The issue isn't why anyone would be concerned about upload speeds or even the relative importance of what is being uploaded. That's like saying an auto enthusiast shouldn't be concerned that their new Porsche doesn't go 0-90 in x seconds as advertised. AT&T and Apple are promising a level of service on what is arguably the Porsche of mobile tele-computing. Whomever is to blame needs to step up and fix the problem.

It is purely each of our rights and prerogatives to use up every ounce of bandwidth for whatever reason we desire at the promised speeds. If the network is at capacity, if an antenna design is flawed, if software isn't written properly then is is the legal and moral responsibility of AT&T and Apple to work it out and make good on the tools we have heavily invested in.

Birmingham average:
download - 500.75kbps
upload - 206.75kpbs

Yet another whine fest that I don't understand. I guess i'm the only one with a perfect phone.

You don't have a "perfect phone". Nobody has a "perfect phone". I'm tired of people saying they don't have the antenna issue, too, it's ********.

Apparently the "bad" test results at the beginning of this thread are even better than they are here in Philly.

Great Speeds in South Orange County CA!

Pretty awesome here......

Its most likely older markets affected as ATT is still building and replacing and updating a lot on the East Coast....

See? I tried to comment on this new trend of reporting every alleged glitch under the sun on other threads. But I got responses that these are real issues because users are reporting them.

That does nothing to address the actual cause or newsworthiness of the issue. In this case, lo and behold gizmodo is playing a role in spreading the FUD. what a surprise. Hot off proving their total lack of journalistic integrity, they are going after every alleged glitch of the very product they got themselves in trouble over!

My point in other threads, however misinterpreted, was that the anecdotal armchair experts are not providing as much useful cause-effect data as they are causing everyone else to go "hey my phone has crappy reception in certain locations too!" the real cause and magnitude of the issue gets convoluted in the process.

Groupthink can cause tens of thousands to be absolutely positive they saw Jesus on a piece of toast, and he actually started to speak.

But would these same people perceive a problem if the group hadn't put the idea there? We can't be sure without isolating them from the buzz. This is really dirty data and bad news reporting.

Oh wow, the first big holiday weekend after the iPhone 4 launch experienced speed issues across the network. Duh. Hello supply and demand.

That's news?

I'm not commenting in any way about Apples response to any of this. I am a critic myself. What I am commenting on is the difference between journalism and blogging.

Gizmodo does so well a job on their own making sure bloggers aren't confused for serious journalists. We don't need macrumors to reinforce it.

But OMGZ PAGEVIEWZ!

Nice to see my post linked to on the front page!

That AT&T lady was really nice, even though I didn't get a while lot of info out of her. After she talked even higher up to her boss about the issue, he said that I should call Apple as they will probably issue a software update to fix it. Bull! Worked fine one day and died the next. I'm still hopeful that she was telling the truth about there being network issues.

Also—I did talk to arn about this yesterday on Twitter, so he was aware of the situation before Gizmodo published the story. As it seems some markets still aren't capped, arn is probably right in that it is likely a temporary situation.

Minneapolis - iPhone 4

This is pathetic as well...I've been testing it all day and the numbers are all similar to this...

While I have no doubt that slow speeds can be blamed at the feet of AT&T, I don't think the SpeedNet test is the best one to reference.
I just ran the test a dozen times and got varying results while sitting in the exact same spot, holding the phone (3G) in the exact same manner.

Obviously the results are going to vary... but look at your highest upload...it's only 258...that's pretty crappy when just last week I was getting well over 1000 every test...
