be "evey week can not work over 30 hours in total"?

2. I just checked the exchange rate of USD to CNY, 1USD=6.84 RMB. So their salary caculated in USD is less.

3. Suppose they can get 1,800 if they work overtime, after the basic slary RMB1,000. they can get 800 for overtime work. 1 hour over time price is 8, so they need work for 100 hours more per month for the extra 800, which means they need to work 25 hours more weekly. right?

1. Sorry for my typing mistake, it should be"evey week can not work over 40 hours in total", on the other hand, the goverment also claim that if factory really need overtime work for the production, one day can not over 3 hours. to tell the truth the workers hope to do overtime work, they want to get more money, because after the off duty time they have nothing to do but stay in the dorm, and if the overtime work is in the weekend payment will be 3 times to normally time. actually now the factory get ambivalent feeling for the overtime work, they need it for the production, but if one worker give a call to the goverment they must pay high penalty.

2. for the exchange rate I don't care, because all I told is RMB as you can see.

3. the salary RMB1800 is not all from overtime work, as I said besides the basic RMB1000, they have some allowance, for lodging is around RMB200-300 and for meal is around RMB100-200, even they live in the dorm and eat in the refectory, they have to pay for the eletricity and water fee and also need pay for the food.

For you reference, several years ago many many people from inner mainland come to Shenzhen to be a worker in the factory, because on that time, inner part is really poor, but now all are changed, workers are choose back home to build up their hometown, because more and more factory move to the inner part, even Foxconn will leave ShenZhen soon, becasue ShenZhen is close to HongKong, HongKong people prefer to buy a house in ShenZhen not in HongKong, becasue from ShenZhen to HongKong only took 1 hour by train, and the house price in HongKong is sixfold to ShenZhen, so the living cost is much higher in ShenZhen, and the employee turnover rate is getting higher, in Pearl River Delta Region( include ShenZhen ) thousands shoes factory go bankrupt, do you know why? because of the new labor law appeared.

Do you have any more question? pleasure to give you answer.

Thanks for your answer and I am sad to know that they even to pay for their meal and dorm with 1800.

I heard that a lot of factories are closed in Guangdong, and I can tell you this happened to Zhejiang as well. China now is facing a big problem of the developing model and economy changing. The new labor law bring the benifits to workers and imput all responsibilites to enterprises, the government act as nothing in this issue. So that is why enterprises feel difficult. Don't forget the USD goes down and this made all export companies has no revenue because of the exchange rate changed as Chinese companies normally use USD in settlement. China products will not have advantage on price in next 10 or 15 years. Global companies will find a cheaper place to replace China, such as Vienam. So in China now you can see a lot of companies move to inner provinces for cheaper labor, land cost. Such as Uni-level moved to Anhui from Shanghai.

The most difficulty time for China is around 2015 to 2020 and it will remain 20 to 30 years.

i hope the thread starter is happy now, knowing he got 3 people fired.

Please don't be that dense. It is very unlikely that the poster who says that knows anything about the situation. It's not like the OP was trying to get anyone fired anyway, if taking pictures with the phones they were making would be a problem then they shouldn't have done it. They got themselves fired (assuming the poster is telling the truth)

I can give you some more details.

This girl, actually so cute. She is my fellowman, I am in Shenzhen(China).

iPhone is manufactured by Foxcon(very big Taiwan manufacture located in Shenzhen, more than 100,000 operators).
So the cute girl is one of the Foxcon girls.

I can imagine she is coming from remote village, born at poor family, after her middle school study, she come to Shenzhen and find this job.

It's funny, this story?
Hope she not loose her job....

In a sense!
The internet is so powerful, so we(Chinese) come to here to see what happened.
Of cource the manufacturer get this information.
What a pity to the girl!

Incredible as if you know much more truths than Chinese,
in China it's reported National Gymnast girls are all more than 16.
However, I am sure some of them are 13 or 14.

Her name is Kiko.

Note: This is not her real name, this is just what I have named her when this story first broke. and we created a whole back story for her. You can read it in the first few pages of this thread.

Apple should hire her for an appearance in a iPhone commercial! It would be an inside knowledge thing and the rest of the PC world would be like oh look at the cute Chinese girl. :)

1. They are not fired.
2. It's not his fault, the workers took the pictures. Sheesh.

You think anyone is like "Oh Ashley Alexandra Dupré you are horrible, you got Elliot Spitzer fired!"??? I think not...

Very impressed at the clean room type facillities apple is using . Workers fully gloved and hair netted up.

I hope she isn't fired she should be a celebrity after all its great publicity for apple. She should get a spot on the Tonight Show.

the girl has been fired.

Did you read the linked article?
"She is definitely not fired," an unidentified representative from Foxconn's factory in Shenzhen, southern China, told the newspaper Xiandai Kuaibao.

The factory assembles most of Apple's iPhones and iPods, the newspaper says.

The representative confirmed that the "iPhone girl" was one of its employees but declined to give details.

He said it was likely that the test photos were left in the phone's memory "accidentally." The company is investigating the incident.
