iPhone 4 lost to EVO on CNET prizefight...

and the ONLY reason it lost was because of the phone part.
i wonder how apple feels...they touted the new antenna design as a feat of brilliant engineering. it's actually the phones Achilles heel.

lol, ummm....I think that's the most important part, we are talking about PHONES here. If I want something to download great apps, I'll get an iPod Touch.

The Evo wins... Almost every real news letter/tech journal has already stated that the Evo is better than the iphone 4, so this is no surprise to me... Having used both for long periods of time, the evo is a neuter phone/all in one over all... The iphone 4 does many great things and some even better than the Evo, BUT the Evo just does way more.... So yea the Evo wins, and yes I already knew this as I ditched the 3gs and went Android a while ago... Iphones are great, but this one was dated upon release which has never been the case. Shame on them for this, I wanted the higher camera, the radio, the kick stand, the hdmi out, the 4G, etc... Apple wouldn't give me the latest & greatest, so I went Evo... There was a free 30 trial, so I did it, I can't even remember why I lived with such restrictions for so long... Goodbye Apple, Hello Htc.... Evo
Longest run-on sentence ever.

Well, if you don't mind:
Massive Size
Battery Hogging
Ungrounded Screens
Screens which Fall Off

Yea, it's great. Oh, hope you like paying a $10/mo premium just to own an EVO AND if you like to use it as a Wi-Fi hot spot, that will cost you $30/month extra too. To each their own taste.
Posts like this are phony for the simple fact that if the iPhone had the same size screen people would be all over it. Screens that fall off ???? how about gorilla glass that isn't really gorilla glass. Battery hogging isn't a big deal because you can pop in another battery. A revolutionary antenna system that doesn't like to be touched. Last but not least faux multitasking.

Doesn't make any difference to me. My opinion is what matters when deciding what I want think is best and what I want to use.

Yeah lets go out and buy another extended battery for 40 bucks... Not to mention carrying that extra battery around. While your switching your battery ill be walking by surfin the web.

Although i agree with you in part because often perception is reality...in "reality" the new antenna design is better for most users.

Everything being equal it has noticably stronger reception than most other phones. For some users however, if they live/work in an area with weak AT&T signal, and if they like their phone naked only, and if they naturally hold it in the death grip, the new design is certainly an achilles heel for them. That's a lot of "if's", and all must apply for the new design to affect a user.

None of those "if's" apply to me, and i love the fact i get stronger signals now and can make calls in more spots than i could before with fewer dropped calls.

It's a real issue, but it's way overblown as most users would never experience it. And Apple's so far pathetic reaction to the issue has only made it seem worse than it is.

Yep !!!! walking by trip & fall then crack the gorilla glass.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

I dont trip, I can actually stay on my feet. With the weight of that evo im suprised you can actually stand straight up without it pulling you over while you hold it infront of you. But i guess thats what the kickstand is for

For the longest time back in the early to mid 2000's, I always felt CNET was also very biased toward Sony products.

I guess no different to other tech sites biased towards Apple.

Many were, due in large part of their attitude toward MP3's and open standard flash memory formats. The bad reviews took care of themselves when you were dealing with only Sony Memory Stick and ATRAC only music playback.

Why do so many of you complain when the iPhone loses in a comparison? You should all be ***** celebrating. Maybe Apple would be more responsive and less dickish if they actually feared that any of you would leave the platform.

my opinion

the EVO looked UGLY, felt sluggish, case cheap. I chose an iPhone. Just my opinion. The iTunes interface was a big deal also.

I am not an Evo lover at all, however in my opinion a phone without a fully working antenna is a loser's toy. It's a phone before anything else. I touch here and phone loses signal...bah! I am sorry I wouldn't even give IP4 a whopping '1' score....

Fix the antenna, then it's a 5/5... IP4 does everything half-assed, but nothing perfectly.

Games - Low quality mobile gaming. Never going to replace real gaming consoles
Internet - 3.5 inch screen... good luck browsing without getting headaches
Phone - Loses signal if you touch it
Video - Again 3.5 inch screen. Get an Ipad if you like watching movies on the go. See the difference.

Best thing about IOS in general (not only IP4) is the ipod integration. It's a master when it comes to music/itunes structure.

Is android any better ? Hell no! .... As I said it's a phone before anything else. Do that first. I've always had signal issues with all of my iphones. Even they updated the software in 08 to show more bars. We have been blaming At&T all these years, though not this time.

The EVO always wins in the features category because it has 4G, which isn't fair because NOWHERE has 4G and Sprint charges $10 more to have it...

Good point.

Also, I feel like battery life, aesthetic and size should have had more weight here. Also, I know it gets knocked by a lot of people, but the Apple ecosystem is really a huge part of the experience. Between the AppStore and MobileMe (although it's not 'included') - iPhone owners pretty much have all the support they'd ever need.

2 years ago, a long list of features and potential capabilities might have sold me on a new smartphone, but since I've had an iPhone- I've realized that while I'd like my phone to do some advanced stuff, I want it to be streamlined and simple more then I care 'how many' things it does. Maybe I'm biased- but even with the EVO "winning" the iPhone comes out ahead in this video for me.

I follow CNET and I can see their issues with Apple. CNET is required to remain impartial, yet there is a large corporation with increasingly questionable behaviour and they have to balance criticism, commercial interest and entertainment. Having said that, they are also critical about Google, Microsoft, Facebook, AT&T and a bunch of other corporations when they do something bad.

But anti-Apple? I don't think so. They had the 3GS as the best smartphone for a while and sometimes they even feature relatively minor product releases from Apple that many other Tech sites wouldn't.

there is a 1.2 oz difference. maybe you need more protein. fanboys crack me up.

Lets be honest. The iphone lost because of the reception issue.
One thing that drives me nuts is they dont give any consideration to quality of Apps which is a major reason people buy iphones. If they did this fight wouldnt be close. I have had an Android phone and their marketplace is full of crap and quality is horrible compared to the iphone.

They point out the antenna flaw as a big issue, but how come they don't point out that the EVO has MASSIVE light leakage and screen separation problems? It's total BS in my opinion. The iPhone 4 has changed the smartphone market yet again and everyone wants to suck the EVO's huge, ugly penis. Drives me nuts.

The Antenna flaw in the iPhone is a DESIGN FLAW. Light leakage and the screen issues are hit or miss but antenna issue is a design flaw in the iPhone 4.
On top of that because of the design flaw it cause the iPhone 4 to be a failure when it comes to be a phone. A cell phone that is fails to be a phone deservse to be dinged for it.

The EVO always wins in the features category because it has 4G, which isn't fair because NOWHERE has 4G and Sprint charges $10 more to have it...

And yet it is still cheaper than the iPhone 4 on AT&T. Hard to ding them for something when it does not cost more than the slower network.

Well then they are complete morons. The EVO is a previous-gen phone, the iPhone is next-gen and that's the bottom line.

How do you figure? As a 3GS owner and iPhone fan, I think your completely wrong! Not only is the Evo a 4G device, it also has comparable (some better, some worse) hardware specs. Once it gets it 2.2 update it will be just as "next-gen" as the iPhone 4. The difference is that the iPhone 4 is suppost to be "current" for a whole more year, where as the Evo will be replaced in the next few months.

The iPhone is CURRENT-gen tech and is underspec'ed for the product cycle it was designed for.

I personally prefer my iPhone 4 which doesn't have the reception issue at all :D The bigger screen/widgets tempted me but I've had a Droid and a G1 and I always come back to Apple, because their OS is mucho better in practically every way.

Your gonna get rick rolled for this comment by some people. And to tell you the truth you deserve it lady. HAHA ^ Because you complain more than my girlfriend :)

By you? I doubt it. Lol... I am the one who has the evo, it fits my hands well (man hands) get it? Sounds like the iphone 4 Is doing its job of leaving you and many others wanting... Better luck next year....

Why would you really care? Enjoy yours and be done with it.

The reviews simply can't evaluate the fact that for some of us an iPhone is part of an entire ecosystem of Apple devices and services, all working together in a nicely orchestrated unison. Perfect? No. Better than other solutions out there? Definitely.
