I don't get the point of you asking this question, use some common sense and your own judgment whether to bring it to the beach or not or how to use it there!

You shouldn't have to ask a forum about your phone on the beach..

I used double, heavy duty zip-lock bags for my month long camping trip at the beach and they worked great.
Next to no sand intrusion, and we had a few nights with pretty strong winds that blew the sand everywhere. I also have a micro fiber cloth to help rid the phone of those pesky little grains of sand that seem to magnetically cling to nearly anything!
For even greater protection, I have a water tight Pelican case, but I didn't use it once on this trip.

Dude lighten up your going to have a stroke bein pissed. U dont like this thread go fly a kite and dont read it.

Set up a Google Voice account, its completely free, and have all of your calls forward to your buddys phone. This way you can leave your phone in the car and if your parents need to contact you they still can. Thats probably the cheapest and easiest way.

Galveston... yuk!! .. Probably the worst beach in the world.. Although, it's fun when you're with friends.. but it's nothing like a beach!

Have fun either way and be careful with the phone.. I think people have serious OCD with iphones :p :D I'd be more worried about someone stealing the phone than sand and water!!

I went to South Padre Island recently and carried the iP4 as I normally do, with a Belkin clear case from Worst..err.. Best Buy..

i'm not pissed just was in kind of a bad mood before x]
but yeaaaa still

Yeah seriously I don't need negative feedback. I'm just asking for suggestions and if you don't have any solution theres absolutely no point why you should post an unhelpful comment.

Yeah I hate Galveston but friends make it fun, they distract me from the poo water hahah :)

Anyways, the bumper doesn't cover the back and honestly if i got case with a back then I wouldn't care. Its just the back scratches so freaking easy!

I just came back from a beach vacation and all I did was use a ziploc bag from the 99¢ store. It worked just fine. You wouldn't be able to hear your phone ring anyway. You might as well just leave it in your car. Honestly, I didn't use my phone much at the beach. I took three pictures when I first got there and a video clip and put my phone away for the remainder of my stay at the beach. I was too busy enjoying the beach and I advise you to do the same. Sometimes there are better things in life than being preoccupied by material things. If there's an emergency, flag down a lifeguard.

Oh I know, I'm going to be busy having fun! It's just a ton of sand gets into our bags. My friends 3GS got scratches on the back from the last time we went to the beach.

I am just sitting here shaking my head at her questionable logic. This kid wants to take care of her iPhone4 at the beach, but couldn’t care less about her personal safety.

She’s 16 and her immature little priorities are twisted. This is the same kid who foolishly posted her photo, her high school, her best friends’ photos, and her car and license plate number on MacRumors yesterday. I actually said a prayer for her, asking God to watch out for her. The Mods did a great job removing the license plate photo so quickly, but I know many saw it before the mod was able to remove it from her post.

We all know that every single MacRumors registered user is a fine, upstanding person. No way that a perv would lurk here, search her out, find out her name, wait for her at her school, watch for her car & license plate and do who knows what to her. No way he will visit Galveston Beach this weekend looking for her car.

Irresponsible? Of course her parents want to check up on her – she frequently shows bad judgment and immaturity. She wants to drive to Galveston, nearly 2 hours away, against her parents’ wishes. She has a “plan” - to have her new iPhone4 with her - so she can lie to her parents when they want check up on her.

But, no sir, she won’t have any scratches on her iPhone 4 from sand, because she is going to keep it in a Ziploc bag!

I live in Hawaii

And can tell u thieves break into cars constantly. Ur better off having phone with u on beach where all eyes r watching ur stuff. Same goes for trailhead parking on mainland! Freezer ziplock is best cheap solution or they make a waterproof case it's very bulky have fun!

1 ziploc bag is sufficient if you are careful. A little sand won't kill the phone. I go to the beach weekly and go on fishing trips with a simple ziploc bag. Will it save it from everything, no it won't, but it will suffice for a little water or sand that might hit the bag.

Yeah I know I never leave valuable stuff in my car. Thanks :)

Are we really at the point where we can't even go to the beach without our phones?

Well, to answer you, I'd need my phone with me. :)

This is simple, don't bring it, if your parents tell you they couldn't get through, you apologize and tell them you must have been holding it wrong. See, it's a FEATURE. :) (I'm just kidding, I actually have zero reception issues no matter how I hold it)

There's something called the aqua pack that would work well. Fairly cheap too.

The Motorola star tac was just a phone, if the ip4 was just a phone, it would be way cheaper, and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Last trip to the lake this was how useful my iphone was.... My words of wisdom leave it in the car maybe... 100+ degrees today and in the shade this is what my phone was telling me when i picked it up to check my email. In case of an emergency reach over and grab your friend cheaper phone and get to calling. If you must bring yours then just put it in a heavy duty ziploc bag and have fun. The bag has not failed me yet for preventing sand.

No sarcasm at all directed toward you. I am absolutely sincere that you are foolish and naive. I don't care whether you go to Galveston or the Schlitterbahn. My point is that I can't believe you have misplaced your priorities in caring more for your physical possessions than your personal safety.

Regardless of your opinions about how responsible you are, in two days you have managed to compromise your safety in a HUGE way.

What's the statistical probability that I know you? Zero.

What's the chance that I can find out everything about your name, address, etc through your school yearbook or Facebook or Twitter. 100%.

What's the chance I intend to do anything? Not a chance in hell. But what about the other thousands of MacRumors members and lurkers?

And what is the statistical probability of even one MacRumors member knowing where you live? Well, it's 100%. And I was surprised how easy it was.

I live in NY, but I have been to Houston many times. I have friends who live near Clay and Barker Cypress, I have shopped at Randalls and Walgreens at that corner many times. I have seen the longhorns grazing in the fields along Barker Cypress near the Katy Freeway (if another subdivision hasn't gone in since I was there.)

Don't you see that if I (as a totally disinterested party) could discover that about you, so could a predator?

You might be interested to know that my friends live precisely 11.8 miles from you.

Oprah says tighten your security.

When I left it in the car I got this message hahah so I don't want to leave it in there. My friend brought her iPhone last time and it didn't have this message after sitting in the sand under a towel for 6 hours straight.

Right now I am in Maui for vacation and today I spent all day at wailea beach and I just kept my phone in a towel in a bag if I wasn't browsing the web or something. Every time I come here & I'm at beaches or anything I just make sure it in a bag where no sand or anything get near it. I do have a screen protector & a case though.

I thought I was the only one the ziplocked my iPhone.

Hahah thanks for understanding :) Except Galveston is an hour away and my parents told me they think it's too far so yeah there's no way I can leave it at home :/

Heh, here is where I had it easier when I was a kid (cellphones were called car phones and had these huge boxes attached and in general only people in suits had them, not teens).

No "leash" that my parents could always contact me at.

I'm not sure my parents would get me a cellphone anyways honestly even if I grew up when many kids have them. They weren't the over protective type (or rather they were not the type to worry too much) and I see them seeing a cellphone as a luxury some kid didn't need (They may let me borrow their cellphone if I went on a long trip and that would be about it).
