For some reason my unit shows me as in Chicago when I try to locate myself. This only happens in my apartment. Otherwise it is dead on. I am not to keen on the yellow tint of the display....hmmm.

I don't have the iPhone 3G, but the 2.0 Firmware is awesome.

I'll definitely be picking up the next upgrade of the iPhone (more space) and the 3G is awesome, but I can wait until there are more significant updates.

But I really love some of the little apps. I'm still hoping for that ever-elusive flash, an ESPN sports app, and a couple little adjustments, but besides that Apple has done it again!

A job well done!

Yeah it's lower when you sit there and play games on it and drain it out.
The battery is a better battery.
You just have to count that we are doing different things now.
and have some better battery Management. For example, Emails.
If you're not really getting that many emails, should you be using Push? just turn it off. Also, the Auto check email "Fetch" , set it to Manual. This will stretch out the battery life a couple extra hours on the end of the day believe it or not.
And with ANY device out there, if you just sat there, and surfed the Web, played games, Watched videos and such, You're going to drain the battery out. It's just a given.
No offense, but I think that is sort of ridiculous. The phone is touted as having these features, it came with these features, those features are meant to be used. Who gives a flying crap if I want to sit there and use the iphone for all that it's made for. Of course we can't expect it to last forever and it is expected to be drained but soon enough but i hate when people make excuses for apple and end up sounding like the user is at fault for something by using the damn product.

.

Okay, so... Pandora is officially my favorite new APP!

Just thought I'd throw this in...I also wanted to purchase some JBL speakers and a few other things while purchasing the new iPhone, and the rep never made me feel rushed or anything. Apple employees should be commended for working hard under stress (even if their network can't!)

??

Hey guys!
Does anyone of you know if the "no-commitment" iPhone is already available in stores to buy right now? If not, when?

Thanks in advance for your help !!

Here's an interesting oddity in iPhone 2.0

It may just be my particular phone but anyway... When I go into the Maps app and hit the locate button while I am outside the GPS in the iPhone is really accurate, right down to my driveway. With the old software It was within a few blocks. Now, when I hit the location button while inside my house it is WAY off, like 1000 miles or so. I thought that it defaulted back to the cell tower triangulation method like the Version 1.0 software used. I live in upstate New York (Albany Area) and if i hit the locate button from inside my house it places me very accurately on Kathy Lane in Schaumberg, IL which is a suburb of Chicago!

Anyone else?????

Alright, the only real comment I want to make is why did this all have to happen today? I wish it would have been a "Week of Apple". Maybe Monday release the original iPhone update, Wednesday release the iPod Touch update, and Today (The Grand Finale) the iPhone3G of course...

I saw this coming long ago...Of course Apple's servers are going to get SWAMPED! WTF? I just think all this "bad" press about Apple not being able to re-launch without a hitch could have been avoided (or at least lessened). ;)

I think everything will settle down, and be running smoothly very soon but at what cost?

Uh ohhh, maybe my previous post was incorrect? :(

The yellow screen issue seems pretty troubling.

So for now it looks like I'll be fine with my 2G + 2.0.

But I wonder what the next iPod Touch will have in store..

I think people are too harsh with this server issue. You have 6 million current users trying to get 2.0. Couple with what, a million more users using the same systems to activate? C'mon what server do you know that can handle potentially 7 to 8 million data request that runs up to 20 minutes a session.

Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Microsoft,...

Some sites estimated that Youtube was running 140 GB/sec two years ago.

-3g is 10-20sec faster than EDGE in my area..... not worth it...Make it faster
-My co worker's 3g looked terrible today, yellow+greenish tint to it...FIX IT!
-Get a full working gps software....where is it?
-Give me different colors, black and white looks worse than my 1st gen....
I'd however get a red or blue...:)

Until then, 3g is all worthless to me....
:D

All in all it was worth the hassle

I have to say that I was unhappy when I got home this morning after purchasing my phone. Partly because I was unable to activate my phone until 1pm and partly because I was extremely tired. I was first in line at my local Apple store in Peobody MA. The time leading up to the doors opening was actually a blast and I dont regret waiting from 3am one bit. I purchased the white 16GB and everything was going smooth until activation. I ended up being in the store for over 1 hour and 45 min. I was exausted and cranky, but to their credit, the Apple employees were fantastic. The manager was even kind enough to give me a free year of MobileMe because I was first in line and had to wait so long.

You are so right all of the Apple representatives I dealt with where awesome today and all hell was breaking lose. The lady I had was a really nice person who was genuinely helpful which is more than I can say for some Apple retail employees. All in all today was a lot of fun and I am enjoying my 3G so far.

2% 3G Coverage, 98% Useless Upgrade

Unless you are in the select areas that AT&T has for 3G there is no reason to upgrade.

The GPS is slow and worthless unless you're on 3G or WiFi.

I'm keeping my 1st Gen and wait until I get 3G in my area.

APPLE (STEVE JOBS) & AT&T SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR THIS UPGRADE FOR USA BUYERS.

I WISH VERIZON WOULD HAVE GOT THE CONTRACT, AT LEAST I'D HAVE A REASON TO UPGRADE.

STEVE JOBS IS AN INSANE CONTROL FREAK AND HAS GOT TO LET IT GO.

EVERY OTHER PHONE EVER RELEASED GIVES FULL DETEAILS.

ALL THE DUMB *SS'S TODAY PURCHASED THE PHONE ON THE HOPE OF THE HOLY GRAIL.

WELL THE APPS ARE LAME UNLESS YOU'RE A GAMER AND UNLESS YOU HAVE 3G THERE IS NO REASON TO UPGRADE.

I dont feel the screen is yellow in a bad way.

I am really pleased with my 3G. At first I was unhappy with all the activation nonsense (probably more so because I was extremely tired), but now that I have been using the phone I find it so much better than my 2G. I have to admit, I think the 2G is superior in its construction, but I dont think the screen color looks better at all. I find the color on the 3g to be much closer to the industry standard as far as color temperature. The 2G was on the cooler side and too blue for my taste.
I like the form factor much better as well. I am a big guy and have large hands, but I could never get used to how the 2G felt. The curved back makes a big difference. There is a noticable weight difference, and I'm not sure I prefer the lighter 3G, but I haven't had it long enough to make a fair comparison. One thing that is irking me though is the fact that none of my aftermarket chargers that worked with my 2G will work with the 3G. My FM transmitter in my truck (the only one I have ever had that was worth a damn) plays music very well, but it doesn't charge. I guess I'm going to have to make a few more investments on chargers. Anyway, I am very happy with the purchase and wanted to pass that along. If you are on the fence about upgrading, dont hesitate.

Oh, one more thing. I am glad I went to Apple for the phone instead of AT&T. They are much nicer. The manager there actually felt so bad that I was first in line and had to wait so long in the store because of problems that she gave me a free year of MobileMe to take with me. I'm not sure how much I will use it, but it was a nice gesture.

I like my original iPhone

I went and checked out the new phone and thought it felt cheap compared to my 8gig edge iPhone, I love the aluminum back of my phone and the marginal wireless speed increase is not important to me, most of my surfing is done via wifi. Maybe when they come out with a 64gig unit I will consider buying one, I also did notice the crappy tint on the screen, for now I am happy with my phone but I am glad I went and compared to see what the new one is like, it is a nice piece just not even close to something I would upgrade to.....

I must say that I am 90% happy with me iPhone. It's not the iPhone that I have a problem with, it's the 3G service. I live in a good coverage area according to AT&Ts map, yet I can't get 3G in my home or workplace. I have to go outside to get the 3G indicator to show up. Driving around a two mile area, the 3G indicator would come and go. I also get only one bar when 3G is active, 3 bars when edge is active.

Maps - Nice changes here. Using the locate me feature, I like how precise it is. It continues to zero in on me until it is very accurate. I zoomed in on the map while out driving tonight and watched as the little dot navigated the streets that I was on, turned the corners as i did and even stopped. It even knew what side of the highway I was on when parked next to it, something my Garmin GPS faulted on. MY Garmin GPS would place me on the highway.

Speaker sound - Well, considering that I bought a 16GB iPhone back in February when they came out, that iPhone had excellent speaker volume as well as earpiece volume. I notice no difference in the original 16GB volume than on my new 16GB 3G.

Battery life - Seems about the same. I played with it numerous times while on my work shift tonight, more so than normal being it is day one of owning it. After seven hours, the battery indicator went down a small sliver.

Push Mobile Me Email - Works great. I sent some test messages from a Google account and my iPhone notified me of their arrival in less than a minute.

Apps Store - I purchased an App tonight right on my iPhone. The 3G indicator was gone and the edge symbol was displayed and the app still downloaded and installed in about three minutes.

Other than the off and on 3G service in my area, I am happy with my purchase. I sold my old 16GB tonight for $280 so my new iPhone cost me $20 + taxes and my 5 hours spent in line and three hours sleep in two days. :apple:

i couldn't agree more. he was also referencing other phones... well, most of those phones at least have a user replaceable battery. what in the hell is the logic in prohibiting me to opt for a high-capacity lion batter? maybe the extra bulk is worth it to me. i thought they'd listen to us this time. recessed headphone jack and non-user replaceable battery are two inexcusable mistakes... at least they corrected one.

My guess is, it's reading WiFi and attributing the MAC address for another geo location-- not a GPS problem, but the assisted aspect. Turn off your WiFi and try again. Give it a chance to picjk up the Sats.
