You can just go into Video mode and turn the flash on. Don't need an extra app for that.

Cool idea though.

What's the point? You can just open the camera app, switch to video mode and turn the light on.

You can just go to video recording and turn the LED to ON also

But can you just go into the camera app, go to video, and turn the light on from there???

:p

"Power Light" will have the following advantages over the built in Camera app:
1. One touch. Just tap the icon and the light will automatically turn on. One touch flashlight. Otherwise, it's three steps and 10 seconds of messing around with settings.
2. No view finder means less battery usage
3. Auto-off feature ensures you never leave it on for too long
4. Screen Light. Same as current flashlight apps that turns your screen white and disables the dim timer.

Ignore the nay-sayers. I'd buy this. :)

cant you just go into camera and put it on video? I thought the flash will stay on for video recording

edit: beat to it

Just made an account to reply to this thread!

Would love to test this, would be happy to UDID.

Why is it bad to give out your UDID? Is there anything they can do with it? Just wondering because I have no idea.

THey could spoof your UDID on their jailbroken hacked device, to try and 'incriminate' you for pirating apps I guess, or something like that. But not much else probably.

I'll help you out with this... I was thinking of the same thing last night while playing around with the camera in low light. Alas, I'm no app developer so I'd be happy to test yours.

You'll either make thousands, or someone's going to beat you to the punch with their Flashlight app. In either case, you're a MacRumors member, so I'll buy yours.

Add a sound effect!!!!!!

If I may add a suggestion, add a cool sound effect as the light comes on, like maybe a light saber. Have the option to disable the sound, but I think it would be cool.

Hey guys,

We've been working on a little hack to turn the camera flash on the iPhone 4 into a quick and convenient Flashlight. Here's a YouTube video:

If you have an iPhone 4 and would like to try it, please reply in this thread.

Thanks,

Sherwin

Thanks!
Btw, I wrote a similar app for the Motorola Q years ago called Pocket Light, in case anyone remembers.

I'd be interested in this app, however, as an honest opinion, I wouldn't pay for it. Your best bet would be to use iAd to put an ad in the app. The app would just be too simple to justify charging, but screen real estate isn't as precious for an app like this, so adding an ad to it wouldn't bother anyone I don't think.

By the way, since no one mentioned it yet, you can go to the camera app, then switch to video and turn the flash on there. :D
