No WiMax WTF come one

Why no WiMax? Well, it's a Sprint technology. That's TF.

As for all the naming conventions, nobody mentioned that the iPhone 3G2GG2 would be in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models. Therefore, it's the iPhone 3G2GG28GB/16GB/32GB!

I think they'll probably drop the "3G" thing on the next udpate. The iPod Classic used to be the iPod w/video. Before, we had the iPod photo or photo iPod (I forget which). The addition of "3G" to the name was a smart marketing move so people wouldn't wonder if it was 3G or not.

Just got an e-mail from XOHM (the sprint WiMax people). Looks like they will be offering Mac support for there devices and have merged with several companies and partnered with several others. This could be a big deal.

I don't doubt that they'll offer an expansion card/dongle that works with Macs, but I don't think the iPhone will be able to use it.

Also, I think that Xohm/XOHM will be called something else (Clear?). Yay for me reading the AP news on my iPhone. :)

i think it is true, you know.

Apple is in the habit of adding lots of features onto it's products, so maybe MWSF, but MWSF is for snowleopard and...

Snow Leopard will NOT be at MacWorld.

Montevina iMac updates, something with the Mac Mini & Apple TV, updated 17" MacBook Pro, updated 30" Cinema Display

Nehalem Mac Pros sometime soon after MacWorld.

Snow Leopard at WWDC.

I believe youre onto something there. I've honestly never thought about this June/July being iphone's 2nd anniversary therefore folks holding onto their original iphones 2 year contract will be coming to an end soon. Yea you'd think they'd be planning something big that would make enough of an impact that you just GOTTA HAVE IT and sign that nice little 2 year contract again.

:D

Can't wait to see what happens if anything.

(By god, I've held off this long, I dunno how, but I've survived) :p

The only question is what will be that "gotta have it" feature. GPS and 3G speeds are already on there, firmware updates will apply to all iPhones or at least the 3G and the new one. Maybe that will also persuade people if Apple starts charging for firmwares to iPhone 2G owners, like they do to ipod touch owners (please hold the comments ipod touch owners). But what exactly would make people definitely upgrade, and not only 2G owners, but some 3G owners as well. Some kind of hardware has to be added to increase features.

as fake as that picture looks, i remember the pic of the "iPhone 3G" with black plastic back sitting on the silver macbook pro that EVERYone thought was fake, turned out to be real! so who knows?

although i dont really see any differences in this pic besides the stamps on the back

WiMax Technology (an alternative to Cable/DSL) ... huh? like to replace the home services?

Live TV ...doubtfull unless its a web based app, at&t uses the FLO network but it would be pointless for apple to throw that in there if very few countries use it

Built in E-Book reader; alternative to Stanza, dunno about that stuff

Native MMS, think they would have done it by not since its just software, unless the mean it will be the glorious 3.0 update

Bluetooth Synch, unlikely

App Store Gigantic Software Update, whoaaa gigantic!!!!!.........?

NO COPY & PASTE. thanks for the update!

basically, this guy is a moron.

No. It's just a blog looking to drive viewers to their site.

ROFL. Now don't get me wrong guys, I just posted it because I think an iPhone update is overdue, as for a massive update, i'd wait a bit longer, possibly after july 2009. The sites I posted seem to raise a point but go a bit too far with their assumptions.

Regardless, I would expect at least a storage and a software update around Jan 5 - 9th 2009. Of course, buying it will come a few weeks later.

LOL good review.

I think an update will be sooner than June July 09.
With "competition" nipping at Apple's heels, even though the other are not as good, the next phone needs to bring back the buzz about the iphone.

The shortcomings of the iphone are not just in these forums they are on the high traffic tech sites.
The new phone should get a new name, that is probably the only way it can break free of the 'iphone' characterization.

Competition.
The competition may not be seen as direct. For instance the Storm might not be a viable competitor by anyone here but it may be enough of a phone to make someone decide to change to verizon.
ATT probably has a strong nterest in keeping the iphone fresh.
I recently swithed from verizon to ATT and dragged 4 other line with me. Verizon has called me the last 10 days. I haven't answered the phone.
Isn't the iphone approaching 2 years old. There are a lot of 2 year contracts coming due. Better to release a new flashy phone before those customers stat looking at other carriers.

true but u have to remember now the iphone is available in, like, 69 other countries? or will be atleast? so their priorities arent necessarily with helping at&t and fighting off verizon.

first iphone came out 6/29/07, so those contracts will be up 6/29/09, assuming they didnt upgrade to the 3G (although a lot of them did). so if a new model comes out next summer that would be about the right time for people to get the new one.

and either way, id much rather them take longer and get it right than to rush it into production and have bugs!!

I expect the new iphone to be out just in time so the very first iphone owners will just be ending their contracts... perfect for AT&T and Apple, just think about it for a second, I think I'm on to something here. So perhaps an announcement in May?

I have seen someone's explanation for this already and I figure it might duty to shut this rumor down. Storage upgrade is not feasible as a 32GB NAND drive is not available and/or feasible for the iPhone in its current form factor. Also, why would they release a 32GB iPhone, if you want that big you buy an iPod touch, not an iPhone. Cannibalization doesn't make sense. 16GB is plenty for a PHONE. Look at the G1 and other comparable phones, they can't even get to 16GB, so no 32 GB in January. Software update (BIG) and new product, and NO Snow Leopard, too early and not right event.

Maybe before may...

If you are Apple:apple:, you have to consider the contract of us iPhone 1.0 users coming to an end. You also have to consider the fact some iPhone 2.0 users might want to upgrade as well as new users who waited until iPhone 3.0 to purchase (as with cars, a lot of people wait for the third model in order to ensure the bugs are worked out). That's a lot of demand. Best to release early to give people a chance to decide to get it. And to give ATT a chance to come up with some sort of schedule for upgrading to prevent a total run on the system that characterized the 2.0 release.

Apple:apple: released the iPhone 2.0 (or 3G) exactly 10 months after iPhone 1.0 (or 2G). If Apple:apple: hold true to form, they could be releasing iPhone 3.0 exactly 10 months after iPhone 2.0. That would put the release in May. Which means Apple:apple: would have to announce the release at the latest in April.

Just my 2 cents.
