This phone is simply too nice to put a case on. I've had a case on my 3G and 3GS, but never on the original, not on this one either. Simply too enjoyable to hold. Not going to ruin the all glass, disappearing phone look with a frigging rubber.

Personally I feel if a mobile device needs a cover to be safely used in mobility than the design is unresolved.

Well to al ot of people a scratch or scuff is a lot more distracting and disheartening than a case. Sacrifice.

I got my bumper delivered on the 24th. I got the black one. I actually like it except my older USB cables for syncing or that I use in my car to hook up to my stereo won't work as they won't go in all the way. I also use a ZAGG protective screen on front and back.
I feel like my phone is fairly protected.
$29 for it is VERY steep though.
Oh well...

It also prevents the iphone from docking with the new dock - if you bought one.

Bumber Question

Hey Small White Car, How does the bumpers keep the phone off the table ? by looking at the pictures it seems to just wrap itself around the silver band.

I got the black bumper just to try it, but I wasn't planning on liking it.

I've been surprised to find that I actually like it! And I can tell it's keeping my phone off the table when I set it down. The rubber 'thunk' sound as it hits the surface is somewhat pleasing.

But I'll probably stick with black. None of these colors is really doing it for me. If someone else rips off Apple's design but makes dark blue or maroon ones, well I'd think about that, then.

"DESIENED FOR iPhone 4."
I hope their product is better than their spelling.

Don't buy it then if that bothers you... they have an adhesive back... I had one for my iPad... although a bugger to line up on an ipad as quite a big piece of adhesive (you can reapply it though if you bodge it)

Is the adhesive strong enough to stay on? I don't want this thing peeling off from me taking it in and out of my pocket. Than again will the adhesive damage the glass on the back?

Look at the buttons on these cases.

Here's where they're really located on the side of the phone:

Now notice how low they are on the bamboo case:

The volume buttons are in the right position on the Ballistic case, but the mute button is covered:

What's up with this?

The bumper has it's own set of buttons, which press the buttons underneath the rubber when you press on them. That is why they look different from the bamboo case.

Griffin case

I just bought a WHITE Griffin Reveal case at Best Buy. Looks great (just like a "Bumper" case), though the volume buttons & on/sleep switch are covered. It barely adds heft to the phone & has wonderful protection with a clear plastic on the back (attached to case) yet maintains the classy look of the phone itself. I think (& hope) that the front glass will be durable enough to not scratch.

Apple Bumpers Too Slippery

The Apple Bumper case has a polished strip all around the edge which provides virtually no grip at all. I took some fine grit sandpaper and sanded the polished edge down a bit. Now it provides the grip it should.

$30, and I have to perform manual labor on it with sandpaper to get the grip it should have in the first place.

I got the black bumper yesterday. I wasn't expecting much, I was just thinking some fancy rubber band thing but was very pleasantly surprised on how nice and firm it feels, metal buttons, it even seems to have a thing metal ridge imbibed in the rubber b/c it's firm even when not on the iPhone. Granted I still thing $29 is a bit steep and a bit gouging, after all it's not TOTAL protection. I still am planning on getting a Zagg shield for the front/back to prevent scratches when the phone's in my pocket (which is typically where I care it on the go). :)

The bamboo case shown is just a mockup they made based on leaked photos from gizmodo with the phone shopped in. the production model will have all the button holes in the right place.

The Power Support Crystal Film (not the anti-glare one that the Apple Store still sells) is the BEST! I read somewhere that the Apple Store was going to stop carrying it due to it implying that the screen is easily scratched. Seems to be true, they only carry the "anti-glare" one and I haven't seen it marketed for the 4G yet--just had to Ebay a set for my 3GS.

My car hookup won't fit, either. I'm trying to decide if I'll keep the $29 band or return it (14 days to decide) and get something else. In the mean time, it provides some form of protection and possibly prevents dropped calls , which I felt was important enough.

"Old style" Apple iPhone/iPod USB cables don't fit the Bumper case as the plastic surround of the iPhone connector is too big for the slot in the Bumper case so you can't plug the connector in with the case on.

At some stage Apple reduced the length and height of the plastic around the iPod connector on their USB cable. The USB cable that ships with the iPhone 4 fits into the Bumper case but older cables don't. 3rd party cables & accessories may also have the same issue.

Given the iPhone needs frequent recharging, I had 3 old-style cables at home, at work and on the road and none of them fit into the Bumper case.

So it is either buy new cables, take the case off to charge & sync the phone or the Bumper case goes under the knife to widen the slot...

I hope 3rd party case suppliers aren't as dumb...
