I got my iPhone 4 just recently and have been rather pelased with the battery life so far - not fantastic but not too bad either, until today that is. Usually I charge it overnight and take it off when I go to work in the morning around 8, and with mostly minor use it is still around 50-70% that night. However I took it off the charger this morning at 8, and it died on me during a short call this evening. I don't know what I might have done that caused this, but I will be keeping an eye on it for a while.

I guess that was supposed to be cute? Your analogy has nothing to do with the reality here, but you just go ahead and keep thinking you know more about the iPhone than me.

It's reality you don't want to deal with.

It says up to XYZ hours, what part of 'up to' don't you understand?

Up to 7 hours doesn't mean you will get 7 hours.

I don’t care that it says "up to.” That’s your hangup. The reality is that most people get the battery life that is stated by Apple, whether it says “up to” or not. Try reading some threads on here, before you try to argue with me about things you don’t know crap about. I’ll let others tell you how silly you look from here on, because I’m tired of wasting my time with you.

I'm sorry if this question has been asked already but does being in areas with poor reception take a tougher toll on the iPhone 4 battery? I spend the majority of the day with no service to 1 bar of 3G and my phones battery seems to drain much quicker. Is there any explanation for this?

This is the problem. Why is it a problem? Because you are saying that people should get what the 'up to' life is when in reality it's only an 'up to'. The reality is people will think that there's something wrong with their battery life if they are not getting.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

Apple states up to 10 hours of Internet on wifi. This doesn't mean that you will in reality get 10 hrs! When you which you are present it this way people will think there's something wrong cause they are not getting 10 hrs of Internet on wifi.

If Apple said: Internet usage on wifi 10 hrs them that's a different story cause they are claiming that one should get 10 hrs.

Again when a sale says up to 50% off it doesn't mean you'll get 50% off cause the statement says up to 50% off.

Me: 'I'm not getting the 10hrs of battery on Internet on wifi'

Apple: 'sir we don't say you should get 10 hrs, we say up to 10 hrs'

Me: 'I'm getting 7 hrs though not the 10 hrs'

Apple: 'again sir we don't claim that you should be getting 10 hrs but up to 10 hrs. As there are factors involved'. Depending on the speed of the wifi and the like 7 hrs of usage on wifi seems reasonable. But if you are still not satisfied we can make an appointment at the genius bar to scan your device and it will tell us if you have a faulty battery'.

What part of 'up to' don't you understand?

You'll be sending OCD people into s panic cause you are claiming that they should be getting 10 hrs of Internet on wifi which isn't so concrete and cut and dry.

aggie why don't you post your settings for us to see what stuff is set to here.

Like it appears as there is two different kinds of batteries going around in this device, as some people show great results while others are just whatever..

I can get 5-6hours usage, but about 13hours standby. And my usage involves mostly texting and some calls, and perhaps downloading a APP or two..

I took it off the charger at about 9:30 this morning, and with light use it is now down to 22%. I have done a hard reset and put it back on the charger for a while to see if it makes any difference.

No, the 3G is not off. I just don’t surf on 3G while I have wifi available.

I really don’t care what you believe.

Unless your plugging it in, there is no way. Its rated at 10 hours for wifi browsing. And that's with 0 standby time. So unless you've plugging it in or have an external battery, you are mistaken about your usage.

Or...He has a super iPhone!

I barely get 5 hours of usage and 2 days of standby, is this normal for iPhone 4? This is by just just checking mails and browsing the internet with Wi-Fi.

Mine was about 3 hours of usage / 1 day of standby and my genius stated my battery was "normal." No 3g/edge, airplane mode, wifi only when using in dorm, light webbrowsing, mail with manual, 50% auto, no skype, 3 push apps

So you might have some difficulty replacing yours.

What I do know is that I get much better battery life on my Iphone 4 when I turn off all running applications at the bottom of my screen by double clicking on that home button and turning off the unnecessary running applications. Skype,Beejive,Mail, and anything that is constantly updating or checking helps cut back on battery life.

Yeah, I must not be looking at my usage right. I’m just an idiot when it comes to this complicated iPhone. I’m glad we’ve got you experts to help us all out.

My car can go up to 120 miles an hour max. But sometimes I do 150. Right? According to you your getting more battery life than apples MAX. Wouldn't apple say 12 hours wifi browsing AND 48 hours of standby if it could do that? Why would they say a number lower than a max. Only way I could see you ever getting that usage is by either plugging it in, or running on 0% brightness and only loading a new page every 10 mins.

That's not how it works. Standby time is all the time since the iPhone has been awake INCLUDING usage time.

Standby is not usage. Standby is when nothing is happening. The phone is rated at 300 hours standby, which would imply no usage at all. No cell or data sent or received. Usually their standby rating is with the phone on, but in sleep mood.

Nope. Standby time is ALL the time the iPhone is on, whether it's being used or in sleep mode.

EDIT: Try it yourself if you don't believe me. Check your standby time and then start playing a game or something: both usage and standby time will go up.

anjinha is right. iPhone measures standby time as long as the phone is on.

If you charge your phone.. and start using it right away watch your standby time = your usage time.
