Would it be unreasonable that Apple may drop the numerics? There will be one iPhone (as per red 1 - meaning new?! - on the telephone icon of the invite) once 3GS is dropped. Then the price differential will go on SSD and with it goes the upspec. 32GB and 64GB gets the A5 processor, the 8GB and 16GB get the A4 and perhaps some internal upspecs of the aerial etc?

At no point there were any iPhone5 rumors that were signaling a "must-have" that now would not be fulfilled. The only thing we ever new about the iPhone 5 was the teardrop shape, which is a nightmare anyhow for a device switching between landscape and portrait.

The next gen iPhone will be awesome, if it is not a teardrop design, even better.

What did you expect after there is already a retine display? You will get now dual core and 8 times better graphics.

Apple has NO reason to make a major redesign to a completely functional and beautiful phone in just one year. It doesn't mean that they'll redesign the phone every year because they did it last year. Whoever put that bigger screen rumor going is a douche...

Its a posting for an iPhone 4 bumper and its suggesting it also fits a 4S.

An iPhone 5 would have a different bumper....

I can and what its suggesting is that this BUMPER fits these models.
So, its doesn't mean **** whether or not there is an iPhone 5

I want a bigger screen. I dont NEED the additional features rumored to be in the 4S. In reality I'll probably get one, but I'll get it delivered rather than do the whole line up in Sydney thing, even though it's fun

I only make this suggestion, for the reason that things just don't add up. iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S? 90% of the whole reason Apple sold as many iPhone 4's as it did is because it looks new and sexy, and as other people have mentioned it's the fashionista exclusivity thing! If they don't release a new design, why upgrade at all? In whatever guise be it 3GS or 4 the iPhone still does what you need it to do, get your e-mail surf the web, run the apps etc etc.

I would seriously consider keeping my 3GS running for another year if there isn't a redesign, because do I really need iOS 5 and the assistant feature? No...

If the iPhone 5 turns out to just be the iPhone 4 with a newer CPU and the kinks straightened out, I might as well stick with my 3GS for another year.

I didn't get the iPhone 4 because of the horrible form-factor and the antenna problems at release.

The Gadget Show took the iPhone 4 out with the iPhone 3GS and asked people in the street what they liked and although people liked the screen of the 4, the majority said they preferred the 3GS shape. I'm with them.

The iPhone 5 as rumoured, had the hand-comfortable shape in a slimmer form-factor with beefier CPU.

I'm just concerned that parts and design issues have delayed the iPhone 5 and this 4S is a stop-gap which we'll be told is "IT" when it isn't, and the iPhone 5 will then appear early next year.

Wouldnt say Im too excited this year for the Iphone announcement. and iP4s would be a welcome addition and it would be nice to have the antennae issue resolved with this minor tweak. IOS will definitely benefit from the A5, dont know about the rest of you but my iP4 fels very sluggish these days.

Am i gonna buy it, yeah probably, although not a 32Gb version like what I have now as with the iCloud coming I wount have the need for that capacity like previous years. Would it have been nice to see a newly designed phone, yeah i guess so but I ant help thinking that the iP4s will be an improvement. It's what the iP4 should have been as I mentioned before as long as they have sorted the antennae issue out (that was a major flaw with iP4 - it was proven many times and Apple admitted it or else they wouldn't have refunded customers or tried to keep them on board with free bumpers and cases). Oh and they sacked the designer too so what does that tell ya. They did manage to cover it up well though and fool everyone into believing it was the carriers fault. Anyway moving on.

It could be the fastest phone in the world, that could make a cup of tea, prepare the dinner and make a holywood blockbuster on its 8Mp camera...but if it cant substantiate a reliable signal and not constantly drop calls then it doesnt deserve to be called a phone!!!! Because thats what it is at its core, so lets get it sorted Apple. Ill have the credit card ready and waiting!

iPhone 5 was probably planned

I tend to believe the rumors regarding the iPhone 5 display manufacturing problems. We saw it specific to one supplier (pegatron?) with non-denials.

In addition, we had the rumors of the A5 running too hot in prototypes--nor shocking considering the size of the A5 die and the shrink of the iPhone 5 case.

Third, let's not forget the engineering needed to bring out a good CDMA and GSM design. I'm not an electrical engineer, but considering the problems they had had with the GSM iPhone 4, it wouldn't surprise me at all if this added time.

Fourth, look how long it took to get white iPhone 4's out the door. That seems like an amazingly small accomplishment, but it clearly wasn't given the time it took.

Fifth, the normal summer roll-out wasn't shot down by Apple so much as it simply never came together.

Sixth, if Apple is really going to release in China, they would need to ramp up and stockpile a crap ton (Imperial measure) of whatever phone they were dropping...if the iPhone 5 had any delays it would surely have been bumped back.

So, to conclude, I think the 4s is a big deal for Apple's world markets, and I think it had to be a sure thing. With the schedule already off by a quarter, I think the iPhone 5 was pushed back for a safer model to transition to their one world phone due to all sorts of manufacturing issues.

This also leads me to believe that the real iPhone 5 probably won't have to wait a full year...perhaps just back to a June roll-out. Perhaps they'll even stick an A6 in it?

iPhones are in at a warehouse in PA where my friend works. They are wrapped in orange plastic and will be shipping out tomorrow after the event. I asked if he knew if it was the iPhone 5 and he said when he asked Apple the guy didn't say anything but smiled. At least I know they are in and will be shipping tomorrow. This is the same friend that told me the iPad2 was in and shipping the next day.

Some of these comments are hi-lari-ous. It use to be that Apple h8trs said Apple was "all form over function," so here the iPhone 4S might have the same form as the current model but more functional and wa-la... complaints.

Did it occur to you that some of the "form over function" people are the ones complaining and not the ones who are "haters" according to you ? Maybe you should realise something :

- People that post something positive towards Apple about 1 subject can then turn around and post something negative about them in another.
- People that post something negative towards Apple about 1 subject can then turn around and post something positive about them in another.

I for one would be plenty satisfied with an iPhone 4 look-alike A5 sporting and other goodies phone (sounds like we're finally getting a storage bump after 2 years). I have been very vocal both positively and negatively against Apple and often times I am against "form over function", so a "hater" according to you (why would I spend money on Apple products and time in an Apple forum if I hated all of Apple I will never understand, but nonetheless, according to you I am a hater).

So there you go, big mystery solved. There is no double standards, only a large community with different views about products, different needs and wants. Sometimes, it's the "form over function" people that are happy, sometimes it's the "function over form" people that are. Neither are haters, neither are fanboys, all are users of a product.

This constant "if you're posting something negative you're a hater" mentality from you and others needs to stop. It's tiring and doesn't promote discussion, only flaming.

Im with you on the iphone 4 in terms of uncomfortable to hold nasty form over function desgin, I would like a new iphone to be more like the 1st gen iphone, that had the right shape and weight for me, i dont want "thinner and lighter" i want "comfortable to hold", and "not going to shatter and scratch to buggery" , also, the glass is just a bloody fingerprint magnet, id like an iPhone with a screen like the Samsung Galaxy SIIs screen (my current phone, and the screen is far better than the iPhone 4s due to the increased size and better colour reproduction IMO),

So ill give apple a year, let the 4s run now, and bring me a 4+ inch iPhone 5 with slight curved screen, touch home button and aliminum back again. Only this time dont sacrifice battey power just to be the "thinnest and lightest" i want 14-16hrs per charge with daily use like i get on my SGSII.

I don't deny that I liked the feel of my old 3Gs to the iPhone 4, but the improvement in battery and screen were enough to make it worthwhile .

I probably will not upgrade to a 4s, but will wait for a screen size bump.
