Aren't people being a little too courteous? If someone says they called 10 stores and they say they all said 8am. Then someone else calls the same stores and NONE of them say 8am... isn't it fair to say someone isn't telling the truth?
Being polite is all well and good, but at some point you have to see it for what is it. If some append is removed for questioning it, then maybe the whole thread should be removed.
Well, here's another list, this time from the Philadelphia stores, five of which were previously claimed to have "confirmed" it. I'm not getting anywhere near that level of confidence from these answers, but, in fairness, one store that didn't normally open at 8AM did say 8AM...but one out of ten isn't very good odds. We'll know soon enough. Note that this is the FIRST time anyone has told me 8AM (aside from the one person before who immediately said 8AM, and then when asked where the information came from, said it was a rumor he'd heard). Let's face it: we don't know, and won't have any real confirmation until:
1. Every store can consistently and reliably say 8AM (and right now I have one out of about 35 who claims it isn't a rumor, with everyone else giving conflicting information or saying they have no idea...think about it: if staff and managers were really under orders to not release the information, they wouldn't randomly give an array of conflicting and contradictory answers; they'd have been instructed to simply say they didn't know), or
2. Apple and/or AT&T issues a press release or official statement.
Why am I doing this? Because it took me about 15 minutes to do, and I'm just trying to present the facts of what AT&T stores have said — nothing more, nothing less. This isn't calling anyone else a liar, or calling into doubt the original email message (which, as I said, could have just represented confusion about prep time vs actual on-sale time, since it was an email internal to ONE STORE, and not a memo sent to store managers, which, if it exists, has not yet been leaked, even though two prior internal AT&T memos to store managers about iPhone 3G were quickly leaked).
Oh, and for the record? I'd love it if the 8AM launch time was accurate — but we clearly don't know that yet. It doesn't really matter if it's 8AM or 6PM to me, as I'll be planning accordingly anyway.
