Will Apple offer pre-order & sale of the unlocked & unsubsidized iPhone 4S at the same time as those that required a 2 year carrier contract?

I asking because I'm thinking of buying one for use on my existing T-Mobile line.

Why upgrade? In fact, why be in a hurry to upgrade when you have an iphone 4?

http://www.smh.com.au/technology/te...-mans-monologue-of-misery-20110930-1l0hg.html

Reasons for iPhone 4 owners to upgrade:

1) Some AT&T iPhone 4 owners (primary line) may become eligible for the upgrade price so why not have the latest?

2) Just like the 3GS, the 4S is a significant upgrade internally with the A5, improved graphics and much improved camera. The Siri voice assistant is also neat (I think).

3) Some people need that 64GB (59GB) capacity that has finally become available.

4) They like the design of the 4/4S and want the best version of that design.

Reasons for iPhone 3G/3GS owners to upgrade:

1) Just one reason, they're way overdue for the upgrade.

Reasons for people who never owned an iPhone to get one:

1) They're sick and tired of using their Android phones.

or

1) They're sick and tired of using a 5 year old feature phone and want a smooth capacity transition from their 64GB iPod Touch (3rd gen) with about 28GB free to a new 64GB iPhone 4S (my reason).

"with iCloud, you don't have to do anything, it just works"....
Um.. You have to pay $100 a year to use it (more for me as Im in Australia and they double charge us)..

I think you're mixing up the upcoming iCloud with the no-longer available MobileMe service. iCloud is free, the only option to charge is for iTunes match, which is only $25/year in the US.

There will be no lines this time and sales and numbers purchased will be low. Not much here really. Apple just caught up to the competition only to be passed by within a few weeks and I'm a fan boy saying this.

I think this upgrade sucks, but they will sell boatloads of this phone.

Sadly, this is the Entitlement Generation that we live in.

:(

Yes, when you consider the serious turmoil on this planet, it's laughable the hysteria surrounding the launch of a new phone.

It's a phone people...... buy it, don't buy, and get on with your lives.

My mom was nice enough to give me her upgrade :D Thing is, I have to go to a Verizon store to buy my iPhone 4S with the upgrade. I won't be able to experience the excitement of the apple store. :(

Seriously? What were people expecting in a new phone? I'm excited and I have a 4.
Is it a bigger screen? Really? That is why they make an iPad. The iPhone 4 is a fantastic form factor. You want a phone to be portable. I see these androids with bigger screens and they are huge phones.
Tapered edges? Really? That will stop me from getting a dual core processor, better camera, and Siri. Damn, if only it had tapered edges!
4G? It's only in a fraction of the markets. Do people ever roam? Apple showed the new speeds are on par with 4G. Test the 4s next to your buddies 4g android and see if it's much of a difference.
Give it a try before making judgement. I'm excited! I wasn't that excited about the 3Gs but it was a huge improvement.

You just don't screw over your apple fans who wait for 14 months, and sell them a half ass iPhone 4 to make them buy the same phone but better insides...

How dare you re-name voice recognition or 'Find my friends" to be your own revolutionised idea. Keynote really went ridiculous from when they related the iPhone 4 being more used than the canon 7D... I just can't continue with apple anymore, they are below the expected grade. Apple fan for 6 years, now calling it quits. Going with a FREE, HIGH TECH - RELIABLE source such as the new nexus coming.. or samsung galaxy II for half the price with a bigger screen and all the features.

Nice entitlement you got there.

See ya.

Anyone have the answer as to if you pre-order it the 7th if you'll get it on the 14th guaranteed? Or if I want it that bad the first day I should just go to the store.

pre-ordered last year iphone 4 and got it the day before launch ;)
they won't guarantee day of but if the past says anything...

Not that I wish them ill...but I think it would be a refreshing reminder for Apple to NOT have a sell out hit. Im beginning to feel like theyre not pushing innovation and are resting on laurels/brand value.

I'm seriously thinking about replacing my dumbphone/iPod touch/Canon point-and-shoot digicam combo with the iPhone 4S.

I'm interested at seeing how Apple will price unsubsidized factory-unlocked iPhone 4S models.

But this is suggesting that there is a NEED to upgrade. Is Sprint the only other option? Is the upgrade significant enough to mean an upgrade every year?

The problem is that the demand is there because people are delusional. Believing that this will a) make them happy b) make them more productive c) improve their image.

The iPhone 4, even the iPhone 3gs are perfectly capable smart phones on current software. But, people believe that software releases mean a need to upgrade to get the optimal smart phone experience.

I have an iphone. Actually I have lots of technology. But, think that these things need to be kept in context.

The reasons you highlighted above really didnt need to be said as they are obvious reasons as to why someone would upgrade, if they are so inclined to throw away their money for no reason.

Try to do less to promote massive consumption as it is very destructive to the world. Put your money on your health, family, friends, charity.

I dont deny that I have done this myself. But seriously, we all need a reality check.

An iPhone 4s wont get you laid or promoted at work.

AT&T charges a $250 premium to upgrade early so it's actually cheaper (for me at least) to pay the prorated Early Termination Fee than wait until Feb 19th when I'm actually eligible for an upgrade. Verizon, here I come!

Reasons for people who never owned an iPhone to get one:

1) They're sick and tired of using their Android phones.

We're past and current iPhone owners, and I also tried a couple of Android devices and haven't been satisfied. So while we're not "people who never owned an iPhone", I'm _definitely_ sick of the inconsistent experience with my Android phones. :)

I do not quite understand how much I pay for upgrade to iPhone 4S. When I check to see if I'm elegible to upgrade on my iPhone, I get "As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee." Also, when I used the upgrade eligible tool provided from att.com, it says that I qualify for the following iPhone pricing: iPhone 4S: 16GB- $199, 32GB- $299, 64GB- $399. So, I wanted to know, do I just pay the $18 upgrade fee or do I have to pay the fee along with the cost of the iPhone 4S that I am upgrading to?

You have to pay the subsidized price of the phone (say, $199) plus an $18 fee.

RIGHT with you there, and it would be very timely right now, perhaps convenient that they chose to go ho humm today. Unfortunately I just don't see it happening, but will do what I can.

What I'm wondering, is since I'm a AT&T employee, I know I'm not allowed to purchase from any of our stores until AT&T says we can. Which means I'll be heading down to the Apple store. My question I guess would be if Apple stores take cash or is it going to be a strictly credit/debit card affair? If so I might as well go ahead and pre-order the phone online and get it day one.

Does AT&T not allow employees to buy on launch day? That kind of sucks.

I don't see why Apple wouldn't take cash at the store. Best call to be sure.

I always pre-order and get it delivered to me. Just so much easier.

----------

Contract is up with AT&T (grandfathered in with unlimited data).

So, AT&T, Verizon or Sprint?

Thoughts?

Well, do you want to keep unlimited data? If so, your choice is AT&T, unless Sprint is going to keep unlimited data.

I gave the iPhone 4 to my wife (her phone broke), and AT&T offered me an early upgrade for any non-Apple phone on one line (I thought that sounded funny, but no matter).
I got the HTC Inspire...was wowed for the first hour or so. Horrible battery life, a poltergeist touch screen (barely touch it and you're calling your least favorite relative/coworker), and ho hum Android UI with tacky styles.
Luckily, the iP4 line is up for an upgrade...I'm jumping ship and swimming back home to iOS. Ahhhhhhhhhh

Anyways, I came to it with NO bias and hoping to experience something special/refreshing. I was heartily disappointed.
