LOL.. It works just like any other phone on Verizon. When your contract is up you can get a new subsidized phone. Otherwise you pay full price. Sell your old one to make up some of the difference.

Unless within the aloted return time.

But obviously if it has been purchased now by the time it comes out it would be well beyond that.

I don't think they view it as you do.

The more they push out, the more they sell, the more headlines they grab, and that is what Apple thrives on.

Apple wants all the attention they can get.

That really makes no sense at all....The old saying "Any publicity is good publicity" doesn't hold true in every case. Bad business decisions will most certainly hurt a company.

Alright, enough is enough! I'm laying down my predictions! :D

There will be NO new iPad this year. End of discussion.

There will be TWO new iPhones this year; a souped up iPhone 4 that is renamed the iPhone 4S (which will also target the prepaid market) and the much-rumored iPhone 5. In addition, we'll see the launch of iOS 5 (and a preview of iOS 5.1) and iCloud, as well as a refresh of the iPod line (new iPod Touch, Nano and Shuffle). And the one more thing announcement? For it's tenth anniversary, the iPod Classic will be getting its last refresh.

You heard it here first!

:apple:

I'm thinking AppleTV will get a boost so it supports games.

I was really wishing they were going to do a WiFi only version of the iPhone for the low-end device. This way there would be a smart phone out there that didn't require a 3G or 4G network (and therefore cheaper on a monthly contract) and yet still bring many goodies to the table for the buyer who just does not need to be that mobile. It would kill the feature phone market IMHO. :D

I hope there will be a new iPad HD or 3, cause the iPad 2 is not good enough to upgrade from iPad 1. I want at least 1GB RAM and HD screen.

They will probably be announced on september 7 alongside the new iPods and iPhone.

It will look more like this:

iPhone 5 with iOS 5
iPhone 6 with iOS 6
iPhone 7 with iOS 7

The simplicity is key when marketing.
That makes sense, too. I was thinking with marketing that they'd want it made crystal clear that 4G is in the phone by putting it in the name, like with iphone 3G.

Maybe :apple: will develop a 7G, so that they can market the iPhone 7g?

Sorry, but you'll have to wait till February/March.

I hate it when people think they are "owed something" when a company releases a new version of an existing product.

If Ford has a better Mustang in 2013, do all of the people who bought the 2012 model deserve credit or a "free upgrade"?

All you people who bought the Verizon iP4 knew that the 5th gen was around the corner.

You made the choice. Live with it.

iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, etc. - What's really going to happen

Here is my take on the situation:

Apple is going to release 2 phones - iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 both.

iPhone 4s - lower cost option to replace iPhone 3GS at low end of spectrum. 3GS is a lot cheaper to build so they have to re-engineer the iPhone 4 to bring down cost. This could be a cheap or free phone with carrier subsidies.

iPhone 5 - new design, larger screen, better camera, etc.

Some people are still claiming the only thing "new" was going to be the iPhone 4 but with upgraded components. The longer time goes on the less and less likely that is. If Apple was going to take that approach they could've had that ready in June (or even earlier) as that is a VERY simple tweak. The fact that it will be at least september before we see anything is an indication that there is new form factor/hardware in the works.

Also, CFO said in their earnings call that a "MAJOR PRODUCT TRANSITION" was planned for late September and that's why their projections were lower. To me this means that 3GS and iPhone 4 as we know it are both going away. Simply upgrading iPhone 4 is not a major transition at all.

I don't think we'll see LTE in either of these yet but the iPhone 5 will be 4G in the sense that it supports HSPA+. The problem with LTE is twofold - there is terrible battery life and there are no unified global standards. There are so many different bands being potentially deployed globally and no real sense of how things will settle out. The current LTE Verizon phones will likely only ever work on Verizon (some people are saying ATT and Verizon LTE might not even be compatible at all). That's not to say apple won't be able to come out with an LTE super chip that can support all the bands but as of now that chip doesn't exist...and they're not going to fragment their product line with 10 versions of the iphone 5.

That's another typo: it's not NO. But ONE. (I'm not stalking you, promise)

Here I can't agree more; the last refresh for iPod classic even include a SSD variant with 256 GB. iPod touch stays on 64 GB because of cloudy conditions.

For once.. I'm just tired of these iPhone rumors. Everyone is spinning their wheels on this device.

But Steve said 2011 is the year of the iPad 2.

Steve has a long history of lie'ing.

A lot of people have called the Ipad 2 "Ipad 1.5". It's possible the other half of that is coming in September. This would give Apple a single event every year for all IOS devices. It's possible this was the plan all along, and the reason why the Ipad2 was a bit of a lack luster upgrade over the original Ipad.

Instead of thinking about it like "why would they make Ipad3 so soon after Ipad2" you should be thinking "they took half the stuff from the originally planned Ipad2 and gave them to us in the spring, and will give us the other half in september and effectively get to sell the same product twice"

I'm thinking it'll keep the A5, maybe give it a slight clock speed bump. A higher resolution panel. Possibly combine AT&T and Verizon Ipad's into a single device that can be used on either network. Maybe stereo speakers. The basic design and layout will remain the same. It'll just be the couple of extra's we thought we were going to get in the Ipad2.

Considering the history of case design leaks the past few years before a new release, I do not believe we will see an iPad 3 in a few weeks. Unless the case stays the same of course.

I think a new iPhone is the only thing we will see along with a redesign of the current iPods and iOS5.

Yes, that sounds so backwards! Given product cycles and timing, there should be an iPhone 5 and an iPad 2S if anything.

If you consider past product cycles there should have been an iPhone 4S a few months ago and we won't see an iPad in three weeks.

edit: hey this automatic consecutive post stitching is great!

Finally, someone else comes to this series of logical conclusions.

iPhone maybe but doubtful..iPad no.

There is ALWAYS a minimum of a year between product revisions. They only just goth the white iPhone 4 in production and iPad 2 has not been out a year. My prediction is the focus will be on iOS 5 and possibly a budget/unlocked pay as you go phone. However it would be nice to see better quality camera in the iPads. These one suck.

Its not gonna be an iPad 3, its gonna be a new line of iPads named iPad Pro, like the Macbook Pros. That way it does make sense that they will release a new version of iPad this year.

iPad 3 next year. This year they introduce the new line of iPad Pros.

Besides, it HASNT PAST A YEAR SINCE MACBOOK AIRS WHERE UPDATED. They were last updated on october I think, and this year on July. So it hasn't been a whole year.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A5288d Safari/7534.48.3)

Maybe Apple wants to treat the iPad like a Mac, internal changes every X months and a complete redesign every year or something like that

Macs do get internal changes every 9 months-1 year, but redesigns these days only come every 3-4 years or so!

why buy an iPhone? the thunderbolt is so much better, even when the iphone5 comes around it will still be way behind
