Well I've got a Genius Bar appointment coming up in a few hours here so wish me luck guys. I'm NOT leaving and I repeat NOT leaving till I get a 4S with a cool blue hue screen! We all paid a hell of a lot of money for our phones so why settle for less? I'm sorry but I work hard for my hard earned money and this is unacceptable.

You're not guaranteed a specific type of screen and neither one is "less" than the other. I'd think the employees would be well within their right to simply not sell you one whether you leave or not.

Lol, No. It's not just a "phone"

Its a business tool, medical device for some people, web, iPod, Phone, and so much more.

Also, its real money, made by us hard working people. When the displays at the Apple store have blue tinted displays, then my brand new phone better have a blue tinted display.

My research skills must be lacking. Can you please show me some official documentation stating that the the phones "should" have a blue tinted display. I'd love to see it.

Funny. I never implied or stated that. I said at the Apple stores, the displays have blue tinted screens. Why should my brand new one have a yellow tinted display then? It shouldn't. It should be blue tinted like the displays. Because Apple is using the display phones to get people to buy them.

My brand new in box better look just like the display.

Edit-Apple display models look exactly like the right phone. My new one looks like the left.

The phone on the right is exactly what Apple advertises. So why should my NEW phone that I bought, expecting it to look like the displays, look like this phone on the left? It shouldn't.

If the difference is that dramatic, I agree it shouldn't look like that. When Apple store replaced my cracked iPhone 4 the replacement had a slightly warmer tone than my original. Certainly nothing nearly that dramatic and not at all something I'd consider a defect or even grounds for replacement.

Def. agree. I'm not sure if the OP is talking about warm or yellow screens. Warm screens are fine with me, my last replacement 4 was like that.

Its my preference, if you don't like it then you can hang on to your yellow hue 4S but I'm not.

So I stopped by Apple and after looking at two replacement phones they both had the same god damn yellow hue... I basically figured that the other 4S would have the same yellow hue so I walked out with my current 4S. I'll give it another week or so before trying again.

Of course the reps there gave me the same story telling me it's the screen glue this and he screen life that. I made he reps walk with me to view the 4S on display since they refused to believe there was an issue! Wtf do they think I'm blind or something here? After that they basically said they're certain the rest of the 4S in stock probably look the same so I gave up. I'm pretty pissed off and disappointed at this point, I'm hopin the next batch of 4S has the screen that I want because I will not settle for this.

My replacement 4S was so piss yellow that I sent it back as it had more things I hated than my original which was a saint in comparison lol

I really don't understand how this is an issue. Who said, that blue is better than green or yellow? And I agree with some of the other posters. People exchange their phones once a week, just because of the screen tint, whilst some have to wait for the phone, which they just want to use in the way it was intended to, rather than sitting there staring at it and looking for flaws.

By the way, I had mine for a month now and my wife had hers for about 10 days. When she just got hers, I compared the screens and mine seemed to have warmer whites. I then noticed yesterday, that my screen became much cooler than hers. It's as if the tint has faded. Not that I care, but just wanted to share this info. Who knows, it might happen to your phone as well. Should have taken pictures before and after, but had no idea this would happen :)

Still don't understand why people think it's an issue. If I worked at a genius bar, I'd just be telling anyone with screen tint enquiries to **** off. Sorry, but, no where does it say that yellow tint is wrong. For crying out loud, it's not even yellow. Just warmer colours.

are you serious, thats a awesome screen mine is the same and i am very happy with it.

Look guys it's my preference and if you don't agree or like it then that's fine. Its like telling me "Hey we both have a Dodge Charger but yours has a 6.1L Hemi V8 while I have the 3.5L V6 but it's ok because we both have a Charger so why complain?" - see my point there? I paid for the damn thing so I want the phone that I want, end of story.

It's not the same thing beucase the V8 engine is a selectable option you pay more for. The screen isn't.

Build Location?

Ok, compared to my co-workers iPhone 4S his has a blue hue while mine has a slightly yellow hue (seems to be getting better?). I checked where mine was made and here's what I dug up.

Using this site I was able to check where my iPhone 4S was made http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html:

The main differences are in bold above, I'm thinking the different factory is the cause here but again I could be wrong.

Due to BatteryGate, as confirmed by the local genius in our Apple store, I'm on my third iPhone 4S. The first one was cool, the second two were strikingly yellow. Yet in time, (about 10 days) they did start to fade a bit and look much better. Still not up to the standard of many of my other smartphones, much less Apple's normally terrific standard.

When the current model was a 3GS, I bought one for each of my family members (4) and every one of those was very, very nice. In fact the product as a whole was better in terms of quality and lack of problems as compared to what I have experienced with the iPhones 4 & 4S.

I sure hope that Apple can find it's way back on track, and that the next new model is up to their normal exemplary standard.

Hi,
This theory is not working. According to this site, mine was produced in (China, Chengdu - Foxconn) and it has a yellowish/warm screen. My girlfriend's white phone, from the same factory - nice, blue cold color....

Sorry, but you're wrong wrong wrong!
It has nothing to do with the screen hue/tint.
I've had 3 iphone 4S's and all of them were manufactured by the C39: one of them had a very very cool blue tint, another one had a warm tint but with pop-up colors, and the last one had very dark red/blue hue, which looked kind of dark yellow compared to the others.
These factories do not produce screen panels, they just assemble everything together and there's no way with the iPhone you can tell where those panels are manufactured.

Folks, I'm guessing the blue/yellow screen issue is determined by who manufactured the screen inside your individual iPhone. If I recall, Apple uses two manufacturers for its LCDs: LG and Samsung (I vaguely remember reading that they were adding a 3rd, but I might be making that up). Given that Apple has had repeated problems with LG screens (mainly in the iPad), and the fact that Samsung's screens are generally acknowledged to be among the best out there, I'd be willing to guess that those with a yellow/poor contrast/dull colors screen have an LG screen. Those with the brighter/blue screens are probably from Samsung. Looking up the factory your phone came from won't do you any good, since that's simply where the phone was assembled.

Unfortunately for all of us, I believe that LG provides something like 70% of the iPhone LCDs, since Apple is trying to rely on Samsung as little as possible. That means your odds of getting one with a Samsung display are not particularly good.

Of course, this is all just conjecture. I have absolutely no proof to back up any of this...

With the iPhone 4S it's not the case anymore.
As some experts claim (Anandtech, for instance), Apple has approved way more than 2 screen manufacturers this time around, thus the quality of the screen has gone down.

Well, there you go. If they've gone beyond 2 manufacturers now, then it's not surprising that quality control issues are seeping in. I doubt there is any way to figure out who made the screen in your phone without physically taking it apart though.

I'm very happy with my screen.
My 4S looks to have netural coloring, perhaps a bit to the blue end. My brother was right beside me as I opened the box when I received it, and to him it looked like it had a bit of a yellow tint; to me it looked almost bluish...
Then I compared it to my 3GS which I always thought was normal and 'properly bluish', and side by side, at first glance, the 3gs seemed to be too purple in comparison and have worse contrast. So of course I was very happy that I had a new phone w/ screen that appeared better than what I was used to :)
It's serial number says it's from the "C3" factory, if anyone wanted to know.

Oddly enough, when I turn the brightness down very low while under natural light coming in from the window, it does look suddenly brown/yellow, til I move it up to about 25% and it abruptedly changes to 'normal', not gradually, but actually just suddenly that tint is gone. I don't really notice it in a dark room with the brightness down though. Seeing as I would normally want it higher than this in natural light, I don't care one bit, but my 3GS doesn't do this at all. Just curious little details, if anyone cares.

Anyway, just interesting how one person thought it was yellow while I find it bluish if anything. And when I compare to pictures people are posting, it's nothing even remotely like the yellow they are complaining about.
My brother is also color blind but to greens/browns....so it seems even more contradictory that he wouldn't see the blue tint or hue, of all possible colours lolol
