I can totally see the 3GS dropping to $129.00 or $149.00, and the New iphone 4th gen for $249.00/32GB & 349.00/64GB. I don't think they can maintain the prices in the face of US dollar inflation.

For anyone excited by this, the iPhone is NOT and will NOT be $99.

It's just a baseless marketing line.

If the 64 gb comes in at $299, it will be the first time I spring for the top end model. 64 gb will finally make my iPhone a true and fun iPod. Even though I stream most media, the experience isn't yet he same.

I don't agree:
The cost of the phone (i.e. the base $99) and the recurring cost of the service are two different things.

The recurring service cost is optional, not a requirement. When you reject the optional service they will not sell it for $99.

@marksman It might look something like this.

Just sold my 3GS 16GB for £400! Poor Bugger who bought it, no tech knowledge whatsoever!

iPhone HD/4G HERE I COME!

99% sure its

$99 3GS 16GB
$199 iPhone 4

$199 4G 16GB
$299 4G 32GB
$399 4G 64GB

I don't see them keeping a 3GS model. They kept the 3G because it was part of the same generation. I'm certain they'll either remove the low end model completely, or have an 8GB/16GB 4G $99 model, if the above prices I wrote aren't right.

It's like the countdown to Christmas in an orphanage!

And I don't mean that in a small way...!:)

Inflation is at almost an all-time low dude. The US dollar is worth a lot right now, they aren't going to increase the price. It is going to stay 199/299

If we finaly see a 64GB iPhone at $299, Ill be buying that one!

Does anyone know what the price of the HD memory chips are now? Have they dropped any sense the introduction of the iPad?

There's no way. They will definitely keep the 3GS model probably $149 for the 16GB.

I'll put out my guess of:

$99 16GB iPhone 3G S (maybe even 8GB if Apple is subsidizing the HD models)
$199 16GB iPhone HD
$299 32GB iPhone HD

It'll be nice for the HD models to double capacity, but seeing all the other features they are adding like 2 higher resolution cameras, higher resolution screen, bigger battery, new housing material and design, etc. the Bill of Material might be high enough without doubling flash memory. The added features and different design should also be sufficient to differentiate the $99 iPhone 3G S with the $199 iPhone HD even if they have the same capacity.

I'd say there's a 99.99% chance we'll see:

$99 3GS 16 gb
$199 HD 32 gb
$299 HD 64 gb

Although those prices seem a bit aggressive, on second thought they do make sense in terms of the overall market trend. This sort of pricing might put a little pressure on the margins though. :(

That's a really weak argument for your original assertion............. but you're entitled to your opinion.

$99 3GS 16 gb
$199 HD 32 gb
$299 HD 64 gb

With Steve saying one more thing "were going to sell all iPhones 100% contact free, you pick your carrier".... supposing theres a CDMA version. Not going to happen buy a guy can dream :)

Are you insane? Do you even know how economics work? The only way to truly gage any currency is against an inflation proof medium like Gold. Please research prior to posting such nonsense.
