I have updated my iPhone 4 with iOS 7 and the result is great!

One must remember that the iPhone 4 is over three years old now, but never the less iOS 7 is running great. I have no regrets updating.

Some actions takes a little longer to be performed, but that was also happening for me running iOS 6 on my iPhone 4. In my oppinion iOS 7 has a great feel to it.

When the new iPhone 5S is available here in Denmark I will be buying it though. For me it is time to get some new hardware and power under the hood.

Bottom line... If you have any doubts updating your iPhone 4 with the new iOS 7 I will say 'Do It'. No regrets from my side :)

Fine!! :)

Just updated my iPhone 4 - standard update.
Initial lag during syncing etc, but settled down immediately.
Lags when you open anything for the first time, but thereafter totally fine.
Thanks Apple. Totally happy :)

It's kind of sad how the iPhone 4 owners don't even realize their device is slow, kind of like how someone who's never driven a luxury car thinks their Corolla is really nice.

I agree, liking it so far and was hesitant at first but thought sod it!

Yes it's a little laggy in places but I for one don't regret it one bit. iOS now looks modern and no longer drab and dull..

This can only be a positive move and will improve as updates roll out to us. I'm sure all OS updates start a little flaky and improve.

I'm noticing two things, wifi is no longer not connecting to an access point after being asleep (admittedly haven't been home to test that too where I experienced this)

Secondly wifi signal strength when connected seems much better so far!

Overall I'm impressed so far!

I haven't had any problems so far with the wifi after the iPhone being asleep, but I will have it in mind the next couple of days.

Generally, all new things needs some get used to. The new iOS 7 included.

I too updated my iphone 4 to OS7 after resetting to a new iphone. It took about an hour overall. I use a Nokia for my regular phone so I figured I had nothing to lose if it was buggy and slow.

Although I was worried about killing the phone, I am pleasantly surprised how smoothly it runs. I think it is a bit, and I do mean a bit slower, but everything seems to work very well. I don't get all the optical tricks with the icons and wall papers that a 5 will get, but I think that is an advantage for a 4, as it doesn't bog down an older chip.

However, I will say esthetically I think the icons make the phone look very cartoon like and, as mentioned elsewhere, for a someone in the business world, I think the phone is now very childish looking, but that is just my opinion. It's fine for my inner soccer mom.

I'd say that I am glad I updated and may have to make this my main phone again.

I did a ota update from 6.1.3 to 7.0 first, and it was slow and laggy. However, people in this forum suggested to do a clean installation, so, I clean installed the iOS from the .ipsw file. Now, it is smooth and fast, maybe even better than when I had it with 6.1.3.
I suggest that if you wanna upgrade to iOS 7, do a clean installation, otherwise, you will feel laggy and slow.

Beautiful

I updated my iPhone 4 to IOS 7 this morning and its running better than IOS 6 ever did everything is so smooth and IOS 7 is just so beautiful.

The way i updated was to connect my iPhone to iTunes and do a backup first, then i removed all my music and photos so i had plenty of HDD space for the update plus it gave IOS 7 a chance to just install and run without having to index my data. People have been complaning on the forums about lag and i have read that IOS 7 needs to index files so it will be slower at first. Anyway i now have IOS 7 running on my iPhone 4 and its running so smoothly IOS 7 rocks. :D

I suggest turning on "Increase Contrast" under the Accessibility settings to reduce lag via transparencies.
iP4 doesn't have any hardcore transparency. Most of it is just reduced opacity without a blur. I can't imagine that would make much difference.

Agreed! I've been using it every day on my iPhone 4 since Beta 1. It has gotten consistently better with every release. When I got the GM last week, the improvement was shocking. I love iOS 7 on my 4! The lag I've experienced was there in iOS 6, too, and in some cases 7 has made it better. (I.e., when typing a message in iOS 6, it lagged behind my fingers. iOS 7 doesn't do that.) FWIW, I did OTA upgrades from Beta 1-6, then did a complete restore to GM last week (and restored my stuff from iCloud backup).

Don't worry — I have no unrealistic expectations here. The simple fact is that the iPhone 4 build of iOS 7 has reduced UI fanciness, and in my experience runs as well as if not better than iOS 6 on the same device. My 3-year-old device feels like a brand new phone, even if it doesn't look as nice as a 4S or better.

All this said, I'm totally buying the 5S as soon as I make up my mind about which carrier I want. AT&T contract is up, and I'm definitely not sticking with them. Those *******s charged me a $300 cancellation fee on my father's line when he passed away.

Slow and laggy on my iphone 4. Especially switching between numbers and letters while typing.

Overall EVERYTHING seems slow and laggy.

ios7 on my ipad 2 makes safari very fast, not so much on the iphone. Pages take way too long to load.

I did also experience the problem with typing a message in iOS 6. The letters lagged behind. I haven't noticed this running iOS 7.

iOS 7 on iPhone 4: Flippin' wonderful

First caveat: I did a clean install, wiping the phone and installing iOS 7 from scratch. Then I restored the phone from my iCloud backup.

My well-used, three-year-old 32GB iPhone 4 is fully-stuffed with apps and data, and Apple's servers have been a tad busy, so the restore process took overnight. So my second caveat is: Be patient. For me, the process was painless.

I'd read from others that iOS 7 was too taxing for the ancient iPhone 4 and its three-year-old A4 processor. Well, maybe so, but so far I'm seeing nothing of the lagginess and slowness that others have complained about. If anything, it may be a little snappier than iOS 6. Perhaps the overnight install helped-- if Spotlight indexing or some other background setup process contributes to the impression folks have had, it ran its course while I was asleep.

My impression at this moment is entirely positive. The transitions are smooth, the usability is improved, multitasking is more intuitive, the capacious new folders are WONDERFUL, and yes: Safari is snappier. And I'm already discovering new details and tweaks that will facilitate my use of the phone.

Now, your mileage may vary, and time will tell if my positive impression holds over the weeks until I upgrade to a 5S. But meanwhile, my hat is off to Apple for breathing new life into my trusty digital companion.

It's rare that I can read a positive post that I genuinely enjoy reading. :) That said I've been loving iOS 7 from day 1. It's an amazing leap forward from iOS 6!

Just finished watching my neighbor set up his iphone 4 with OS7. He's very happy. No complaints on speed and lots of smiles checking out the new stuff.

Glad to hear it went well for you too.
My first install on my iP4 was to do an update of the current system and reset my settings. It worked but it was real flakey. For instance when I set up a alphanumeric password it never asked me to retype it. Typing overall was sluggish and other things just seemed wrong.
So then I did a fresh install and started from scratch. It was kind of cathartic anyway since I had a lot of rubbish.
Now the phone is running every bit as well as it did on 6. If it stays this way I'll be very happy.
I still think the animations need to be adjusted.

I installed it on mine last night via the OTA option. It's definitely usable but quite laggy and choppy. How do I do a fresh install that you mentioned?

Thanks.

I plugged mine in and in iTunes hit restore. Then chose "Set up as New" when I was given the option.

I updated my Mom's iPhone 4 and it seems to be running pretty good. I would say that it's running the same as iOS 6 did, maybe even slightly better. She loves it.
