From looking at those pictures, it seems more like the original iPhone had a blue tint than the 3G having a yellow tint.

regarding feel.. what about slippery factor?
1st gen, i cannot use without some sort of case, sleeve, whatever.
its just too damn slick and slippery, like holding a 12" powerbook
is the 3G any less slippery in the hand?

My opinion: The new iPhone 3G is much easier to hold naked. I have the 16G white model and the plastic backing seems to provide much better grip. I pre-ordered an Invisi-Shield from Zagg, but that won't be coming for at least 2 weeks. I simply love this phone, no issues at all for me. I am totally impressed by Apple again!

Got in line at the Vegas Fashion Show mall at a little after 5 this morning after being out all night...It got rough. I was about number 65...took a very long time to get people activated and I was told that the servers were jammed and that I would have to go do it at home. The whole in-store activation was a poor, poor decision. There were over 100 people still in line when I left, some are probably still there. I was able to activate several hours later.

I couldn't decide what color, so I bought one of each! Lucky for me they didn't have even more colors to choose from.

As dbq2005cc said, the grip is good... and in either hand.

So you don't need to click on the Phone, then click Contacts to get to your contacts.

One point of confusion is whether or not 3rd parties will be able to offer a turn-by-turn GPS solution for the iPhone. Questions about SDK conditions and antenna size have been raised in previous reviews, but TeleNav confirmed to Gizmodo that they will be launching a 3D moving map GPS application with turn-by-turn voice guidance.

Well... this is complete and utter shyte! If Telenav is going to offer navigation software, you can bet that TomTom and other Nav software makers are going to be blocked from releasing their software through the App Store by AT&T. Telenav's carrier based model always involves a monthly fee (~$9.99) paid to the carriers.

Not good news for US iPhone 3G owners if true, but at least European owners may very well get a sweet version of TomTom.

It feels less slippery. Fits better in hand. However, as I dropped mine several times in the past few months, I got a clear protective cover, just in case it gets to slippery. I hate the bruises on my old First Generation.

AT&T Signal strength improvement

Luckily, I just swapped out my old 8gig for the 16g. Awesome in comparioson for every reason I have seen listed.
The Pepsi challenge for me;
1st gen I could not get a signal on my living room couch or in the basement of my office(I tolerated it because I love the phone so much).
3G iPhone I have been making and receiving calls all day in those locations that sound better than my 1st gen ever did with full bars.

To note thou, This is not due to the fact that I had one of the first. I lost one, and I had a failure with the recent replacement (touch screen failed). My current 1st gen is only one month old and the problem was exactly the same. Three diff phones

For those concerned with signal strength you will rest better when you finally breakdown and get one. It is better. Much better. That is a fact!

I wonder if Apple does not want to broadcast this fact the 1st gen did not have a very good antenna by not bragging about how much better than this one is!!!!!!!!! And it is.

I can finally LOSE my landline, not to mention my secretary can update my iCal, I get all my various email accts and I had no problem activating.

Plus, I had the feverish grin to play with it as much as I did the first time I had one a little over a year ago, I cant set it down NO WORRIES FOLKS

Um, I don't understand what you're talking about. The ipod and the iphone/touch are two completely different platforms, so none of what's being released is related to regular ipod classic and ipod nano users.

Wrong. I just downloaded a bunch of stuff to my iPod 3G. Lightning fast!

Los Gatos Apple Store. 7:30AM to 12:30PM. "Sorry folks, ALL 16GB iPhones are SOLD OUT."

Somehow, after babying my brand new 8GB 3G iPhone, and mainly just sitting on my desk, I noticed a very small hairline fracture on the screen. Not the outside glass, but inside...on the edge. Great.

11:40 Appointment at Apple Store for Sunday.

Check your screens

My wife's screen has a speck of dust (actually not a small speck, either), on the inside of the glass.

She was bummed about it, and felt bad...but a half hour later discovered a red pixel in the middle of the screen of mine.

We'll get this sorted out, but guys you should take a look at your screens. I only can see the hot red pixel with a black background showing.

man, im sorta pissed that i waited in line, and got all the way up to #3 in line, when they announced that the 16GB phones ran out! And they didn't have like a waitlist or anything! Wow, I feel so sick... well, i felt sick in the first place, not I just feel more sick. Sick sick sick...

At my AT&T store we were having problems with itunes from the moment we opened at 8am. So people still with problems activating your iPhones it may still be a iTunes problem. Out of the five demo phones that we had activated the night before only two were activated this morning. I feel bad for all those that did not get an iphone today. As an iPhone Pro at an AT&T store and a current iPhone 1.0 user I think the improvements to the phone were decent considering the new subsidized price and upgrade eligibility for former iPhone users. The GPS is quick and the nice moving blue dot can be fun. 3G to many people is not even a major selling point. You'd be surprised how many times I was asked by people waiting at the demo station what 3G was and why the phone was called iPhone3G. The screen IMO is much better, when placed next to an older generation iPhone it seems more vivid. I do have a complaint about the battery life as giving demos seemed to drain the battery fairly quickly. The one major thing I love is the new shape. If you currently have an iPhone the new one is not a must have since you get the new software anyways. The majority of the people that got a new iPhone today were first time iPhone buyers, so to them the OS was a major selling point not the new 3G and GPS.

so are they on-sale at 8am on Saturday too or was that just a Friday thing? the local Apple store opens at 10am (according to the store's page on apple.com)
