How is everyone able to talk about their device's battery life as if they are doing the exact same thing with it each day? Unless you are doing a controlled experiment, you are using your phone differently from day to day.

I'm not. But I don't have internet at work and during downtime I use my iPhone for strictly 3G usage. Even if it's not completely accurate the fact is that I'm getting better usage now than I was getting 2 weeks ago with similar usage.

I'm not questioning your claim specifically, just used your post as an example. :)

Everyone does this, and on top of that, everyone uses their phones differently even if the settings are the same. I could say I get 12 hours of usage with my EVO, but 3 of those hours it might sit on my desk not being used. Everyone has a different idea of "usage".

I highly doubt anyone here can say that their phone will allow them to surf the web (at least one page load per minute) or chat on the phone with someone for 7 hours straight.

What I wished people would do who post is post usage stats for ONLY internet use for either 3G or wifi, which is what anjinha posted. IMO it’s what establishes how good your battery is and is what I do every time I check out an iPhone.

Lol alright.

I think it's time for you to wake up from your dream ;)

I think it’s time for you to get what Apple rates the iPhone 4 or take it back.

Not that a screen shot means anything. My rep on this site does though.

I would never get 7 hours just browsing with Wi-Fi. Not even 6 hours. I think my record has been 5 hours 30 minutes something...

I guess there´s lots of differences with the batteries. Some get a good battery, some not so good. :(

Anyway 5 hours is enough for me. It was enough with 3GS. Maybe with next iPhone I will have better luck with the battery...

Why are you just dealing with it? Take it back and get a new phone.

BTW, signal issues can play a big part in battery life. If your phone is always searching for a signal, the battery life will be diminished.

Not jailbroken and I restored it from backup, so should be exactly the same settings I had with 3GS. I checked also manually all the settings, that they are right.

Now it says usage 3h 13min, standby 21h = 40% left. This has included Wi-Fi interenet browsing in forums, mail, appstore, 15min Youtube, taking few photos and playing about 20-30min (playing I had the brightness 80%, normally it is 20%).

Could this have to do something with multitasking?

Looks normal to me considering you have 21 hours of standby.

Yes sure, if 5 hours is the max usage.

But some people claim to have 7 hours or more with Wi-Fi browsing.

Calling it a claim makes it sound like 10 hours or more on wifi is unusual. It's not. Look at the other battery threads or even consult the Apple battery life page, which states the 4 is rated for 10 hours wifi and 6 hours 3G surfing.

I'd DFU MODE restore and setup as new and take it back if the battery life doesn't improve.

Does leaving wifi and 3G on in standby consumes a lot of battery? Or any at all?

See my posts. As long as you're not surfing, it uses very little.

Actually I've been testing it for the last couple of hours. If I am in a good reception place, leave 3G on and left the phone on standby, it will consume about 1% in 30 min. Its not very little IMHO. If I am in a bad reception place and the phone keep losing and searching for signal, it takes about 10min to drain 1%. During browsing, it depends a lot on your brightness. I use 50% brightness and Auto off. I get about 3min/% surfing on wi-fi on good reception place. Another thing that drains up battery is SMS. typing a lot showed that can be very painful to my battery life. Now I got 5 hours of usage(30min of music, and the rest was browsing/ little play and texting) and 28 hours of sandby, and got 30% left. Not VERY happy as I was before...

It says up to. Apple doesn't make a concrete claim as they say 'up to'.

Mine drains pretty quick while just texting..

And its connected to WIFI and 3G is on. Location is OFF. PUSH is only on for Gmail

Well, my 3G got pretty much the rated battery life, and I've seen plenty of posts on here where members get the rated battery life.

FYI, my 3G got 5-6 only surfing on 3G, and 10 on wifi.

@vslo: your battery looks bad IMO.

When you see sale 'up to 50% off' it doesn't mean you'll get 50% off.

Actually I think its fine. It really depends on where you are and The dignam strenght on where you are. Search for dignam really hurt The battery life. I got The phone for 2 weeks now. Im used To get around 7 hours of usage and 48 hours of standby.
