Then we are actually in total agreement. I never said it wasn't real.

The psychological aspect is in terms of people freaking out over bars when they themselves have no problem. But that is not to say that if only a few were affected, that we shouldn't be concerned.

I didn't mean to call into question yor actual analysis, rather that if this issue was affecting you or I I'd bet we'd both be acting somewhat irrationally.

1) That's not the definition of delusional.

2) The definition of delusional lies not in a textbook but in the dictionary. If you'd known that you might have been able to look up the definition.

I guess I need to add anal to your list faults. And you wonder why you don't have a girlfriend.

If this turns out to be true, strap in & buckle up and prepare for countless waves of "neener nanner, told you so" posts from the MacRumors iPhone 4 defense squad.

Actually, I believe the burden is on Apple to provide a product that does what it is supposed to do, and the "whining" (which I would call asserting our rights) is in many cases justified. APPLE needs to come clean on this and fix the problem.

Although I suppose if enough people returned their phones, Apple would do something, but it shouldn't have to come to that. Apple needs to step up.

My guess is holding an unscheduled press conference 3 weeks after launch (for a company who NEVER does anything like that) is most likely not going to be a sidestep. The other fact is that people HAVE HAD the opportunity to return their phones. People aren't, but Apple still seems concerned enough to do something about it even as they cannot keep the product in stock.

I do have a girlfriend and you're correct. She does do anal. Maybe if you follow me around the forums enough I can claim to have two girlfriends.

I refuse to be pushed around by you. I will strap in and prepare when I want to, not when I'm told to. You're not in charge of me!

And if it doesn't we can "strap in & buckle up and prepare for countless waves of "neener nanner, told you so" posts" from Apple haters who joined the forum within the last several weeks.

Apple's big problem is that when you have a trivial problem that effects almost no one, you can't say it is a trivial problem that effects almost no one. If you say it is not a trivial problem when it is, you are lying to the public. The best they can do is say, "If you have this problem it is not trivial from your perspective."

There are probably some defective units out there in the early production runs and that is part of the price you pay for being an early adopter. Those units with a genuine "hardware" defect should be replaced but those probably only number in the thousands.

I do not, however, believe that all iPhone 4's have a hardware issue beyond the attenuation that all cell phones have when held and I also believe that you are not going to notice anything in terms of data speed or calls if you are in an area with a strong signal and lower congestion than say San Francisco or NY. It is possible that Yonkers, NY (where CR is located) has bad AT&T reception.

Finally, I do believe that a software fix in the radio firmware is all that is required to fix this issue in the iPhone 4. It seems like everyone has amnesia because the iPhone 3G and 3GS had some receptions problems on launch that were cleared up with a couple of radio firmware updates. It is entirely possible that the iPhone 4's radio firmware has some bugs in the 4.0 release.

If there can be a software fix... GREAT!.... If there is a temporary hardware workaround of some kind... GREAT! Full on Recall, free-bumper, kiss-on-the-cheek. GREAT!

I know the signal attenuation is real, but, so far, it hasn't affected my use of the iPhone 4 at all. So anything that happens is pure BONUS in my life!

Just ahead of today’s emergency iPhone 4 press conference (18:00 UK time), we’ve been alerted to another incredible design flaw in the iPhone 4.

And this design flaw is truly major and will certainly need all iPhone 4s to be recalled.

We originally got a tip off about the flaw from a “reliable source on the inside in Cupertino” and we have extensively tested this issue on our own iPhone 4s and can report conclusively that the flaw really does render iPhone 4s completely inoperable.

Just as blocking the iPhone 4 antenna can interrupt the signal strength, this new flaw is dependant on how the iPhone 4 is held. Shockingly enough, it seems that if you place your hand, palm down, over the entire screen, you can’t actually see anything on the iPhone 4 at all. All the icons completely disappear (as long as your hand is big enough to cover the whole screen), so it is impossible to use any of the iPhone’s clever input gestures.

We have tried to contact Apple for comment, and believe that it is inevitable that this important manufacturing defect will be addressed in the press conference later on today by Steve Jobs himself.

We are, of course, urging our readers to remain calm at this point.

You people are boring me. Make more stupid posts! I don't even have an iPhone, I don't care about "information". Entertain me!

Or maybe you'll come clean and admit you do anal.

I do. The gf loves it. You can't win. You can't beat me. That's why I'm here, and you're there. Because I'm a winner. I'll always be a winner, and you'll always be a loser.

You are either very funny, and i like your humor, or you are incredibly stupid, but i still like the humor.

Sadly that is very true. Even when something deserves trivialization, someone isn't going to understand that and take it as a denial and it's going to snowball. That's the victim of success.

I have just tried this and can CONFIRM it is true. Again I CONFIRM this report from my first hand experience. This is complete BS, my iPhone4 is completely unusable in the postion that is most comfortable to nearly all right handed people. How am I supposed to secure the device without my palm over the screen. Defective by design strikes again. When will Apple learn. If they do not offer a fix for this in todays press conference, I am contacting an attorney to file a class action law suit. This madness can not continue.

If a software update can still fix the issue, why wasn't it included with iOS 4.0.1? I find it hard to believe that it took three weeks to recalculate the signal display formula. I am very curious to see what happens tomorrow.

the "leak" is BS for this reason alone. 4.0.2 ? doesn't make sense.

Really? SO you are suggesting that Apple should have held back this release because they discovered another bug? Perhaps you are suggesting they should have rushed out the new fix without any testing. Software development companies normally follow a fairly rigid release management process.

If this fix would somehow replace or eliminate the 4.01 fix you might have a point. It would not, so you don't.
