Good questions in this thread, but why would they introduce a huge spec-bumped 4GS and a "5"?

The only reason I can see is that they desperately want to get Voice Assistant into the marketplace and are phasing out the previous iPhone 4 to make way for a phone that is capable of Voice Assistant?

Still, wouldn't they be priced in the same bracket? It seems foolish to completely phase out a perfectly current model (iPhone 4) just for a spec bumped one. The idea in technology is that the lower priced or free phones are dated tech...

4, 4s and 5

Here is my best attempt at keeping my rosey fanboi glasses given all the rumors that are squashing the 5.

iP4 - redesigned antenna - free and pay per usage.
iP4S - A5, 8m camera, 1G RAM - A.I. Enabled
iP5 - Same as 4S but new design and larger screen

A big problem for iP5 , besides the rumors not confirming it, is that apple would have to eat their marketing on the retina display and decrease dpi to have a larger screen. That seems unlikely but apple may surprise us. Also having 3 product options may also be unapple - two seems more in line.

It's not looking good for a redesign iPhone coming out tomorrow..

Unless Apple decides to change the name of the iPhone 4S to iPhone 5 I don't think we're seeing an iPhone 5 this year..

How can you realistically think that Apple is going to upgrade all the internal parts of the iPhone 4 release that and have that intended to be the "lower" end phone, YET they are going to also release ANOTHER brand new phone along side that with same said internal parts AND a complete external redesign... come on now.. Think people... Apple isn't about to start losing money!

iPhone 4s makes perfect sense. I think many poster here on MR's forget that the average (majority) of iPhone buyers don't visit sites like this. They won't be hugely disappointed if their is no redesign. Apple could releases the 4s with an A5 chip, more RAM, more storage, better camera, voice assistant, iOS 5, and the majority of consumers would be happy and gladly hand over their money. Apple would produce great ad's displaying voice assistant and other improvements iOS 5 brings.

Now that does not mean Apple has not been able to hide an all new design from everyone and there will be an iPhone 5 (new design). It just means no matter which way they go there will be no mob after Tim Cook or outrage by anyone other than some vocal posters on tech sites.

Ok no iPhone for me.... :( I cannot understand that Apple waited so long for just an tiny Update....or fixing the "Antennagate" problem, really poor!!! No ****** the iOS5, it will also run with iOS4.

The way I see it

Iphone
Iphone 3g
Iphone 3gs
Iphone 4
Iphone 4s
Iphone 5
Iphone 5s.

Who knows?

The one thing that keeps me positive about redesigned fifth iphone will see the light tomorrowis one and only one thing. Remember the LED-indicator for missed calls in iOS5? Dosent work so good in one the backside? Right. Now look at the iP5 cases, with a big opening on the front. Thats the knew iphone, the cases are right.

And you don't see the flaw in that ? Where's the iPhone 2 ?

Yeah, if this phone is actually the 4s, the next iphone is either the 6 or something else, lest the entire number scheme become nonsensical.

I was just on the thread discussing how the iphone 3gs may become free on contract. Seeing as its very likely that there's no redesign, I propose that Apple change it to $100 for a 1 year contract, so that people can make it in time for the new redesigned iphone. Who's with me on this?

If its an updated iPhone 4 with slightly different internals and no bigger screen, I will stick with my iPhone 4, and im sure a lot of others will too. 16 months and the same design, no way Apple.

I have faith in new design

I don't see how this is evidence for anything since it's an iPhone 4 case and the options are speculation. It obviously wouldn't fit on a redesigned phone

Indeed, it's puzzling that so many seem to be acting like spoilt children. You're going to abandon the iphone if it's not redesigned? Good, no need to tell anyone about it, they don't care. The design is fine as it is.

Why do people want a redesign so much? It seems like people just want their new iPhone to look different just to look different/distinguished.

I don't understand the disappointment - buy it if you want / need it, don't if you don't. Why would Apple "lose" you if there's not a new design? They don't "owe" you anything to begin with.

I don't understand how some of you can be so naive and even say things like the one above. If Apple (or any company for that matter), didn't "care" about what their CUSTOMERS think or want, they wouldn't exist.

Of course Apple doesn't owe you anything, but I can GUARANTEE you that their number one focus is to keep customers happy for the sake of their financial future.

I will buy it no matter what and the geeks who queue up all night will lap it up but I am not convinced that it is going to excite anyone but the hardcore geeks who make up 5-10% of Apple users, most Apple iphone buyers are school/college/uni kids who want to show off when they are in public and make the world think they are rich by flaunting the latest iPhone in public but if the iPhone 4s looks just like the iPhone 4 how will they be able to show off ? someone walking by a kid showing off a 4s won't notice the difference to a 4 so everyone who is a show off (most iPhone buyers) have no incentive to upgrade.

I will be outside my local o2 store at 3am like I was 16 months ago and hundreds of geeks will wait with me excitedly but I am not convinced that the show offs have any great reason to get the 4S

The 1 one the phone is "one missed "call" " And this is in reference to Steve Jobs not attending along with a small tribute to him lead by Tim Cook with a welcoming of Cook by the rest of the Apple employes

I predict that Steve will be there tomorrow and will do the main keynote unveiling of the new phone

They're going to ship all those iPhones without an OS?

No they already have the OS and are ready to ship out. They are at Ingram Micro.

Wow! you sure do have quite an imagination. The date's a date. The #1 by the phone means there's only 'one iPhone' model covering all providers. "Let's talk iPhone" simply means speech recognition has been incorporated.

I'm surprised that you didn't point out that the cross formed by the highways means that the new iPhone has been personally blessed by Christ himself.

Or maybe I know something you don't ;)

At least I have a connection and not making crap up. iPhones are at Ingram Micro wrapped in orange plastic, with security tape and security cables in a secured warehouse with cameras pointed on them.

Just like the iPad2 was that I posted about.

Yeah, if this phone is actually the 4s, the next iphone is either the 6 or something else, lest the entire number scheme become nonsensical.

Like Windows 7 :D.

This is now the last tiny tiny shred of logic that keeps a little light of hope alive for what should be a redesign tomorrow. It is a lonely little shred :(.

Its the 5th iphone model produced, even if they call it the iPhone 4s so it is indeed an iPhone 5.

the other "profound inprovments" will be reduction in production costs that mean more profit for apple per unit sold.

So according to you the iPhone 3G was the iPhone 2? Funny, maybe you should tell Apple that since they screwed it up.

It is really hard to understand the marketing strategy of the apple. Why the hell they don't release a redesigned iphone while there are 41% demand for it.

For the hardware upgrade I don't think people care about the internal upgrade for the same shape, it is just a phone and it doesn't have to be too powerfull. I think and also too many of apple fan out there expecting a slimmer and wider design with bigger screen for new iphone. At the moment I lost my all hopes for a redesigned iPhone 5. And looking to Galaxy S2 for an alternative. Cause I hate the iPhone 4 design.

One thing is as sure as the rising sun, e every time Apple is releasing a new iOS product the rumor forums are flooded with commentors insisting that Apple will go down in flames if the new device doesn't have the Andriod 'Feature of the Month'.

It's so obvious now that apple is making a huge mistake. I love iPhone but the screen has just become to small as I and others are using our phones for more and more things. No phone will ever run so precise as an iPhone but it's time for a larger screen or apple will lose and lose big. It's apparent that they are going to use ios5 as the main selling point of this 4s phone and this assistant feature as the num1 selling point. But honestly they are taking a huge gamble on this assistant app. I know it's going to be revolutionary but there have been lots of cool voice features b4 and as cool they are no one ever ...... Ever uses them. This is a different ballgame no of days in the cell phone world. These devices are not just phones. Like me there are slot of people who operate their lives thru them. And a larger screen is a necessity now. If there is no redesighn then I'm sorry to say that at least 50% of iPhone users will at some level explore other options. This phone design is going to be 2 and a half years old by the time they change it next year . By that time we may see an actuall user friendly android os and features that my blow the iPhone out of the water. Android will eventually get it right it's inevitable. And when they do apple will be screwed , with their 3.5 inch screen and never used voice controls. I will be so disappointed if they do not release a redone iPhone 5. I honestly cannot see myself switching to any other phone maker but if apple chooses to let itself fall so far behind the times then what choice does that leave millions of users who want to stay with the times. Tim cook.... Do not make the mistake of thinking that in this changing smartphone world that this phone design will continue to be on top for another 12 months. It would go down is history as one of the most ignorant and worst decisions that a company who is on top has ever made. Android cannot keep releasing junk forever.

I am a die hard iPhone user. But this is the Time when it is actually possible that they can and probaly will experience a major blow if they do not redesign this phone. The market is not what it used to be. If they don't redo the iphon watch what happens they will fall behind in a very drastic way. The average user does not pay so close attention to internals. They see a larger screen and better design on something else and their choice is easy. Nice big screen and more features against the same 2 year old iPhone with a small screen and guess what they will buy..... Not the iPhone and I'm very sad to say it.. I really hope they had the brains to redesign the 4.

Although I've accepted an iPhone 4S, and will be upgrading to it.

Like I said, just my two cents. I'm buying a new iPhone regardless of what it's called and what it looks like.

These two posts confirm Apple need not update the design to sell it.

See what Apple does?;)

Yes, they make phones people want and will buy.

I don't understand the issue with the new 'speed bump'. And anyone who says they are switching to another phone maker are liars :) I guarantee you'll switch then come back, or not switch at all.

Its about the experience, and with this speed bump (and any extra's) you'll all be back. Regardless of screen size.

I can already see it:

"... And today we show u the iPhone 4S the best phone on the market. the iPhone 4 had an incredible year, well received from our customers and thats why we keep the design, its amazing no wait its MAGICAL and now even 0.00001 % lighter and u can use all your cases etc from the iphone 4 it all fits perfectly. Isnt it amazing?" now onto some tweaked graphics and app previews no one cares about

To me it sounds more like they want their new iPhone to look like an Andriod phone. If they want a phone that looks like an Andriod phone they should just buy an Android phone.
