Did it for my moms iPhone 4. Now it runs like a prepaid android phone! Junk! Shouldn't even imcluded this update for 4

So I can confirm what I suspected. There is no difference in performance and battery life from iOS6 to iOS7 for me. In fact the issues I had with some typing lag etc in iOS6 are the same issues I have with iOS7. So performance wise no problems. * I did a new factory install then restore from backup btw.

Now that I've had a while to explore iOS7 I have to say IMO it's not that great. I really like the icons and new features in the settings app and other iOS7 Apple apps but the UX between the app UI (even iOS Apple apps) and the system UI seems unpolished and sometimes even feels broken. Sometimes the various menus blend into each other and I often miss other menu options because everything has become white.

While the new features and options of the iOS7 settings app and iOS7 Apple apps are great, there are lots of details that I think make the iOS7 UI unintuitive.

It's odd. I feel like the new app options and system settings are awesome but there's something lacking in the UX.

I think iOS7 needs quite a lot of cleaning up. Just my 2円

Maybe I need to get used to iOS7 more and on a fast iPhone 5/5s?

Probably the people with an iPhone 4 who are bitching like little girls should have erased the phone, restore to factory settings, then updated to iOS 7. I did that and it's fantastic. Granted it doesn't run as fast and smooth as an iPhone 5 but I realize that it's a 3 year old phone getting the latest iOS version.

So people, be at least thankful that the iPhone 4 got iOS 7, unlike that so called open source OS called Android, where a 3 year old phone can't get 4.1 or 4.2 or 4.3.

It works better than I ever expected. Same performance as in iOS 6. So yeah, it stutters a little sometimes, but extremely workable and looks fantastic. I'll definitely hold out until the iPhone 6 now.

I have a 4S, which I know is faster than a 4, but same overall experience here: iOS 7 equivalent to iOS 6; I don't notice any performance degradation in regular and even stressed use. I was going to get a 5S though in theory I prefer to wait for whole number releases because of, minimally, the gee whiz points of a new or greatly revised form factor -- yeah, like I did with the 4S; but my 4 was stolen so I have an excuse on that one. But I've got this Speck 4S case with the PRC flag on it, a case that still has a year of rugged use left in it. I didn't get in China. I got it here. I'm not sure it was ever intended to be sold in the States, but I found it for a few dollars in a discount store and the irony of an iPhone in a case with the PRC flag on it is just too much to let go quite yet. Besides, I like the uniform materials of the 4 and 4S. Glass front and glass back. I know, I'm going to have to give that up at some point but I'd rather not for another year.

My general policy on Apple upgrades, if you can at all wait, do so. The new model may not be much better, aesthetically or technically, but it's highly unlikely that it'll be any worse. And if you like toting around the latest and greatest form factor, it's hard already to tell a 4 from a 5 unless you look for the Lightning connector. That won't change much if any for the 5S, unless it's a gold and you'll have to wait for that and you'll likely stick it in a case, anyway. So if you wanna be all fly and stuff -- and really, who doesn't -- and you have a 4 or 4S, by all means starve Apple's annual revenue and wait the iPhone 6.

P.S.: I did an over-the-air update and still there are no performance issues. As far as I can tell there's not much to delta in the iOS 7 update; it's pretty much the whole OS whether it's OTA or via wire + iTunes.

If you already can't find things in iOS 7, I'd think faster would make that worse.

I put iOS 7 on my old iPhone 4 and if anything it works a little better than iOS 6 as far as performance goes.

I just downgraded my new iPhone 4s that came with iOS 7 - after getting the free iWork apps, that is. :D

I'm so happy I could downgrade! iOS 6 immediately made me smile. And there ARE differences in speed, too. Loading speed, not animation speed. Plus, I noticed there are a few hundred MB of additional free space.

I wholeheartedly reccomend this downgrade to anyone. But you better hurry, or it may be too late...

Just downgraded my 4 from 7.0 to 6.1.3, now it feels like warp speed:cool:

And it looks so much better! Glad you made it in time.

Yet I feel sorry for all those users who soon will be forced to involuntarily use iOS 7 with no way of turning back.

What's the advantage of a clean install as opposed to updating OTA?

Maybe none, if you're lucky.

But if there's any cruft in your machine (and this applies to all manners of computers, not just iDevices), a clean install does what it says on the tin, and all prior clutter is wiped away.

A clean install is not always needed, as the testaments of those without upgrade problems shows. And it is a bit of a PITA (another comment applying to all manners of computers). But it ensures an optimal experience once all is said and done.

Doing it right now on my Mum's iPhone 4 - I'll let you know in an hour how it turned out!

I have an iPhone 4 and just upgraded. It's very laggy. I experience significant lag when typing a single letter on the keyboard. Takes a few seconds for the letter to actually show up. It's not really functional anymore.

I came here looking for an entire thread on this topic. Both my phone and my wife's phone had this problem after upgrading.

After some use, my phone no longer has the typing lag, but sadly I'm not sure what I did to fix it. Was hoping someone else had the problem and figured out what they did to fix it.

A 4 and two 4S's in our house. So far the 4 has pretty bad response in comparison to iOS6 but no battery issues at least. The 4S has decent response but terrible battery drain. I'm the lone holdout as I like the 3D look of iOS6 and I don't mind waiting for Apple to fix all these problems.

Wife may go back to iOS6 as she really misses the Apple Maps green roadsigns.

Hi guys I have this problem in iphone4-ios7. Turn-off your wifi or set your phone to airplane mode. Go to Settings-General-Usage...then check the word "ICLOUD" is out of line. please check yours if you have the same problem...Thanks!

What do they look like now ... can you screen cap?

My iPhone 4 is running it just fine. To me it's not noticeably slower than iOS 6. The only thing that seems to be missing since iOS 6 is the weather in the Notification Centre. Not sure why that's been left out. The only difference between NC weather from iOS 6 to 7 is that in 7 it's represented by text only. How did that not make it to the iPhone 4??

But yeah, I'm loving iOS 7 on my 4. I'm surprised it's running as well as it is. Also, just FYI, I did a straight OTA update.

The Ars article is one big reason I hesitated.

But, it works fine. The overnight "burn in" might have helped my impression. Leave your phone alone on the charger for some hours so Spotlight can finish indexing, etc. Maybe that'll help?

No, the stuttering is still there. But I would have to say it's only noticeable to the critical eye. Otherwise, it really has no effect on the performance or functionality. By the way are you running an AT&T or Verizon (CDMA) phone?
