Finally

Okay so i finally got my iphone on Thursday in Rockhampton, Queensland. They actually arrived on wednesday but the mother couldnt find any proof of identification lol so after braving the long and very nerve racking night i got quickly in to the telstra shop in stockland and after about a half hour activation with one of the un-tech-savy people (possibly all Telstra staff are just that) i had a working iphone. so i got a $59 dollar data and plan combinations which although is quite poor value is the best i could get in rockhampton due to optus and vodafone being on the wrong frequency (suckers). One question: I have noticed that the vibrator rattles somewhat badly, definately sounding like internal clashing, has anyone else noticed this? Also could everyone post there plans and what they include?

Actually id have to say optus and vodafone are, sure theyre plans are better but overall im pleased with my plan, i dont use alot of data (although that may change with more being available) and lets face it telstras coverage is the best, let alone the fact vodafone and optus have no coverage in rural areas (including mine) due to the frequency issue. im happy with telstra overall with my business over the 7 years ive been with them. Btw, you remember me at all? trying to buy my optus deposit lol

yeah i remember.

tell me what your data allowance is and how much you go over at the end of your first month:D

Hey, just a question for you iPhoners. I was reading on Mactalk and a lot of people were complaining about that the iPhone was using data in the background without using any internet apps etc. So is that what everyone here is experiencing? I was just wondering because i want to go on telstra :)eek: i know, but everyone is 1c mad here and no one will text me otherwise) and the 5mb limit will easily go over if this is the case

If you've got Push on, it'll obviously be always connected, sending/receiving at any time.

Plus, I think turning off "Data Roaming" will disable this.

There is a push setting on the phone allowing for automatic connection to push email, mobileme, calendar/contacts etc where you can set it every 15 mins or every hour to push any email etc to your phone - obviously if this is set up then you will blow your usage out. I have disabled this on my phone and I also get into the habit of checking the data usage meter to see if my kb's sent/received have gone up. I mainly use my phone through wi-fi for the data side so I dont have any problems

5mb will begone in 3 webpages. Less then one day of sitting around doing nout. What's worse, 24 less texts per person or $400 bills

I know what I would prefer... Optus $59 plan, 500mb of data $350 of calls and a 16gb for under $200

Data problem

so after fretting about the data useage on my phone (currently at 107mb) and knowing that i hadnt used that much and lots of calls and visits to telstra, i have figured that the bigpond services do actually work when you dont have a wifi connection. so turn off wifi, click on bigpond bookmark, click on my account click data snapshot, click data. now it will show you your useage. so mine is instead of 107mb, around 6mb. just so you know iphone users on telstra get a text at 80% data allowance used and then again at 100%. hope this helps people

I was playing with my iphone at TAFE the other day, and my TAFE mate was asking about the iPhone, I told him all I knew about and he told me that he might consider getting one. You see my friend works for three mobile and he stated that the iPhone will be coming later this year!

I rekcon would try to attract more cutomerd by provide a large data allowances. They already have a data package of 2GB for 40 dollars, if you rekcon you should wait! Be my guess, however I am on the cap 59 optus plan!

Actually the 15 minute interval thing is for fetch email. push email only downloads from the server when the phone is alerted by the push email supplier. This means that it only uses data when you receive an email. Also dont use your included data useage checker on the iphone. Use bigpond or whatever carrier your with because something is wrong with the counter as you can read in my previous post

I haveno idea why people choose to go with Telstra. Sure they have good coverage, but they charge way too much.

Wait a minute I'm on Telstra mobile broadband.

for us THREE users

The telco spurned by Apple so far -- Three -- has announced tasty plans for iPhone users who bring their own 3G handset.

Three doesn't have the announcement it probably wanted to make: that it is to become the fourth official telco to be selling the iPhone. But it has a tasty offer all the same: fantastic value plans for people who bring their own iPhone to the telco.

Currently, the only way to get an iPhone in Australia that's not locked to a particular network is to buy an iPhone through Optus on a prepaid basis, then pay an $80 unlocking fee. Prepaid iPhones from Optus cost $729 for an 8GB model, or $849 for a 16GB. Combined with the $80 unlocking fee, that equates to $809 for an 8GB and $949 for a 16GB.

When you bring your own phone to Three, the telco will pay you $300 to offset the cost of buying the phone from Optus. Suck on that, Apple!

So the real starting price for putting your iPhone on Three is either $549 for an 8GB, or $649 for 16GB. But after that, the pricing becomes a lot sweeter than any of the 'official' telcos. The catch, however, is that you have to sign up for 24 months with Three -- fair enough considering they're giving you a $300 credit.

THANKYOU THREE!

I can't believe this forum. I have been over at Mac Talk and look at MR every day but hardly ever post now.

This forum is S#@*E, really. All these stupid threads. The moderators went on about this thread and closed it for a while but they should be policing their own forum. I agree with the guy who started the thread on it, this forum is now a whiners forum and I also think a high probability it is frequented by apples competitors trying to whip up reliability rumors.

All you Aussies forget this place go to MacTalk or Whirlpool _you won't see any of this S#@*E.

OK the mods there are strict, but quite frankly macrumors has gone to the dogs and needs a heavy handed mod to clean it up so we can see what we really want to discuss.

so tempting, mate works at 3, i am on vodafone, and destroyed my cap in 2weeks($69/$310incl/250mb), but have heaps of data left, due to having wifi at home and most places i use it... 470 to pay out plan after cashback, then i have 600$ of credit per month for the same price and 2gb of data.

vodafone has been a massive letdown, but my phone is flawless apart from firmware bugs.

:D just watching the hollowmen on ABC (can podcast it) one of the dudes have an iPhone (first gen) and i thought COOL.

oh, original iPhone I pine for you.

VOTE1, original body and quality hardware with 3G and GPS:D:D

So I finally got my iPhone (after waiting ages). I got a black 16gb. Personally I think the white ones look terrible. Small things I've noticed...

- The headphone build quality is terrible compared to the last iPhone. It feels like a third party company made them. Definitely not Apple.
- iPhone feels great in the hand.
- The lack of camera update is bloody annoying.
- Safari seems more stable.
- 3G is nice.
- The App Store makes the old iPhone (software) seem so limited and crap.
- GPS works well.

Can't think of much else. But yeah, I'm very happy with it. I'm just glad to get rid of my really old Sony Ericsson which I was using 'til I got this (after I sold my first iPhone).
