With names, I figured the next one would be 4S or whatever letter, 4GS when they put 4G into it, then finally iphone 5 whenever they change the case again.

So...

iPhone 4s with iOS 5
iPhone 4GS with iOS 6
iPhone 5 with iOS 7

I highly doubt it. It will look more like this:

iPhone 5 with iOS 5
iPhone 6 with iOS 6
iPhone 7 with iOS 7

The simplicity is key when marketing. It also makes sense to advance your version numbers as quickly as possible to maintain the perceived lead over the competition. When a customer walks into a store and sees iPhone 5, Droid X 2, and Nexus S2, what sounds like the most advanced model?

There is a reason Microsoft named their latest Xbox "360" rather than "2". You don't want to have "Xbox 2" sitting on a shelf next to "PlayStation 3".

Bad move by apple if they release a new iPad.

I don't think they view it as you do.

The more they push out, the more they sell, the more headlines they grab, and that is what Apple thrives on.

Apple wants all the attention they can get.

These rumors are so off base, idk if I can even consider them rumors. Just junk...

Why would apple release an iPad 3 w/ stellar IPad 2 sales? They wouldn't.

Why would they wait a year and a half to release a souped up iPhone 4. They wouldn't.

At least someone is talking some sense.

MacRumors, you have an obsession with iPad 3. This is the year of iPad 2. In every post you have to add something about iPad 3.

So what does this mean for us people on verizon? Will they let us trade in our fairly new ip4 for the new one? Or atleast give us a credit??
LOL.. It works just like any other phone on Verizon. When your contract is up you can get a new subsidized phone. Otherwise you pay full price. Sell your old one to make up some of the difference.

Rumor buster:

1) iPhone 4S, if there will be one, will be the lower model. I think it's pretty obvious that there will be an iPhone 5, no doubt about it.

2) iPad 3? No, but an iPad 2 HD makes more sense. Will it happen? I doubt it.

But Steve said 2011 is the year of the iPad 2.

Another iPad does not really have to be an iPad3.

The next MAJOR revision would of course be the iPad3, but there is no reason why a small upgrade could not be a 2S or 2HD or 2Pro or something else.

macrumors has become a site just stupidly echoing some stupid rumors.
What a ****ing rumor about another ipad 3 and iphone 4s!

So, something is coming between September and October but we have no idea how many devices (one or two iPhones, iPad?) and we have no clue on feature set (iPhone 4s or iPhone 5, maybe both, and what about iPad Retina?).

It's really been amazing how many sources have chimed in on this Sept-Oct theory, since it's been around for months, and yet we've gotten no clearer a picture as to what's coming, aside from a new iPhone.

Apple definitely clamped down tight after the iPhone 4 leak. Nobody has a clue what to expect.

they better release something soon. I'm really starting to not care. I haven't really cared for the iphone 5 mockups I've seen. assuming they're accurate, I'm just waiting on a discounted iphone 4. my 3Gs has been just fine but it gets a little slower with each bloated update.

I'm also starting to wonder if the iPad 2/HD/Pro rumors have been circulated by Apple to assess leaks or a competitor attempting to slow sales of the current model.

In all likelihood it is just outrageous speculation, but we know that both Apple and their competitors have engaged in these types of behavior before.

Maybe the A6 is meant for the iPad 4? Apple moved the release cycle of the iPhone to this new Sept/Oct timeframe. Why can't they change the iPad's release cycle as well?

If an A6 processor is out of the question as is a retina display what "upgrades" could and iPad released in October have?

My reliable sources "in the know" of things are reporting that iPhone 16 and iPad 14 will both be released sometime between Q1 2019 and Q4 2023. Stay tuned (aka refresh Mac Rumors) until more details are available.

I'm not into pointless speculation.

...but releasing an iPad 3 at the same time as the iPhone 5 doesn't make a ton of sense. ...or any. No matter how you slice it. Not from a marketing perspective, not from a product lifecycle standpoint, nothing.

If they do it, I will be thoroughly surprised that they threw that much conventional wisdom & even their own brand of unconventional wisdom striaght out the window.

Maybe Apple wants to treat the iPad like a Mac, internal changes every X months and a complete redesign every year or something like that

The phone has been out a year....The iPad 2 hasn't even been out 6 months. That's like saying they will release the iPhone 5, then the iPhone 6 six months later. The fallout form such a thing would result in alot of unhappy iPad 2 owners and much distrust in Apple.

I don't think they are really looking for that!

Alright, enough is enough! I'm laying down my predictions! :D

There will be NO new iPad this year. End of discussion.

There will be TWO new iPhones this year; a souped up iPhone 4 that is renamed the iPhone 4S (which will also target the prepaid market) and the much-rumored iPhone 5. In addition, we'll see the launch of iOS 5 (and a preview of iOS 5.1) and iCloud, as well as a refresh of the iPod line (new iPod Touch, Nano and Shuffle). And the one more thing announcement? For it's tenth anniversary, the iPod Classic will be getting its last refresh.

You heard it here first!

:apple:

I really don't think (HOPE) that Apple does not release another iPad. I personally do not think there will be another iPad until the A6 is ready for mass production. Besides for a retina display what else could Apple offer that would entice iPad owners to upgrade?

Yes I also own an iPad 2, and there is no way my wife will let me get a new one after only 2 months, lol.

I remember when

I heard/read that they are going to skip the iPhone 5 and just goto the iPhone 6, and the iPad is getting a Pentium. I mean honestly after all the issues they had with "reporting" the Lion launch date wouldn't it be better to just say there is a product update coming in an unspecified department of apple, and that usually around this time the iPod or iPhone gets an update. Its almost like they are just posting forum chat and calling it a headline. Why report something if there is nothing to report its not even a rumor its a time schedule fact, Apple updates products around that time.
