I checked my available pricing using the Upgrade Calculator found on Apple's website. The pricing is nuts!
Why do you think it's nuts? Basically, it's showing a $250 carrier subsidy difference for the handset before and after your eligibility date.

It will be interesting to see how Apple prices non-subsidized (full retail) handsets on Friday. I would be thrilled if the 64MB model was $649 unsubsidized, but I figure the chances of that are almost non-existent.

Should I upgrade my 3GS?

I have a 3GS and have been on contract since Dec 2009. My question is, should I upgrade to the 4S thereby ensuring I stay on the S cycle phones or should I hold out and wait for the iPhone 5 and the inevitable bugs that the single digit releases have had but get a pretty new phone?

I really wanted to switch providers this year (I want to actually use the phone and message functions for what they were intended for rather than having to switch back and forth between flight mode incessantly to get service back on my ****** network)

I've invested way too much money buying apps and books on my 3GS to switch to a different phone and start from scratch so... should I hold out with my spotty reception for 8-12 more months or should I bite the bullet and switch now? What do you guys think?

Provider

Contract is up with AT&T (grandfathered in with unlimited data).

So, AT&T, Verizon or Sprint?

Thoughts?

The real money for them is in Apps.

30% cut
This is patently false.

In Apple's SEC filings, they report iPhone handset (hardware) unit sales. If App Store revenue was so high, they would be obligated to separate that out as a discrete business unit because it would have significant impact on Apple's overall business model.

Apple makes the vast majority of their revenue selling hardware.

If you want to claim that Apple's "real money is in Apps", please quote where one can find this in Apple's SEC filings.

I'll spare you the MB vs GB joke ...

As far as I've seen the 16GB will be $649, 32 at $749 and 64 at $849

These prices are gotten from TUAW and apparently were posted by Verizon

So lets say that I am not available for an upgrade, can I still pre order from apples website or do I have to be available for an upgrade?

Thanks

You want me to publish figures that Apple is going out of there way to hide?

I'm to lazy to look for them , but it's true

Well, because it's nuts.

I'm happy to re-up on another 2 year contract, but the pricing needs to be realistic.

Windows Phone 7.5 Mango is looking pretty sweet right about now

I think Apple is working overtime to have a version of iOS to counter Windows 8 when it hits phones and tablets next year. They are running scared since they will have real competition and have nothing to sue Microsoft over.

Really? Next to your floppy disks?

As soon as someone will stream me whatever I want in 1080p and not get killed by my ISP, you'll have the point you think you do. Until then, enjoy your highly compressed 720p and keep convincing yourself it's good enough. Cognitive dissonance will make you happy. :)

Cool... no need for you to post any more of your negative bs here. Run on over to the Win 7 forum and scream how crappy the 4s is there, they will agree with you. FFS make the move and be happy. No one is making you buy the 4s.

What's not realistic about this? YOU signed a 2 year contract. Why should they let you upgrade early? I pay $170 a month for my 2 iPhones, that is why I get to uprade every year. How much do you spend with ATT? Well unless it's any where near what I pay suck it up and pay the extra $250 or wait until you are eligible. Sucks to be you but it in no way makes it unrealistic.

Yes, please do publish them.

I"m an AAPL shareholder and I'd love to see how one particular MacRumors forum participant has totally deconstructed their entire business model.

As a matter of fact, I'll e-mail your complete analysis to Tim Cook. I'm sure he'd love to see it. Hell, I'll cc Steve Ballmer, Meg Whitman and Michael Dell as well.
