My prediction is that the iPhone 5 will be an over the air update (surprise!), adding left and right facing cameras, work on Sprint's network, charge using the Earth's magnetic field, and include Amazon's patent for phone air bag technology (rumored to be called the iBag)

I just don't think it's good to have a single iOS device release period for the entire year. Plus if it's allocated throughout the year, it keeps the hype machine going (huge lines in March for iPads and September for iPhones).

and yet still will have no functionality as a phone due to death grip

They just caught up with iPad 2 production... Would you rather have solid sales of an industry leading iPad 2 through the holidays or a short supply of iPad 3's?

I find it hard to believe that Apple will have had the iPhone 4 on the market for 15-16 months and is only planning a minor release to iPhone 4S, but 6 months later is ready to release a new iPad that warrants a number upgrade to iPad 3.
This is Steve Jobs we're talking about. He lives for upsetting expectations. Not to say it will happen, but if he can surprise people, he loves to do it.

I agree. No reason for another update so soon.

Yes an update is necessary. The iPad 2 was a horrible update and Apple knows this. I don't know why iPad 2 owners are so against another iPad coming out. Your iPad 2 is yesterday's news.

You are right. All those queues in Apple stores are not people buying iPhones but returning.

You know that newbie accounts are monitored for trolling right? Especially with an alias like that you can be sure people are sceptic about your posts on an Apple forum.

There is ALWAYS a minimum of a year between product revisions. They only just goth the white iPhone 4 in production and iPad 2 has not been out a year. My prediction is the focus will be on iOS 5 and possibly a budget/unlocked pay as you go phone. However it would be nice to see better quality camera in the iPads. These one suck.

Macbook Air??

i bet at least 50% of iPhones are returned because of the bad call quality

and I'm not free to express the truth on this forum? I don't want to be just another zombie, antenna gate did really happen you know.

There is no way that 50% of iPhones are being returned. MOst of my colleagues and friends have iPhones and the only one I know of that has been returned was one with a cracked screen. Go check the refurbished section of the Apple store. If you are correct it should be filled with millions of iPhones now.

Of course you are free to express your opinion, and I agree with the fact that there is an effect on reception when you hold the iPhone in a different way. But this antenna gate thing has been discussed to death here, so any comment just bringing up death grip from an Androidfan sounds like trolling around here.

Amazon will release a couple Tegra3 quad core tablets in Sept/Oct of this year. Apple obviously feels the need to get the ipad on a level playing field as soon as possible heading into the holiday season. Apple knows their fans will buy an ipad3 even if they already own an ipad 2 and the original because these people don't use common sense like normal people.

I'm thinking AppleTV will get a boost so it supports games.

I was really wishing they were going to do a WiFi only version of the iPhone for the low-end device. This way there would be a smart phone out there that didn't require a 3G or 4G network (and therefore cheaper on a monthly contract) and yet still bring many goodies to the table for the buyer who just does not need to be that mobile. It would kill the feature phone market IMHO. :D

isnt that an iPod Touch

That's with a contract. That iPhone is subsidized.

Remember that we were talking about the iPhone4. The 3GS does not have a death grip problem. You are mixing stuff up.

that or maybe both phones had different issues thus causing large return rates.

You shouldn't look up articles to support your reasoning without reading them because the article that you just mentioned contains this segment:

If true, the exchanges would contrast sharply with the two percent iPhone 4 return rate even at the height of worry over its antenna sensitivity.

In addition the article you are linking is about the Android OS, and not related to returns based on reception etc.. Get your facts straight.

yes but iPhone return rates are still 30-40% compared to about 2% with the droids, it doesn't mater what it's over reception is just one factor that could cause people to return the iPhone.

I hate it when people think they are "owed something" when a company releases a new version of an existing product.

If Ford has a better Mustang in 2013, do all of the people who bought the 2012 model deserve credit or a "free upgrade"?

All you people who bought the Verizon iP4 knew that the 5th gen was around the corner.

You made the choice. Live with it.

:apple: $599/$699 iPhone 5 :apple:

No, but my brother sure wishes he could keep the MT in his 2011 from shredding gears. ;)

Dude, learn to read. The article specifically says that Android return rates are very high compared to a 2 percent total return rate of the iPhone4.

IT'S THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!

Now thanks for the entertainment, but I'm going to get back to watching The Sopranos now.

It's time anyway that this thread gets back on topic.

All of you thinking the iPad 3 will be releasing this year, please for the love of god use your damn heads and think

iPad 2 is still a monster in the tablet market
Apple just are meeting the demands now
iOS 5 will make it even better and satiate customers who feel bored. Also an additional selling feature.
Why sell the iPad 3 now if they haven't yet milked the iPad 2 for everything it's got as far as revenue is concerned yet?

It will not happen. NO WAY!
