Actually, didn't the DOT report that there was no issue with the gas pedal at all and that all the reports ended being plain user error ?

Why yes it was : http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703834604575364871534435744.html

Seems to me in a time where GM, Ford and Chrysler were in serious trouble, this Toyota story hit just in the nick of time.

Yeah, there were little or no problems. Of course the news says that Mr. Toyoda was hiding the fact that they have the issues...BS.

Oh brother, you mean the antenna problems that no one has made a single complaint about in the last 4 months? Yes, the signal degraded significantly when held a certain way. Even when intentionally doing so, I still was not dropping calls or losing 3G connection.

Not a peep in the Apple discussion forums for months. No more YouTube videos either. No release of a Rev B that "fixes" the "issue". Just the occasional tired sarcastic posting of an Apple hater here or there.

It goes both ways. You know - I haven't heard a peep this year in the media about vietnam and whether or not it was the right decision. I guess that means vietnam was a non issue too - right (eyeroll).

It was an issue. Apple's FAIL was how it handled the situation way above the actual issue which still exists. The fact that the media has moved on means just that - the media has moved on. The horse has been beaten to death. Doesn't mean the problem didn't and doesn't exist. It's just old news by now.

The only reason the antenna issue made the list is the news media got a hold of it and made it a bigger deal than it is. Real people with common sense and the ability to discern true data from false information know the antenna issue wasn't an issue but a bunch of hype.

I am a huge critic of Apple. But at least I tuned in for that press conference where Steve Jobs and other put the issue in true perspective.

I think my iPhone 4 has worse signal than my old 3GS, but it is a far superior phone and signal reception has never been an issue.

Huh. Well, my iPhone 4 is doing great (always have been). Yes, I can mimic the antenna issue, but I can do the same on a Droid X as well, so whatever.

And I actually use Ping quite a bit, and have found a lot of music via Ping as well. I wouldn't call it a fail in the least being that I've probably spent nearly $100 more per month on music specifically because of Ping. That's $100 that Apple wouldn't have sold unless of Ping.

But I will say that CNN is on my "fails" list for news. What will they say about that? lol.

There is ALWAYS a key. Just because it's in your pocket, doesn't mean there isn't one. Hit the "On/Off" ignition button. Or, SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL.

Turning the key is a bad idea anyhow. You'll just end up locking the steering column and disabling steering assist.

Shifting into neutral and letting the rev limiter do its job is the only sensible and safe solution.

QUESTION - if you believe your iPhone 4 has worse signal than your 3GS AND you believe that Steve Jobs put the issue in true perspective - you're very conflicted.

Steve and the marketing/pr crew at Apple did fail. The iPhone 4 is anything BUT a fail. That's a true perspective.

There are many cars on the market today that won't let you shift into neutral if it thinks it will damage itself doing so.

Not it wasn't blown out of proportion, fact is the problem exists in every iPhone 4, but users know there is nothing that can be done about it so they have shut up about it.

And what made it worse was Apple trying to deny it!

Every iPhone 4, huh? I have a week 31 and a week 33 that says you're wrong.

so you're saying with no case on, you can hold the phone with your left hand and your palm presses against the antenna gate and you do not lose signal? Video or it didn't happen :)

If so, then maybe Apple secretly fixed the issue

antenna issue or not, still doesnt fix the fact that ATT sucks by me :(

Dude, I've used about 5 phones so far that I haven't been able to replicate the issue on. It's not as widespread and apocalyptic as the blogosphere and haters tried to make it seem.

Yes - obviously anyone that posted that they had the issue is a hater. And clearly everyone who is a hater believes that an antenna issue is "apocalyptic"

and clearly I am a hater being that one of my firsts posts said that I had the iphone, returned it because of the issue and when they fix it I will certainly buy it again. I have a lot of Apple products and love them all, except the iphone 4 at it's current state, if they fix the issue that I can easily replicate even on the phones in there own store, then I will buy another

Same.

I ordered my iPhone 4 on June 15th through Apple (managed to get through)...It was delivered the day before launch day...and I haven't had a single complaint about the antenna. In fact, it drops fewer calls than my old 3G.

Because that is clearly what I wrote right? Oh wait....

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

I don't think antenna issue was a failure. The way Apple handled the issue was a failure.

How? They killed the issue with free cases. Otherwise, the media wouldn't shut up. It also fixed the problem that like 5 users had

BS... name one car that will prevent you from shifting into neutral while the engine is running.
It's a safety requirement that you must be able to disengage the drive train.
You can even throw a car newer car into park and not damage the transmission. It will just go click, click , click.

This shows that you don't know how the car works.

Hitting the on/off button does nothing.
Press and hold the button for 5 to 10 seconds (Varies by manufacturer) to kill the engine.
Again... safety requirement. You have to be able to turn the engine off.
Even the Prius has this.
Pressing the brake and hitting the On/Off button kills the gas engine.
Most people who complained about it failed to read their owners manual.
