put it in one bag, then put THAT bag into another, with the zip things facing opposite directions?

This won't go well.

This post won't ever help.

Spend $10-$20 on an old AT&T/Unlocked phone on craigslist (unless you already have one) then pick up or make your own micro sim adapter and use that phone at the beach, leave the iPhone in the car.

This post will help, and is what I would do.

This post won't help either, "lol".

You heard that? From who? How would sand get in...... wait, unless you mean when it's opened or has a hole in it.

A ziploc will work perfectly. I've been doing that every time I go to the beach for the past 2.5 years that I've owned an iPhone.

Man of wisdom  (That's not sarcastic either)

But seriously, just bring a crappy little go phone or something. I'd risk that over a new iPhone.

I thought you're only 16? Can your friends ride with you if your the one driving?

Different laws for different states. Illinois (to the best of my knowledge) doesn't have an occupancy limit once you get your license, as long as everyone has a seatbelt. Ex. 5 person car, 5 people.

Georgia, on the other hand, is different. Anyone under 18 has to wait at least 6 months to drive anyone around once they receive their license. So if your 16 you have to wait until your 16 and a half until you can drive 1 person, 17 for two people, 17 and a half for 3, and 18 for 4 or more.

But who follows those silly rules anyway?

I live in Hawaii and I fish quite often, usually once a week or so, year round. I will pay the extra $15 to protect my iPhone (or any phone) because I cant afford to take silly chances of my phone getting saltwater on it. Not only that, if you frequent the beach as much as I do, things don't even have to get wet to start rusting or corroding. I also do silly stuff like run my car through the carwash so my car doesn't rust either. I don't mind taking an extra step here and there for some piece of mind.

NO. why would you think that? I'm driving my car with about 5 of my friends in it, wouldn't even take that risk

Well, uh gee, let me think...

When I go to the beach I like to drink. I look around and see others doing the same, so I just asked.

(In your situation, I wouldn't take that risk either.)

She's under age, she's only 16 yrs old.

I've taken my iphone to the beach many time in many different places, and I always slip it in a single ziploc bag. Don't open this ziploc bag while you are at the beach at all. You can still work the touch screen through the bag. This should protect you unless you screw up and rip the bag or let it open somehow.

If you weren't being sarcastic, what's with the ? You do realize that's the "sarcastic" emoticon, right?

But even more seriously, I really do go to the beach quite often (I live 15 minutes from Santa Monica beach), and the ziploc bag has never failed me. I used to double bag it, but found that it was unnecessary. The good thing about ziplocs is that you can use the iPhone through the bag.

Yay thanks! As long as I van use my phone to text through the ziploc then I'll use it! Thanks for the help everyone, I'm sticking with the ziploc :)

When I go to the beach, I prefer not to be interrupted or tied down electronically. Usually I'm there to relax with friends/the wife and enjoy the outdoors.

Your safest bet is to keep it at home unless you DESPERATELY need it.

^^^^ I like to listen to music and read when I go to the beach. I do that with my iPhone.

I think that YOUR safest bet is to keep it at home unless you DESPERATELY need it.

/different people, different uses

Honestly, I desperately need it. I didn't tell my parents I'm going (don't be harsh on me guys). I'm just a teenager... I'm pretty sure most of y'all have done something when you were young... So yeah if they call I have to go straight home right away.

I am in the same situation as you. Just wondering to anyone who has experienced it, what happens if sand does get in it? Does it just scratch a lot? i like to have the feeling that i dont have to pay 500$ if i get pushed into a pool at a party or drop my phone. Also the razr has internet on it so its good enough for a temp phone

Oh I know, I can understand the need especially for a teenager a lot of your communication is done via mobile (texting especially) and since I'm from almost the same technology generation as you I'm the same way with communication.

But I still would leave it at home if you really want to be safe. Just let your parents know you're going to the beach and what not. Take a break electronically is my only sagely advice. :D

Hahah thanks for understanding :) Except Galveston is an hour away and my parents told me they think it's too far so yeah there's no way I can leave it at home :/

Waterproof case or ziploc bag I suppose. Just be careful no one steals it when you're in the water.

Sand rubbed on your iPhone DEFIANTLY will scratch, can be more or less horrific, just depends on the situation

Maybe I can be a little more helpful then some people that are in this thread as I live in Hawaii and go to the beach 3-4 times a week with my iPhone. Two words on how to protect your phone when at the beach:

OTTERBOX DEFENDER.

Honestly, it is the best investment I have made, plus it covers all the ports where the water sensor is located. Best buy has them, and fork out the $50 to protect your $200-$600 device.

I've known about them for awhile but sorry it's not my style. I'm a girl and enjoy my slim phone, bulk and covering the sexyy design of my phone defiantly is not for me.

Understood, however my girlfriend loves her otterbox. Be careful with the water sensors while at the beach. Best of luck.

Well, you'd only have to use it while you're in a place where the iPhone may get damaged. Plus, wouldn't it look a lot less ghetto than texting through a ziploc bag? :D
