It's both. It's a silicone case with a hard plastic shell, it's a two piece design.

Is the part you hold hard plastic with the silicone underneath it? Thanks. I like the feel of hard plastic better.

The hard, plastic material is the outer layer, & the soft, silicone material is the inner layer.

It will be in distribution in Mid August (which means you'd get it a week or so after that).

Just placed an order for the OtterBox Defender case on your site (protectthepad.com) and wondering if the "Est Ship date is July 30-Aug 5th" is accurate. I'm holding off on actually getting the phone until I have the case to put it in. I had anticipated mid-late Aug, but seeing your estimated ship date gives me some hope.

Yep, I emailed otterbox and they say they don't know when exactly, but I can take 2-3 months to release. Looks like I'm going with the Case-mate tough case or the candyshell, which both employ the same design but the tough case has matte plastic.

Someone claims they called and got a September release date. I'm not sure if I should break down and get the ballistic.

I can't wait till September - I'm not screwing up my phone waiting for the holy grail of cases. Won't be worth squat if I have to cough up 200 for a apple swap b/c I waited too long and got all butter fingered.

I just ordered the Speck Pixelskin from Amazon as a stopgap. Who knows, maybe I'll like it enough to keep it full time.

I don't think he is going to know any more about a release than anyone else that doesn't work for Otterbox...

Lint?

Can anyone tell me, once the case is on, can you actually see the rubber/silicon parts? I ask because
my previous rubber/silicon cases always attract lint.

I'm thinking of buying a otterbox commuter case.

I was going to go caseless until they came out with the Otterbox because I didn't want to pay $30 for a temporary case but now that Apple is offering these free bumpers and 3rd party cases, I'm going to get one of those! My phone isn't affected by the death grip, so I'm getting a case and not a bumper!!

Their pre-order policy states clearly that the price can change and that your preorder still needs to be confirmed w/ them before they actually ship it. So essentially you hold your place in line, but between now and ship date you have to log back in to confirm you still want it at whatever the actual going price is at that time.

True on everything you said. But I think mobilcityonline is aware that the current price for a Otterbox Defener case is $49.99 on most sites online. And if one do not agree to that price, one can cancel the order.

I cancelled a previous pre-order I placed at another on-line site and placed a pre-order at mobilecityonline. I like the fact that they don't charge you immediately for a pre-order and they allow you to confirm the order once it comes in stock prior to shipping. I think the price will stay the same or very close to it as their in-stock 3GS Otterbox Defender is also the same price. The only thing that concerns me is the estimated ship date. I'm not very optimistic that it will ship on that date as most folks who reportedly have talked to reps from Otterbox have been told it will be September before it's available. Still, if the price sticks, I'm willing to wait as I have an SGP vintage leather case to tide me over until I get the Otterbox.

I have plans to buy the Defender once it comes out. But I have a few questions about the screen. I have heard of the oil and the bubbles that the screen protector does to the 3g Iphones. Is this gonna be the same thing? I know that if you use a anti glare screen protector it helps. But I don't want to mess up the nice display that our iphone 4 screen has. Do any of you know what Otterbox will be doing about this? Because if that is what is going to happen then I night just buy the commuter case instead? Anyone know?

It looks like the release is not far off - I look at the product page of the Defender Series case everyday - and I noticed today they added more pictures. There is now mash-type texture on the back and the holster looks to be horizontal style. Check it out:

It would have been nice if they finally decided to cover the vanity hole at the back (would have dust-proofed it much better, unless there is an o-ring inside) but otherwise this case looks like it could take some abuse (not as much as the 3GS model, but still)

If Apple doesn't offer any satisfactory cases for free, a defender is my first choice.

My only problem with the defender, but do you think itll be too thick? I would never use the clip. Anyone that thinks that their 3GS was too thick with the defender?

yea I think it was too thick too. but you can always go with the thinner ones they have on their site now. (impact series)

p/s: their cutout in the back seems really small. anyone thinks it will be a problem for flash?

they wont have a problem with the hole for flash. It should be fine. I'm just waiting for pictures between impact vs. commuter. I've already decided on commuter,so im just waiting seeing real pics.
