Now that is just ridiculous. When you hold the iPhone on your ear, the edge touches your ear anyways. This mockup is simply changing where it touches the ear, which would be just a tiny bit lower on your ear than previous iPhones. And it's only uncomfortable if you actually push the phone into your ear.

You were really overreacting and didn't even bother thinking.

yeah but there is another disadvantage as well, and thats background noise, it will be much higher if only half of your ear is covered by the phone...

Whatever, every phone I have used doesn't have the earpiece right at the edge of the damn phone.

I just snapped these photos quickly.

#1 would be how I'd hold the 'new' iPhone, and #2 is how I hold the 3G.

#1 is not comfortable at all, and #2 is natural.

Imagine where the earpiece is. In order to hear clearly, you would have to put the phone lower just like how it's displayed in the first image.

I dont think they camera will stand out that much... and the iphone will never have a side button like that.

someone on the site mentioned that it could be just a smaller phone, I think apple even mentioned an iphone 2,2 somewhere in there beta software, wasnt it like 3 different models, one 3g one 3g extended, and 3g for china (or japan, cant remember) with no wifi???

...well anyway i have changed the pic to look like the short iphone.

I'll say this is most likely version. Shorter smaller phone with same screen size and stuff. I would NOT prefer bigger phone if screen size is the same.

To be honest, I really hope the bezel is not a flat black. The chrome of the current one allows for some contrast. I hope they are able to maintain this contrast with something that will not scratch up easily.

I don't normally chime in on these mockups, but I really like this one.

I redid it slightly ( I would kill for a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio.. i hate the current 15:10 )
the camera is now behind the front glass
the LCD is much larger

I'm diggin the larger screen with the camera. Nice. :D

This mock up appears to be based off the recent photos of the "2009 iPhone Bezel." If that's the case, something needs to be done with the bottom area where the home button is located. It doesn't appear that the rumored bezel continues along the bottom (pic 1). Perhaps a separation similar to the renders posted last week (pic 2).

Great mock up, by the way.

i like this mockup.. but i hope to god apple wont put the earpiece up so high and.. im sure the camera wont be so obvious on the front as one user above me suggested.. the screen will remain the same size:apple::apple:

exactly what I was going to say.

As skwoytek said... i think that the whole bottom of the iPhone around the home button will just be one button just like new unibody MBs and MPBs. With the home button behind the glass, it would be cool if that changed colour to signal message/missed call/e-mail ect.:apple:

So the button would be touch sensitive, that would be a nightmare!

Is it likely that the iPhone 2009 will be as thin as the touch...that would be amazing!

God I would hope not

having a button that large is asking for a ton of accidental presses

and please don't make it a touch button

How do we know that this is the official bezel that is being used, I am sure anybody could just make that up?

But surely if it was the real one the only way to fit a forward facing camera would be to more the speaker upwards despite it being abit on the strange side..

A front facing camera sucks in my opinion. I'm sure that'll piss off the people who want video calls but frankly I'm not in the same boat as those people. It's highly impractical in my opinion.

I think with future updates with Skype and the Maps this would be great. There were suggestions about motion sensitive games that will react to movements and gestures...this would be great and a step forward for the iPhone.

You wouldn't be required to use it. ;)

I've owned several video chat capable phones, used the function once, and the rest of the time simply ignored the little front-facing camera. It's not that difficult.
