Is there really seller protection for selling worldwide? Any links?

I'm interested in doing this also but the thought of being ripped off scares me. Sold a MacBook on eBay before where the Buyer used a stolen credit card through PayPal, and PayPal only notified me a few days after I sent the item and took the money back. I was lucky enough to have the item stopped in transit, and after many long discussions I found out that there is no protection for shipping items worldwide.. but this was a few years back, not sure if things had changed.

what exactly is seller protection ??

I'm being asked to select an iPhone data plan when I go to upgrade my normal line. Voice plan also gets bumped up to $80 on it.

How would selling the phone and reverting back to the old plan work? Wouldn't that break the contract?

pre ordered THREE(3) 32 GB iPhones.

unfortunetely only 1 of the 3 was available for the 299 price, the other two i had to pay 499 each.

I am keeping one for myself, have the other two listed on ebay for 950 a peice with free shipping ( looks like most of em are selling right around 950-1000 )

So, i eat the 300 dollar upgrade for myself.

selling 2 iphones @ 950 each, total sale = 1900

i payed 1000 for them out of pocket...

profit = $900 ( more like 800ish with tax and other fees )

But its a nice way to make an easy buck.

On a side note, anybody have an idea when i'll be able to " cancel " my data plan on the 2 lines that i upgraded the iphones on?

My other pre-order just sold for $900. So the tally is:

Total received $1805
E-bay fees $108
Shipping fees $64 (express insured for $800)
Pay Pal fees $53
3 32g iPhone 4's $960

So for my "trouble" I get $620 in my pocket and a "free" 32g 4! :D

If you don't plan on using the lines that you ordered the "extra" iphones on, don't you now have to pay a $325 ETF? Or are you just purchasing the iphones with no service?

Nope. You don't have to pay an etf because you're still signing a new 2 year contract.

I have a question...it looks like I'm going to be receiving 2 iPhones, one from Apple and one from AT&T (my AT&T order went through even though the server timed out and I got an error message). If I want to sell one, do I just take the SIM card out and not activate the phone? Both phones were purchased on an upgrade, not new contracts.

You only pay an ETF if you decide to cancel those lines.

so you don't cancel and keeping paying for service on that phone line ? in that case your profile is not really $300 per phone its more like negative $80 ,given you dont need another line and just hangon to it (on ur family share $9.99 per month) cause you bought a phone and sold it on ebay

How do you think thats easy money, or is it in the USA?

Because over in the UK the phones are £499 or 599 or contracts that bill up to around 800£, and pay as you go only sell for around £700 on ebay 32gb - 10% fees = 70£ - Paypal fee's £30 = £600 so not much profit if any

He's using another phone on those lines. :D

What if you have 2 orders on 1 line? I have one pending in ATT Premiere and one pending at Apple...both coming 6/24 (in confusion, 2 orders went through tuesday)

Think they'll notice or are both tied to my number? Love to make a few hundred after tuesday's debacle.

i think if they DO ship two and you don't activate one lets say... they might just bill you full price of $599 for the 2nd one ... better bet is if you do get both... activte both and just use the 2nd one you activated

so you can only do this IF you have another line eligible for an upgrade and you don't care about getting another phone thru AT&T in near future

Exactly. I might do it since my mother has been eligible for an upgrade forever, and she is the primary account, so she's re-eligible every year and has been wasting the upgrades.

Upgrade her line. Sell phone for profit. Next year upgrade her line to new
Iphone 5 for me :), sell my Iphone 4. The following year both lines will be eligible for Iphone 6, and I'll keep one and sell the other.

Interesting... I have a "pre-order / reservation" 6th on the list @ RadioShack... maybe I should just pay the full price and flip it for a few hundred dollars profit.

You guys are nuts. The seller can come back a few weeks later and claim he never got the phone and do a chargeback. No seller protection is a HUGE risk. I think they have up to 6 months to decide if they want their money back.

Yeah but don't you have delivery confirmation or something? Of course they could claim it was something else....there has to be a way to protect against that.

Nope... and PayPal almost always sides with the buyer.

A chargeback is an ugly thing and you are out not only the phone, but all the money.

So let me see if I got this right... I can add lines to my family plan w/ data only and get the $199/$299 pricing and then sell the unopened phones and cancel the data package? and since I didn't cancel the lines I won't have to pay ETF? What happens when the ebay customer activates the phone, isn't the phone connected to my account somehow?

Also, can I add a line to my family plan then put sim card from my 3GS so I can keep my phone number? I currently have 3 phones on the family plan and none of them are eligible for an upgrade for a long time. thanks!!

you can't just put your sim in the new one because it takes the micro SIM. You're probably going to have to go into the store to have them change the numbers on the SIMs to match.

total noob, but can anyone advise how to get buyers questions that you have replied too, listed onto the ebay listing?

i am sure i have done this before in the past, but cant find the option!?

thanks
