....... hmmm... maybe on a "Jailbroken" phone?

It was, and still is, below the text when entering email text and entering text into text boxes in Safari:

That's the way it's always been for me. However, the suggestion is above the text when entering SMS text, for instance... I'm not seeing any chance here.

Do you have the Business Plan? Does push to Exchange actually work with the standard plans? I have a friend that got it to connect with Exchange, but didn't receive any email and thought it was due to being on a standard plan.

There's been very little discussion about Exchange/Entourage sync here so far. Are there any business users here that can share their experiences yet?

Thanks

I have the personal plan and Exchange works perfet.

My Review

I didn't have the 1st Gen. iPhone. I got an 8 GB 3G.

Pros:
  • 3G is quite fast.
  • WiFi is blazin.
  • Screen is great.
  • Audio quality has been very impressive.
  • Some very goods apps so far, AOL radio gets two thumbs up.
  • Plastic backing DOES NOT feel cheap. It feels very sturdy and solid. (that's what she said)
  • Looks sleek and feels great in my hand. (that's what she said)
  • Activesync is sick. Love it.
  • Google Maps and GPS is pretty sweet and useful.

Cons:
  • Activation did take quite a long time at my local ATT store. Thankfully I was 12th in line and I got in and out before the server issues.
  • Battery life is ok but as someone mentioned, I've been pushing this phone to the limits non-stop. I definitely noticed battery life improved by not using 3G, so that's a good option to switch to EDGE.
  • No included txts in the plan, which has been said before. The $30 Family Unlimited is a good deal though with four people. :)

Overall, the shortcomings are DEFINITELY outweighed by the many benefits of this phone - the best phone on the market.

Good points about scheduling a meeting. Also, you can't view your Task List. Maybe they will add this in software updates soon.

My Exchange setup worked flawlessly once I logged out of my computer at work. I was having some password sync problems.

My first impressions...

I got my iPhone 3G (16GB) yesterday evening. 7 hour wait, but was worth it to upgrade. I had no problems upgrading. In fact I was very impressed that when I walked out of the Apple Store - Beverly Center (L.A., CA) that I had all my calendar and contacts already pushed to the phone upon activation.

I work for the City of Glendale, CA and setting up my work email account via the Microsoft Exchange Server wizard in the iPhone was unbelievably easy this time around. Not like last time where I had to contact I.S. support personnel for smtp addresses and port connections.

I now have a Blue Calendar showing for personal items and a Red Calendar for work items. Even more impressive was the ability for someone to send me an invitation for a meeting through MS-Exchange. The meeting request showed up as a screen pop-up overlay (white text on blue background overlayed on opening screen) and once opened for reply, allowed me to comment, and then either respond back as accepting, declining, etc. It showed automatically in my iPhone calendar upon accepting and when I checked my laptop later it was already on my work calendar in Outlook. I made a couple of contacts changes on my laptop which showed shortly thereafter in my iPhone contacts as well as my work computer - MobileMe (initial speed bumps aside) is working as advertised.

I've had none of the problems with setup, transfer of information, etc. Sound quality is significantly better on 3G - without question. The Application Store works very well as do some of the free apps - I can't wait to see what happens for future apps.

The only real downside so far has been that the Contacts on the iPhone appear to "lag" a bit than in the previous version. Also battery length is significantly less due to 3G - more than I thought it would be, requiring me to rethink about either using only 3G when I need it for large files, PDF's, etc. and utilize EDGE for day-to-day most part. I haven't done a comparison test between the two for battery life yet, but on 3G after a full charge last night, it was at 3/4 when I got up this morning and then was at 10% by noon requiring a recharge. Only three, 10-15 minute calls with some Internet checking and mail checking brought it down fairly fast.

I'm liking it...:)

Impressed

I went to an Apple store yesterday to try and buy an iPhone. I figured since it was late, about 7:30 pm there would be no line, and I was hoping to get right in. I was very wrong. When I got there there were about 250 people in front of me, and the line wasn't moving. Since I am out of town for work, I figured I had nothing better to do, and thought the line might only take a couple of hours. By midnight I knew that I wasn't going to get a phone, but I had already spent so much time waiting in line, I really didn't want to leave. The employees were great, and vowed to stay until everyone had a phone, but I really wasn't about to wait until 6:00 am. The security guards at the mall told them that they were kicking everyone out at 3:00 am so I decided to wait with the hope of getting in before then. Had I known that I would be waiting that long, I would never have stood in line. At about 1:00 am an employee came out and said that the At&t reps at the call centers were being sent home at 2:00 am eastern time. (In retrospect, that doesn't make much sense because when I finally got my phone today I didn't have to talk to anyone at At&t.) So they started giving out claim tickets and telling everyone to come back the next day, and they would be allowed to come straight in without waiting in line. I went home a little disappointed, but not much I could do about it.

Because of work I couldn't get back until 11:30 this morning. I was taken right into the store, (there were about 300 people in line) and handed my 16 gb black iPhone. The entire process was pretty seemless, and I was in and out within 10 minutes. I was not eligible for an ungrade, so I was anticipating having to pay 499$. When the sales guy rung me up the total was 430$, I was of course surprised and so I asked the rep why it was about $100 less than it should have been. He said that some people were being given a $100 discount. It didn't make sense but I wasn't about to complain.
I walked back to my hotel very excited. When I got back I plugged in and loaded all the applications I had downloaded yesterday. When I was done I noticed that there was only 6.5 gb left. That didn't sound right, so I started looking, and turns out I had purchased a 8gb iPhone. The sticker on the top of the box said 16gb but the smaller sticker on the bottom said 8gb, and the back of the iPhone said 8gb. I wasn't very happy, but the $100 difference in price suddenly made sense. I put everything back in the box and walked back to the mall. When I walked back into the store the sales rep I had dealt with was surprised and shocked at what had happened. He called a manager over who was suspicious at first, but after he checked the receipt, box and serial number he was amazed. It took about 45 minutes to get everything straightened out. Once they finally got everything figured out they told me they were giving me a $150 store credit with no stipulations for the trouble!

Although the whole thing was a mess, I was very impressed at how they handled it. They could have just said "sucks to be you" but they were very accommodating. It's no wonder they have so many loyal customers. Not too many other stores would have done anything like that.

I must say I like the new one better than the old one, but you can definitely tell the new color has a yellow tint...I had the worst experience at the 5th avenue store!! waited 6hrs to get my fon...it was brutal...so many employees just walking around!! the line was around the block...every employee should have be setting up new contracts:mad:

What a long few days!

I am a 1st gen owner and downloaded the unofficial software release on Thursday. I didn't do damn thing at work... I brought my MBP to work and worked on my iPhone to get it up and running. The first time I synced/downloaded the firmware update, everything worked great. So then I thought to myself, "hey, why not try to sell your phone online to get the new one?" So I did! $180. :) I took that money and went to the Apple Store during lunch and the line was ridiculously long. I came back after work and waited in line for about an hour and a half.. got the phone and went to my second job. I woke up this morning and activated it with no problems. :) I wanted to start fresh so I didn't restore my old phone.

So far, I love the feel of it. I am completely impressed with the speed of the 3g, I don't really notice the difference in signal strength though, which is kind of discouraging.. :-( AT&T says where I am located is covered in 3G.

MAPS - WOW! It pinpointed me without any problem. It was so ridiculous!

APPS - Wow again. Some of these apps are so wonderful and some of them are just stupid, i.e. flashlight, yes/no, light saber... but we can get over them.

OVERALL - I am happy with my purchase. I am thankful I have not had the yellow screen or dead pixels or even problems with activation.

Let's go Appllllleeee!!
I agree! I still own an 8GB version 1 and side by side, the screens are the same. Colors are identical and there is no yellow hue like some are reporting.

3G works great and is faster than edge. The App store alone is worth upgrading to 2.0 and it did it on both of my version 1 iPhones before it even became official.

Again the quality of this iPhone is what I have come to expect from Apple, no dead pixels, no yellow hue. Just like all my Macs, this thing just works.

I wish I was as happy with the news of the new iPhone as you are. I've always been number 1 fan of all Apple... Especially that I've been waiting for an iPhone since it was a rumor. I was so excited I told everybody I was gonna get one. But the one thing that got me to jump ship on the iPhone was a simple fix. I had to be dependent on an Apple rep to change my battery. That don't fly with me at all, especially with identity theft in an upraise. I don't know who is hire in retails these day. It will be my luck I handed over my iPhone, if I had one to a disgruntle employee. You hear this crap all over the news every day, about employee stealing company information for their own gain. It's nothing new at all. It's happening NOW as you read this. Big issue here as well is you can not walk in with battery problems, you must make an appointment with an Apple Genius. Which adds even more DOWN time of you cell phone use. What next I have to go to Athletic Footwear to have them tie my sneakers, cause I bought it from their store?????? Please! Find another SUCKER! At least with an LG Dare your guaranty ZERO down time if you ever had battery issues. Because you can change it your self. The way it is suppose to be in life... In NYC it's THE LAW to use hand free dialing. So I use voice dialing like ten thousand times a day. I been using voice dialing for 22 years on so many CHEAP FREE phone. Hmm.. Why should anyone be looking toward the App Store to get sh*t it should already have in it? Shouldn't the App Store be for innovative Apps? Voice Dialing isn't innovative and shouldn't be in the App Store. It's like offering a phone with out a dialing capability, so now you will have to go to the App Store to download a dailing App to make Calls. Hello! It is 2008 isn't it?

Well now that you've got that off your chest, hopefully you won't continue to post the same complaints over and over to these forums for the rest of your life like some do.Glad you are happy with your phone!

Ok, so who's the idiot -- or rather how many idiots are there out there -- who waited in line 2+ hours for a phone and walked out without also buying a case...only to drop it on the concrete on the way to the car?? LMAO...now your phone is gonna be all scratched and banged up while everybody else's is still shiny and new. Hahahahaha

Speaking from experience, bud?

I believe the difference is whether you are typing in the bar above the keys, like you do with SMS, or typing in a text field like in Safari or email. The iPhone 3G does still display the auto-correct above the text in SMS.

However, in the new AIM app, this is not the case. Within AIM, you type in the text bar above the keys like with SMS, but the auto-correct appears below the text. This is where the problem or interference arises.

I've only noticed the issue in AIM so far. Try it out.

I ended up showing my new iPhone to 4 of my dad's customers today.

My phone would receive email (MobileMe Push) and I'd take it out of my pocket to check and they'd be like "woah! Is that the new iPhone?!"

And you'd say,
"iPhone! why would I want that POS, it's all about the HTC Diamond!" :p

Was HTC/LG/Samsung even bother to produce iPhone competitors is beyond me. They need to stick to making regular phones that actually sell.

I get that even today for my original iPhone

Even those who aren't very tech savy know about the iPhone and its coolness factor

Father of mine is just starting to get into computers and was amazed at the iPhone. He is used to his old, rinky Verizon phone

Where's The Friggin' Document Viewer? How About A Dictionary Steve?

This is INDEED an AWESOME smartphone! I am THRILLED! However, why on earth is there no document viewer (Pages 08, Word)? Also, I realize that Apple and Steve the Gazillionairre are strapped for cash, but why not throw in a nice dictionary on the 3G iPhone? Finally, I REALLY enjoyed standing in line for 4 effin hours at the Tampa Apple store today to get this phone.

Exchange acting weird

I too LOVE the new iphone, I purchased the ver 1 last year when it launched and got the new one today. I love the feel of it and the 3g works good in my area (LI, NY) anyway,,,,,

I noticed with 2.0 even on the old iphone after i installed it Thursday that sometimes when i send an email to my work exchange (push) account, it sends it 4 times, once every 2 minutes, very weird, I replied to my boss on something and he asked why I answer him 4 times, Kinda sucked. then i emailed my wife from Apple while I was on line today and again, it sent the email 4 times to her, once every 2 minutes. Most of the time is has been sending once, but once in a while it sends the mail 4 times,,,, It even shows up in my sent box the 4 times. Hope Apple finds the problem and fixes it, it kinda sux that I have this great phone and people ask me y I keep sending the same message over and over again

Wait until it can be jailbroken and then the two world of installer and appstore can live together.

I'm now using the old iphone and wedict is one of the reason that made me bought this iphone.
