Really? What a joke. I got my free one and I regret not choosing a free case from one of the other manufacturers. There's no way in hell that I can understand how Apple feels it's alright to charge $29 for this piece of garbage. (BTW, not a troll! I love everything I've ever purchased from Steve, but this is one item I think needs to DISAPPEAR. Or be sold for $2.25.)

+1000

Completely agree; it also prevtented the use of two of my car adapters.

Finally ditched it for an encase one which was even more of a ripoff but eons better.

Why all the shock at the $29 price? That was its original price. Then it was free, and now it's back to its original price.

Astounding how many business experts hang out here to tell us why Apple doesn't know what it's doing. Grateful for you spending your time here instead of running your business.

Is it hard for you to type with Jobs' c*ck up your a**?

eBay is your friend. If you don't want to pay so much, buy them off of eBay. If you dont like it, sell it! I actually like the bumper but think that the price is too expensive. I'm not gonna complain about how expensive it is and how I hate Apple just because of that. They did refund the money i paid for my pink bumper so im happy. In the end, there are people that buy them for that price and guess who's not complaining? Apple. They're making money so life's good :)

Kinda funny how they still show pictures of the bumpers on the WHITE iPhone even though it is STILL not available.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the pictures - where is the white iPhone? I'm holding off buying one until then!

Nope. The problem was never with the phone's antenna. At least not on a wholesale 'design defect' level. As evidenced by the lack of mass issue outside of the US, Consumer Reports calling out 'weak coverage areas' and so on

The issue was and remains ATT being unable to expand to meet the demands of millions of new phones smashing into the network.

[...]

Actually the issue was the media. They are the ones that were screaming 'major design defect' even after several engineers vetted the testing, the performance etc.
While I do think the media jumped on this a bit over aggressively, the problem is very real. I'm actually amazed by how strong the effect is-- I don't think it affects me while holding the phone to talk (I'm right handed) but when holding in my left hand to manipulate items on the screen I typically lose service entirely even in areas where I have 3 bars when holding the phone gingerly, or laying it on the table.

I really don't think it can be argued any longer that this isn't a problem. Too many people have seen it, Apple has acknowledged it, the physics make sense-- there's not much room to claim it's purely a figment of the media's imagination.

No different than most of these products, really ...

I remember trying to buy a rubber case for my classic iPod years ago at Best Buy. Every single cheap rubber "condom" case they had there was $24.95 or more!

I think this pricing is a rip-off, sure .... but it's standard practice to overcharge for this stuff. Apple's not really "out of line" compared to most of the name-brand 3rd. party options.

What I find ironic is that the bumper, which has an opening for the dock connector, prevents inserting the phone into the Apple iPhone4 dock.

I'm giving the phone a shot without the bumper for a while. I did some experimenting and found that the bumper doesn't really help mitigate the problem much.

Regarding price-- Apple has found $30 to be the sweet spot in accessory pricing. Doesn't matter what it costs to make, that's apparently the break point where their customers are willing to buy impulsively.

re: greedy bastards!

I agree.... those greedy bastards at Apple made a phone that's pretty much universally considered #1 in usability and popularity, and THEN had the audacity to sell it bundled with EXPENSIVE wireless plans that charge extra just for a text messaging package, extra again to tether the thing, and STILL put monthly usage caps on the data! Plus, for a long time, they didn't even let you send MMS messages at all! Oh, wait ... which greedy bastards are we talking about again?

Greedy bastards at Apple.

"Our product is flawed and the service sucks ass, but if you want to use it you have to pay us money NOW....oops! Too late! ...Now you have to pay us even MORE money, and keep paying once each bumper wears out."

Put up or shut up

For everyone who has posted that the $29 price is too high, please go start your own iPhone bumper company. Sell a similar product for $28, or whatever you think a fair price is (presumably less than $29). Then either keep all the money you make, or give it to charity.

I switch between my Bumper and my iSkin solo. I really like the Bumper, but I'd have to think for a while before paying $29 for it. I think $19 would have been a more reasonable price.

Yes, I know that they announced the price as $29 way back before the summer, so no shock here.

If Apple wants to charge $29 for it, that's their choice. It's your choice if you want to buy it or one of the many other options available.

I personally like the bumper. If you've got good hands and you're not clumsy, you won't have a problem. I hate cases. I love the natural feel of the iPhone. I've had every generation. The bumper is small enough for me to handle. If you bust the back glass, you can get it replaced at the Apple Store for around $30. I was told that by a Genius. They are overpriced, but what I don't understand is price conscious Apple users. If you're going to be cheap, Apple isn't for you.

I like my bumper, but to start selling one now, without the inherent problem being fixed is total BS! Shame Shame Shame Apple!

You've got to be kidding. At this point, if you have an iPhone 4, you fall into one of two categories:

1. Those who have an antenna issue -- For you the bumper is still free.

2. Those who do not have an antenna issue -- For you the free market says buy whatever case you want. It's your choice.

So what's the problem?

but what I don't understand is price conscious Apple users.

I think in many cases it's the expectation society, not price consciousness. Apple gave it out free for a while, waaaaaaa! I want my free bumper!!!! I should get it free!!!! Where's miiiiiiiine!!!!!

And then we wonder when society goes downhill.

They aren't holding strong to that Sept 30th date. My iphone 4 got stolen last friday, I bought a new one on Tuesday night (Oct 5), and the free case program app was still there. They shipped my free bumper yesterday.

Of course. If you can't get a free bumper from Apple, you're not trying. Despite all the whining here about the price, the price is free if you tell a story to Apple.

Remarkable to me to see how many posters here know more about business pricing than Apple. How will Apple ever be successful while overpricing their merchandise? If only they would listen to MacRumors posters instead of making mistake after mistake after mistake.

How am I not surprised this thread is filled with fan boys defending not only a defective badly designed phone, but apple gouging people for bumpers too.

A) Because it's a very nicely designed phone with great advantages, along with a design flaw as part of that design that affects some users. But if you want to hate against Apple, the media gave you a free ride to do so by hyping this beyond all reason. Fortunately, it had no impact on iPhone sales.

B) Most people in here are hating on Apple for the bumper price, so you must mean people such as myself. But since I said I thought the bumper price was too high, perhaps you miss why I'm defending Apple in this case. It's quite simple: I support a free market system. Do you?

Why is everybody mad? Nothing has changed about the bumpers since they were announced back in June with iPhone. However, maybe now this will bring down the prices some were going for on eBay.

The price is a bit steep but so is everything else. I had no problem with my iPhone 4 whatsoever and I got a refund for a bumper I bought before getting the phone and a free one from the program. So everything worked perfectly on apples end. Has for other cases I think the bumper style cases are better than the full ones for the iPhone 4 because ir does heat up at the back and the dirt etc grinding against the back glass doesnt sound healthy. I use a black bumper and a full invisible shield on mine. Im happy with it. Pisses me off that the bumper doesnt work with earlier cables. But i understand that it envelope more of the phone this way. I filled one of the bumpers down carefully with a power tool to use the earlier cables with, so everythings dandy for me now.
Overall the bumper is a good case imo but it could be a bit cheaper.
P.s. Also hate that its not compatible with the Dock.
