i got my black bumper case from Manchester Apple store, i have to say £25 is way over the top for what it is. i don't really know how this is meant to protect your phone if anyone knows please let me know. lol.
Most of the time, a drop is onto a fairly flat surface. IF the iPhone hits on an edge, the case supposedly cushions the edges, since it covers the edges, with both rigid plastic, and elastic rubber.
even if the iPhone hits Flat, which is unlikely, the raised edge doesn't let the phone rest on it's flat front or back, it rests on the "raised" edge of the surrounding case. It also keeps the phone from abraision if it slides or is dragged across a surface, by the same raised edge keeping the glass suspended above the surface.
The only thing that would not be protected, is if the phone comes in contact with a convex, pointed, or edge-corner with the phone's glass front or back surface. Unless you are dropping it on a spike, or dropping something sharp on the phone, that isn't entirely likely, and would likely defeat most other cases and most other phones, as well, and becomes a replacement event in most circumstances, even with other comparable touchscreen phones.
But there are plenty of other cases coming out if you wish to have more front and back surface protection.
I don't see the appeal of cases either.
It's like buying a brand new Porsche and driving it around with some type of car cover on it ...
No, it is like buying a brand new Porsche, and putting the Porsche OEM stone guards on the wheel wells to protect the bodywork from stones being flung by the tires, clear-bra to prevent stone chips from other cars, and a good hard coat of wax or sealant to protect the paint.
Unlike the Apple, though, touching the bodywork or even normally gripping the steering wheel, won't kill the engine's ignition system, grinding normal function to a halt.
