you can't just put your sim in the new one because it takes the micro SIM. You're probably going to have to go into the store to have them change the numbers on the SIMs to match.

I'm still confused by all of this. So they'll change the sim of my newly added line to a number that is already on my family plan as long as I sign a new 2 year contract on the newly added line?

Also, assuming I'm a brand new at&t customer and I decide to open a family plan with 5 lines, I can choose the cheapest family rate and data packages for all the lines. Then I can sell 4 of the phones and cancel 4 data packages and I would be left with a family account of 5 lines w/ 2 year contract but only 1 active line w/ data package... is this correct? Anyone?

If two subsidized phones are purchased from apple via the same phone number, one will be charged a full price from AT&T right?

This happened to me and I want to keep one and sell the other. I only want to pay the $599 ($199 to apple and $400 to AT&T). Will this automatically happen? Any dangers from selling the second phone on ebay?

Wish I could say for sure. I have a Family Plan with 4 lines. I hope I'll be receiving 2 i4's very soon. Two lines are "upgradeable". I'm gonna use the i4 and my wife will use my 3GS. I plan to sell the second i4. I believe you can order the Data plan and cancel...I plan to "transfer" the new data plan to my wife's line (3GS), although the SIMS don't match. Guess I'll have to do it via an AT&T store.

If you can't even understand whats going on here... im not sure you should be trying to emulate it...

This reminds me of the predator mortgage lenders a few years ago when I lived in CA. People wanted to buy houses so badly as they we're increasing in value on an almost daily basis. Lenders preyed on anybody willing to pay high interest rates (well, low to start and then jump drastically in a couple of years). They were eventually addressed by the gov. Nothing cool about preying on the uninformed.

Ok, I read through all 4 pages. I'm guessing alot of people will be screwed by either eBay or AT&T. First of all, iPhone 4 is NOT confirmed to be unlockable, because it is not confirmed to be JBable. The redsn0w JB is only for 3G/iPod touch 2g, because they don't verify software upgrades with apple. Second, if you purchase multiple iPhones, & cancel the data plan, it counts as terminating the contract and you will be fee'd. (AT&T says you cannot remove the data plan).

The ONLY way you can successfully profit on these iPhone 4s, is if you already have a family plan with multiple iPhones (or another smartphone that uses data) eligabile for upgrades (or not eligable & make less profit with full price).

Also, you people who ordered multiple phones on the same line. Don't cancel, because nothing can go wrong. Best case: you recieve both phones for $200 each, and ATT doesn't find out. Worst case: ATT does find out, and you return it before 30 days.

Why would anyone pay that much for the iPhone 4 when you can purchase as many as you want for the commitment free price of $599 / $699? I mean anyone can walk in and get one (once they have them in stock).

"Once they get them in stock."
Some people just want it badly enough to pay top dollar for it, to have it sooner than the guy down the street.
Or its a scam.

I don't see this as the same at all. The people that got caught up in that mortgage mess were idiots. I hate seeing the banks / lenders being blamed. There was nothing hidden in the contracts signed. "Your mortgage payment is $xx.xx and in 5 years it will be $xx.xx." It wasn't lenders praying on people, it was joe public being greedy, trying to make a buck in a business they know nothing about. "Oh, I just sell the house before the new mortgage adjustment, or I'll just refinance, yadda yadda."

This is simply supply and demand, not preying on uninformed. Do you really think that the people buying these iphones for $800+ don't realize they can't get one at a non-contract fee of $599? It's just about people who have money and want the latest and greatest now, they don't want to wait. I sold PS3s for $1500, xbox 360s for $1000, and countless other items for profits on release day. Simple supply and demand.

You are wrong about getting charged a fee for removing the data plan. It is NOT required.

Really? No sarcasm, but can you tell me how to do it? Do you call them up, or is there some kind of trick, like switching phones? Because on the iPhone order page (http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/packages/packages-details.jsp?q_package=sku3790236), it says "Please note:* A data plan is required for the life of your iPhone service and cannot be removed in the future."

All you have to do is call AT&T and say you replaced your iPhone and give them the IMEI of another phone. A regular flip phone or whatever will do since they do not require a data plan. They will remove the data plan and that's it. If you add another smartphone on though, they still require a data plan. (This is not due to the contract, ALL smartphones are now required to have a data plan)

I've done many upgrade swaps and iPhone replacements.

Ok, thanks.

noob question

i switched from verizon to att for this phone

However, if i can get silly money for this i would sell it

but i assume i would have tons of fees and costs - anyone know what could I expect in this? Also if i cancel after i get phone, dont i have to send it back to ATT?

i guess i am not a good ebay candidate

You guys are nuts. The seller can come back a few weeks later and claim he never got the phone and do a chargeback. No seller protection is a HUGE risk. I think they have up to 6 months to decide if they want their money back.

You don't get 1300 positive fb vs no neg from being a dumb e-bayer. I send every item I ever ship insured with delivery confirmation. That way I know when they received the item. PLUS you don't keep money in your paypal account. That way even if, for an insane crazy reason, PP does side with the "other person" What are they going to take? They can't take money out of your bank account so I'm not very worried.

So I was correct when I said there's no seller protection for international sales?

I want to try this I already pre-ordered for an i4 and will receive one on the 24th, now my girl is eligible for 499$ price we have a family plan. If i bought hers today how could i pre-order the third one at no commitment?

You can't buy two through Apple (successfully). You see when you place your order all it does is CHECK eligibility it doesn't actually process it, this means everyone who bought an iPhone subsidized can go on the AT&T website and check their upgrade eligibility and they are still eligible for a subsidized phone. Before the phones ship out the orders are actually processed and your account is updated -- so whichever phone gets processed first will make it through and the next you will get an e-mail saying there was a problem with your order, please contact blah blah.

1. I offered to unlock
2. They were both foreign. One denmark, one mexico

can you tell me what shipping service you used? This is my first time doing this, and i have to ship it to Norway from the UK. Just checked TNT's site and got this...

9:00 EXPRESS 166.49GBP
10:00 EXPRESS 155.49GBP
12:00 EXPRESS 138.99GBP
GLOBAL EXPRESSPRIORITY 119.99GBP
GLOBAL EXPRESS 94.99GBP
12:00 ECONOMY EXPRESS 183.57GBP
ECONOMY EXPRESS 141.17GBP

is that the kind of cost you were charging for shipping???

also my buyer has asked i mark it as a gift, i take it i should say no.

thanks in advance.

I've heard this before from self proclaimed "smart" e-bayers. Famous last words.

All I can say is good luck and hope it works out for you.

To people selling internationally, are you unlocking for them?
From what I understand, you'll have to at least get past the activation screen using AT&T sim once you get it so they can JB, you can't sell it without turning it on because they won't be able to get past that screen without an AT&T sim.
Anyone know the best instructions for unlocking IOS4?
Any help is appreciated.

Nope. My upgrade status on ATT changed and now says it's eligible for an upgrade on 11/11 ...
