Got my iPhone 4 yesterday and notice this happening. (mostly because I had less than 5 bars in my apartment.) I tried it again today and brought my signal down to 1 bar and called my work. The call quality was great no cutting in and out or anything. I know Apple said it's a bug in iOS 4. And I think I may have to believe them.
Test it for yourself don't just take the bars going down as a sign you don't have signal. Try browsing the Internet and making a call.![]()
So couldnt this just be a Ios4 issue. People are saying they can do this on their 3gs and 3g too but other say they cant. Probably the ones that cant are still on 3.x
Someone needs an atlas...

So it's Apple stock that matters the most to you, not best user experience.![]()
I don't know how many times this needs to be posted, but here it is again. Use a nonmetallic case or bumpers and you have no problem.
Tried this earlier in the morning just to be silly. Problem persisted. Can some one try to cover the metal rim all the way around with a pice of tape and see if it still happens.
and can you make it happen if you only touch either top or bottom antenea, with / with out tape
this will tell us
1) has it to do with short circuit
2) has it to do with covering one / both anteneas (with no direckt contackt)

Use a nonmetallic case or bumpers and you have no problem. This unit is made of glass, reasonably tough glass, not unbreakable glass but tough glass. Anyone not using a case or at least bumpers is cruising for a great disappointment. So a case solves two possible problems.
It took me almost 30 seconds last night to figure this out, and I do not consider myself the cleverest person on the earth. All the ranting on threads like this are a waste of time and bandwidth.![]()
Or he moved and didn't bother updating his forum profile?Maybe the Southeast part of Denver???
WiFi and Bluetooth are disabled on my phone. I'm in a very strong signal area right now. Problem persists.I was able to reproduce the dropped bars while holding the bottom corner.
HOWEVER, for me, turning OFF wi-fi fixed the issue and I lost no bars. So it's an issue with wi-fi (both antennas) enabled.
